Interesting E-Stop on Grand Fiesta Tour tonight

I was at EPCOT tonight with DH and kiddos; around 7:40 or so we decided to hit Grand Fiesta Tour before heading to Nemo. We boarded our boat and were moving along looking for Donald. Then as we entered the room with the fiesta going on the spiel came on saying that the ride was experiencing technical difficulties and a cast member would be with us shortly. So my DH and I look at each other and OK this should be interesting. The boats start to slow down to almost to a stop. We were just barely moving. We could see the people ahead of us using their hands to move the boat forward; although the kept asking people to stay seated and keep their hands in the boat. The spiel kept repeating and we very slowly made it to the end. By then they had turned the sound off. After a little while a voice came over the speakers to say that the boats would be restarting and they would be recycling the boats or something like that. As we passed the map we noticed that someone had left trash (2 white left over Styrofoam containers) on the ledge. When we got off the boat there was a CM apologizing for the delay. I said it was OK it was the 2nd ride that broke down on us tonight (Universe of Energy had technical difficulties too). She told us that it was not a ride issue but it was a guest  that had stopped the right. :veryconfu As we exited and went in to the shopping area; we could see that upper level manager were speaking to a group of men. One of the men was asking in a very loud voice what he did wrong. Then a security guard showed up. My oldest wanted to do a mask so we hung out for a little while. The managers that were with this guest stepped in to the Kidcot Area and called someone. Then when we came out of the Kidcot Station there was a Orange County Sheriff there now. We don't know what happened for sure. But I imagine that the guest were drunk and did something stupid to trip the e-stop. We ended up leaving the pavilion the same time as the guy, his friends, security and the sheriff. It looked like they were escorting him towards the exit. So who knows what happened from there. It was very interesting!

We rode in a boat an Splash Mountain at DL a couple of years ago and the teens in the front of the boat thought it would be fun to reach out to the ledge and stop the boats. They held up about 5 bots behind us until the spiel came on and we had to evac.

its a shame how kids my age are nasty enough to do that. they are the people that give people my age a bad rep. But i know how annoying it is when the ride stops bc of something mean done by a guest. like one time, i was on splash mt. when they said they had to stop the ride because a guest stood up in the ride... i cant get why somebody would do that????

They were probably taking him out of epcot and escorting him to MK. I heard that "the punished" are forced to sevre eternity in IASW as dolls. :lookaroun

...but you didn't hear that from me. :lookaroun

Ha ha ha. i saw that episode of family guy too.
They either have to be in IASW or do a Christmas movie with Tim Allan.

Wow...very interesting. I wonder what they really did? It's a shame how some people have to ruin things for others and be jerks. Also to note, how stupid is it to get drunk in a public park?? If not for what they did on the ride they should have been excorted out for public drunkeness...save it for PI or the resort!!

Hmm, I wonder what exactly they did to trigger an e-stop, do you simply just have to reach outside of the boat for that to happen?

Give it a test next time you're there and watch the magic happen.

Not sure. If it does, it must be somewhere where guests can touch the sets. Right?

The boat rides at WDW have a pretty intricate intrustion detection system, which, across the property, can include cameras, pressure-sensitive-mats, infrared beams, and other methods. I know there's IR beams in Gran Fiesta, some quite close to the scenes where even an arm fully extended out will trip it and cause an e-stop.

Moral of the story: act your age, people!

In some scenes yes...

For example, near the end in the market place scene you will pass by 3 video screens with balloons on your left. Take a look at the wall at the right of the last screen, and you can see a hole in the wall with a little green light. That's and IR beam emitter - you break that beam and it will trigger a show stop (not an e-stop).

Again, after you exit that tunnel and before you come to the stage on the left - there is a staircase on your right. At the bottom of the stairs there is another IR beam, that if broken will stop the ride (cockroaches have a bad reputation for doing this).

And finally, at the end of the ride, with the map of mexico on your left, take a look at the landing on your right. Those are pressure mats - which when stepped on will stop the ride.

We had a situation last year where the ride show stopped and the boats where piling up at unload, guests started getting out of the boats onto the mats thus stopping any progress we made at restarting the ride. They didn't realize (or didn't care) that if they continued to step on the mats, we COULDN'T restart the ride.

Sigh...

I wonder if they were escorted out because they left the trash at the 'map' area...? :veryconfu

Granted, that sounds like it would be enough to trigger a stop, but is it enough to get kicked out for? Maybe it wasn't even their trash. I wish we knew what they'd done!

Trash isn't enough to trigger a pressure map - if it was, rides would be going down all over property all the time...

It usually takes the managers a little while to get to a pavilion too - and it would depend on the severity of the show stop, or the zone in which it occured. If they had to go there everytime an IR was tripped, they would never leave.

Maybe they tried to get out, or was creating a scene with the cast members there. In anycase, i would say intoxicated, or just behavor not becoming in a family park.

dangerous?

we don't know what they did, so it's hard to tell whether it was dangerous or not. not likely it was dangerous unless they jumped out of the boat into the canal in front of oncoming boats.

but it is in Disney's best interest (for legal and insurance reasons) to swiftly and aggressively handle *any* breach of the safety rules with immediate ejection from the park. guests actually enter into a contract that says they will not break these rules when they buy their ticket. When they do Disney can do whatever they want to get them out.

if Disney didn't act on every single incident, regardless of how seemingly minor it is, people would try bigger and more daring (and more stupid) things.

Are there any height I-Beams on any of the "boat" rides, so if people are standing, the ride stops? i have see a few people stand up for stupid reasons before, i just wondered if you stand up too long, the ride stops.
