Improving Tiki Birds

To give you good news, the sound system has been reworked. The 1971 system still has its flaws, but, generally, it's much improved. Audience reception has been exceedingly high . . . but, I'm sorry to hear about your experience. There are always families who don't enjoy the show, but it's always been like this. . . natural. Just like I don't like some popular rides.

Sadly, Splash Mountain and BTMR are given much more care over bears. Splash has been in miserable condition recently, which makes me wonder about that statement some CMS told me. It may just be a general Frontierland/WDW management thing.

Griz, I may be mistaken, but I thought that you told me sometime last year that the CBJ soundtrack had been updated (technologically) and sounded clear.

All I think it would need, anyway, would be to be digitally remastered, like many classic albums are. And in the mastering, they would be able to clean up muddy sound and make sounds more clearly directed. This should not be a big issue, since the company has world-class sound technicians working for it in many locations already, if not at the studios...

They could certainly use the techs at their record companies to get the job done, in one day possibly.

The first way to do this is bring back the original. Under New Management is an awful replacement. I still see it occasionally for the Phil Hartman nostalgia, but I think another poster here summed it up well... "rap in adventureland?!"

The good news would be that Disneyland Resort's version is still unaltered with no plans to change.

Alas, it seems even the Disneyland is in line for some changes this Fall. Hope they don't go to the cruddy extent WDW did.

2. So does show quality since 1971, but that could use TECHNOLOGICAL updates.
3. You are doing this just to annoy me, aren't you?? :animwink:

You know Grizz that back in 1971 music categories were much more separated than they are today. It was rare for a country song to appear on the pop charts. Today, however, it is very common for country and pop music to be on the same music charts. I just thought it might be a good idea to have the Country Bears do a little hip hop in their show. If this proves to be popular then perhaps they could change the old script from Country Bear Jamboree to Country Bear Hip Hop.

Also, with the advent of modern AA technology some of the bears could be programmed to perform some break dances.

As a child, my father would threaten my sister and me with the Tiki Room if we misbehaved. No I find it to be a nice air conditioned nap room, like the hall of Presidents.

No rehab could bring it up to the standards of today. It was a showcase for the dawn of animatronics. If anything, it's a museum to me.

that is a good point, but have you ever heard about the foreign tiki birds? i believe i was told that in tokyo and paris, and soon in hong kong, that the tiki room is much more up to date, without the help of iago and zazu, that they did the show like old times, but in a new generation... if that makes sense, with more technology and stuff like that. which brings the question...

since the tiki room is not near as popular now as it was in it's first few decades, should it be redone to match the foreign shows, or demolished and made into a memory bringing something fresh in? and as fresh, i do not mean a spinning ride aboard birds, like elephants, rockets, dinosaurs and magic carpets.

We go to the Tiki Room every time we're in MK... personally I liked the old show better than the new one... but I go strictly for the "tradition" aspect of it for our family, but I never "loved" either show... :)

Interactive Attractions RULE!

If it were up to me, I'd combine the TIKI Room with the Frontierland Shooting Gallery!

What youd have the birds shooting the guests? Thats not very safety concious.

...I never thought of it that way. There are far too many guns in the claws of birds these days already. OK, scratch that idea!:lookaroun

Now that would be interesting - a shooting gallery, but where you have to worry about being shot back! I like it.

Or maybe halfway thorugh the show the Country Bear Jamboree comes charging in to catch the birds and eat them for dinner. I could see a new restaurant opening out of this - exotic fowl restaurant.

You're on the right track, but in order to make sure that this new attraction passes U.S. Constitutional muster, I think the Frontierland Shooting Gallery should be combined with Country Bear Jamboree.

That way "the right of the people to keep and arm bears" will be protected at WDW!

Reading between the Tiki Lines....

I dunno, maybe I'm talkin outta my here but I always though there was a 'little something extra' in the Under New Management version...

Personally I liked the original version a LOT more especially since it had a lot of Walt's touches in it. And I think the Imagineers who had to re-design it may have resented having to mangle a classic. And thus may have decided to put a little subliminal message in the new version...

Here's why I'm thinking just such a thought. Tiki was one of the first WDW "classic" attractions to get a major "updating" during the reign of the "new management" of a certain Mr. E right? (Remember the whole Pirates PC "corrections...")(Maybe they were hinting at WDW/WDI management too/instead, not really sure) Correct me if I'm wrong here, and I maybe I am (see 1st sentence of post  )

Maybe the Imagineers were a little resentful of having to "butcher" one of Walt's classic attractions...one of the earliest AA attractions in fact. So they decided to write a script that poked fun (in a very subtle way) at their current management. Presenting them as going for "the flashy", "the hip", "the now" over trusted quality entertainment.

Think about it next time you see the show...it's something to think about.

Then again, I may have to put this with the files on "little green men" too... :hammer:

Hmmm... a club "Under new management" with a questionable character running the place, the talk of guns and such...

Are the Soppranos running this joing now? It's the Gangster Tiki Birds!

You know, seriously I can see some kind of 30's theme here - out of ________ Tracey, perhaps? What kind of storyline could you develop that would have still have the performing tiki birds and gods and such, but maybe a second story, too?

I'm in the minority but I like the Under New Management version. Granted, it's not the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it is FAR better than the original. Barring any nostalgia and the main theme song (which is a classic) the show was a total snoozefest, even for a hardcore Disney lover.

Can you imagine was the casual tourist would think of it? That's why it was changed.

Iago is a great and underated character. "Hunky Tuna Tostada", one of my favorite lines in a park attraction. And the BEST, "maybe I'll go over to the Hall of Presidents and take a nap". My wife, sister & boyfriend always busted my chops when I wanted to see this atttraction that they would sleep during it (much to my chagrin).

I always stay until the CM kicks me out to hear all of Iago's banter as you are leaving. Yeah "rap in Adventureland" but it's an older song from a Florida band (Miami Souns Machine) so it's more acceptable than just some flavor of the month nonsense

:D

I enjoy UNM ten times more than the original Tiki Birds. The old one put me to sleep, and personally I think Iago and Zazu add a lot to the show. Sure, the rap doesn't fit in Adventureland, but I can put that aside to enjoy the show.
