These large structures don’t necessarily mean better guest flow. I actually think guest flow is worse.

I think it will improve the flow since all the cabling is overhead, the guests are presented with a single linear structure instead of three different ones over here and over there and a big old hole in the middle.

We will have to see how the DAK one works, to me the TTC, Epcot main entrance, and DHS guest flow has only gotten worse with the new style. My opinion of course.

The MK guest flow is much improved of course by having guests screened at ttc and at monorail hotels. Still those photos of the outside of MK look like such a maze, I think there are escape rooms with a simpler layout.

New AK bag check is enormous compared to the old one, which has already been demolished. Nice to see it'll be open for guests when AK reopens.
The amount of pavement, light poles, and lack of planting at the DAK entrance is horrifying. It’s like walking through a parking lot now. Wow. Why such tiny, single tree planters? Even in peak season I’ve never seen crowds at the bag check before. This just seems like total overkill.

Maybe they are anticipating the hordes that will descend on the park when they fix the yeti?

There is deliberate thematic intent in the arrival transition from expansive asphalt parking lot / understated and blocky entrance structures / wandering path through the oasis leading to discovery / reveal of Tree of Life and the lush core of the park.

Anything outside the gates at AK is actually supposed to look kind of ugly.

I feel like that excuse, if true, is a cop out. We don’t need a parking lot oasis, but some shade and trees here and there wouldn’t hurt. But I do think they’re no where near done and it will look a lot nicer in the end. WDW parking & entrances could could just use more trees or shade period, I hate parking at WDW. Even Six Flags Magic Mountain added a shade structure at security check (ugly though) and Florida weather is way worse.

Plus, all 4 parks seem to all do this in their parking lot & park entrances so this theory seems a little suspicious or easily placed to save money Disney money. There’s no oasis to draw you in at the other 3 parks entrances.

I'll grant you that the parking lots themselves are pretty ugly, for all 4 parks. But all were very carefully planned.

The AK 'arrival experience' is legit, the intended contrast also ties into the parks central theme of conservation and balance with nature.

Hollywood Studio's parking lot re-design incorporates the skyliner route and long rows of "California style" palm trees. I think it's easily the best looking of the 4 parking lots, and lends a lot of kinetic energy to the arrival experience there. Things are always on the move in Hollywood.

From the moment you enter the parking lot, EPCOT is about leading you on a voyage of discovery. The main entry axis of the EPCOT lot aligns perfectly down the symmetrical core of EPCOT, drawing you directly in. All of Future World (had) very intentional sight lines leading your journey from one pavilion to another. From the parking lot, this (was) all hidden and Spaceship Earth commands the entire entry experience. I've always felt it's a missed opportunity to use the parking lot for a solar farm, shading the parking areas with technology and innovation. I'm sure there were issues with efficient traffic flow through a forest of support poles, though.

Much has been written of the MK arrival experience being the 'curtain going up / opening credits' of the 'show'. Removing the 'real world' of the parking lot from the 'fantasy' is a large part of why it is where it is, and again every step of the multi-part entry journey is supposed to let you leave that real world behind.
