I'm going to throw out some past So, You Want to be an Imagineer projects that
@MANEATINGWREATH wanted to include in a side competition this year but didn't have the time to fully realize. None of these are going to be projects in Season 14 in 2018.
-Create an original dark ride for Disneyland's Critter Country. (This is a fun one that really stretches your creativity. The goal of this project is to get Disney back to its storytelling roots of not relying on an IP to have memorable theme park characters.)
-Create a land based around the works of Hayao Miyazaki (Certainly more on the "niche" side of things, but Miyazaki's films contain such a ridiculous amount of stuff that would work incredibly well in a theme park that a lot can be done with this project. You've got all kinds of supernatural creatures, crazy elaborate settings like the Spirited Away bathhouse, a motif of "flying machines" that runs throughout his movies. It really is a theme park environment waiting to happen!)
-Create an original Batman E-Ticket/Create a Christopher Nolan inspired "Gotham City" in place of Marvel at Islands of Adventure (These two came back to back in seasons nine and ten and both played incredibly well. The original Batman E Ticket is much more blue sky and specifically doesn't focus on what park the attraction would be going into. Batman is such a rich character with great villains and an extremely cinematic setting...As much as I love the Batman: The Ride coasters the character deserves something far more ambitious in the theme park landscape.
The Nolan Dark Knight land for Islands of Adventure is the complete inverse of that. Here the challenge is to convert stuff that's already there into a Batman theme. The big draw of creating the E Ticket is that you get to conceptually plan out a new villain to get the Nolan treatment including casting an actor for its likeness. The SYWTBAI version cast Timothy Spall as the Mad Hatter which worked out incredibly well.)
Create an original dark ride for Knott's Berry Farm (This was done before Voyage to the Iron Reef was announced so the original was much more blue sky. This version would be a hypothetical "What If" replacement for Kingdom of the Dinosaurs if Iron Reef was never a thing. I just visited Knott's for the first time last week and let me tell you I was absolutely blown away by it. It's easily one of my all time favorite parks and I think creating a modern dark ride for it would be a really fun, unique challenge and a break from designing for Disney proper...)
Create a hypothetical "Disney/Universal Studios" theme park (This project is really ambitious but easily one of the most memorable in the game's history. It's the ultimate "what if" scenario...What if Disney and Universal...the two giants of the theme park industry...joined forces for a mega theme park that used both of the companies IPs. Definitely works better as a late game project but there's just so many different areas you can go with this concept.)
