Instead of a free admission on your b-day...

I was at Magic Kingdom on 1/1 and noticed that Philharmagic now has a separate FP machine for Birthday FP users. This machine was open even while the other FP machines were closed.

Here's a question I haven't seen answered before... what if you have a Seasonal AP and the birthday falls on a blackout date? Can you still opt for the gift card to spend at Downtown Disney? Technically, you're still an AP holder after all. Love's brother's birthday will fall just before the return from Summer blackout. He's not going to want to go by himself that day and we're certainly not going to pay for days when we're all already Passholders. So how will that work?

I'm guessing since the Seasonal isn't valid for entry on his B-day, he will only have the option of a park admission. The alternative gifts are only available to people who already have a valid AP, Seasonal AP or multi-day ticket for their B-day.

According the the legal information you can only get the other birthday options if you have an annual pass, season pass, or a previously purchased multi-day ticket. At least that's how I read it. I doubt Disney will accept a comp ticket otherwise they'd be giving a lot of money out. ($75 times 55,000 cast members)

Have I ever told you I love it when you are right?

Can haz Link?

(Not arguing, I've just been looking for the legal blahdeblah saying you that you have to show an AP or other form of Ticket in order to choose the other options.)

The more I read about this promotion, the more annoyed I get at the way it works. For example, my birthday falls on a Tuesday this year, there's no way my work is going to let me off for the three days to go to Disney on my birthday although I'd more than like to go one of those weekends.

My wife's birthday is on a Friday, we'd be more than willing to drive down that Friday afternoon, pick up her ticket on Friday and go on Saturday (requiring me to buy a ticket and pay a ton of money in the park in addition to getting a hotel room) but if she has to use it on Friday its not worth our time since we won't be getting there till about 4 on Friday afternoon.

This promo would work a lot better if they'd let you use it within 7 days of your birthday. It seems like since we're unlucky enough to have our birthdays fall on a weekday this year that we can't really take advantage of this. Sucks to be us, guess our birthday isn't worth celebrating.

From the FAQ page: You may use the Birthday Fun Card towards the purchase of select merchandise items at participating merchandise locations owned and operated by the owners of the Walt Disney World® and Disneyland® Resorts. The Birthday Fun Card may also be used for other select purchases including Disney's PhotoPass® on–site services and tour experiences.

If it can be used toward tours, how does this work? I thought tours had to be prepaid when booked?

And I also don't like the fact that it can't be used toward food and has to be used only on your birthday instead of spread out through your trip.

My Dad had to show his AP to get the Fun Card.

Ah ha, they must have got wise on their loopholes since they announced the hoopla.

Curious though, what if you don't have a AP? What if you already have tickets? I know they said that's ok, but I'm just wondering what the official Accepted Ticket Mediums are...Interesting. curiouser and curiouser...

I think what you're saying makes sense, but I don't think Disney sees it that. IMO, they think that if you can't make it on the date of your birthday, they aren't losing money by not letting you in/giving you $75 to spend/giving you a free ticket. Your logic with the hotel rooms and family, etc. makes perfect sense, but maybe Disney thinks that everyone is going to celebrate their birthday alone

I'm fairly certain that Disney thinks that very few people are celebrating alone. It's pretty obviously a nefarious plot to get people to come to the parks, spend money on everyone else's admission, lodgings and well... you can't go just one day...

Oh well, falling for nefarious plots has never felt so exciting before. :D I'm counting the days until I am taken advantage of.

but here's my point. It worked at first. Our money is tight right now, but we figured with my wife's birthday being on a Friday that we could drive down after I get out of work Friday afternoon (we live about 5 hours away) and pick up her ticket and stay at a disney resort Friday and Saturday night. Then Saturday we'd go and I'd buy a ticket for myself that day. Then head home on Sunday.

Now I see she has to use the ticket on her birthday. My work is not going to let me off both Thursday and Friday so that is out the window. They just lost the money from my park ticket and all the money we would have spent in the park and at the hotel those two days.

I think one of the options is a One Day MYW ticket to use from your birthday now til your next one, You have to have a multiday pass, or AP, etc. to get the optional selections.

If you come down on that friday, then you could use it on saturday.

The promotion is FREE ADMISSION ON YOUR BIRTHDAY... Sorry if it doesnt work out, im sure you wont be the only one it doesnt work out for.......

Also, according to the rules for Birthday Fun Cards, you cannot use it DTD. They list just about all of the shops and restaurants that it cannot be used at.
It can be used at WDW for select merchandice at partisipating locations. That means, not all things at all places, to me.....

Untrue. They list the non Disney owned locations. Which means you could still easily use it at Once Upon A Toy, The Art of Disney, Disney's Days of Christmas, Disney's Pin Traders, and the others that are owned by Disney. PLENTY of shopping opportunity in DTD.

Does anyone yet have a definite answer to where the birthday card CAN be used and what exactly it can be used for? That word "select" leaves alot of room for interpretation.

My Dad used his birthday fun card at the shops on Main Street. We used it and bought some Disney pins, a hat, Wall*E on DVD, and one of those new Disney reusable tote bags. For my birthday I plan on getting the card and adding to my pin collection.
