Increased OCSO Presence?

We took the bus to DS from POFQ because the line for the boats was so long. Getting off at the DS bus station, we walked right into the shopping area. No security check. Yet when we take the boat, the security check is still there.

The whole country has lost law and order so I'm all for restoring it with more people willing to drop a hammer when nonsense ensues.

Violence should not be tolerated and if it happens needs to be met with equal and greater force if necessary.

People have been emboldened to act like fools because of a lack of serious consequences. That CANNOT happen at Disney. It needs to be absolutely safe for kids and families to have fun. If there is a safety concern at Disney, I don't think the company could tolerate another problem very well.

honestly a lot has changed in the past years and things has at times in this world we live in gotten out of hand. I know when Police are around doing their job is when I feel safe now adays. Also, if security or undercover police are in the parks doing their jobs is even better. Security or Police Officers do not distract me and only makes me feel safe and relax. Honestly there were probably undercover security or police in the parks for the times I was there. Never really thought about it until this thread. The only time I remember a heavy security presence was in November after 911. Was it a hassle that we had to be checked and my wife's purse checked, yes. But these security guards/officers were preventing people of wrong doings from entering the parks with a weapon. Honestly Disney wants you to come into the parks and have fun. Isn't this the reason that we go. Extra security is not a bad thing and if this means that I am safe and a lot more secure the better. I know people get into fights in WDW and seen the video's and just can't believe what I am seeing. Honestly, I carry myself in a fun manor and if I accidently bumped into somebody, I offer apologies and if I did cause them to spill their drink I would right from the start offer to get them a new one. I do behave and have fun and do be mindful of others. Accidents do happen and it's always better to do the right things instead of just going about your business and seem like you do not care about others.

I just got back from a 2 week trip. Yes, I noticed more police presence. NO, it did not "ruin" anything for me. I saw them, and then I moved on. I have learned to not let things like this affect my life. I CHOOSE how to feel and how things around me affect me. And it is so easy to just notice them, and then remove them from your mind and focus on having a good time. Things like this can't ruin anything unless you allow it to. And I rather that they are there if needed than the alternative.

It can be. There is certainly a limit where you would think it’s too much, that line is just a little different for you and me.

If I was in charge of Disney the procedures would actually be pretty similar, it would just look and feel very different.

The same can be said for all negatives at WDW. Higher priced food, genie+ causing long standby lines, peeling paint, broken effects.

I just got back from WDW a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time!!! But as a proud graduate of the Disney Institute (proudly wears mouse ears! :p ) I will of course notice where things can be improved.

For the first time in a very long time, today not only did I see OCSO on property, I also saw Lake County Deputies and FHP Troopers at Disney Springs as well as FHP squad cars shooting radar on hotel plaza blvd.
Lake County? out of their jurisdiction

Yes, I'm very confused about this apparent gap in security checks. There is none if you've taken a bus from a resort to DS. I know they've got people watching, but no scanners or anything.

If a Lake county deputy has a warrant from a judge to arrest the bad guy they can go to another county to compete the job to get the person.

Departments frequently will provide additional resources to neighboring jurisdictions when needed. (Staffing shortages, large events, etc.)

Of course they don't do it for free. OCSD, FHP, and other agencies providing security and traffic control for Disney properties charge Disney for their services.

Even that abandoned Ford Explorer Police Cruiser at the entrance to the MK probably nets the OCSD a couple of hundred a day just for being parked there.

Has this recently changed? There was a security checkpoint coming off buses in May of last year.

Definitely was not there a few months ago, it may come and go depending on the season? Definitely weird gap, they must have some other way of checking things out in this instance.

I’ve been to WDW 3 times since it reopened and have not seen a full check at this location on any of the visits. But security is definitely present and I’ve almost always seen a dog (and good chance a dog was there everytime and I just didn’t notice).

Most recently was like 3 weeks ago.

I think that I misinterpreted previous posts at the time and believed that you meant that we would be better without security. No security is an extreme, but I can agree that security is not the end all be all for all situations.

I feel safe walking to my car at Disney because of the security in the parking lots, but I certainly feel safer in the parks. Personally, I think that the officers and security make my experience more magical because I feel safe at all times. Granted, I was not alive before our country turned to increased security, so I suppose cannot speak to the point very well.

To agree with you on one point, there are a few bad apples at Disneys security checkpoint at the entrance. It was always the same person (whom I eventually reported), but I would always walk “too fast”, “too slow”, “too close”, or “too far” from someone. He would claim that it ”broke” the scanner, which I laughed at the first time and he did not like my response (I thought it was a joke because walking too far away from someone will clearly not break the scanner). I’ve never seen him again recently, but I do think there are a few bad apples that just want to assert their “authority”. Still, I think overall the security is a benefit.
They’re frustrated guys who couldn’t make it at the police academy…kinda like some of the rent-a-cops you saw at the mall…

The police are there to keep you safe, it is NOT at all the same thing as a neglected park or high prices. Come on, at least have it make sense.

I’m Sorry, that’s not what I meant. I was replying to someone who said / implied that a negative interaction with Disney security should only bother you if you let it.

Further up I had said if I was in charge of Disney the actual security would be very similar, it would just look and feel very different and be less obvious and more welcoming.
