Improved Transportation?

Is there any rumor or possibility of improved WDW transportation? I feel like the busses really do take away from the overall experiance of being away from the real world... I couldn't imagine a better addition to WDW than more alternatives, like the monorails. There were rumors on this site a while ago about possible added rail transportation of some kind. Any possibility still?

Monorail Expansion... oddly enough, it was reported only yesterday that the old monorial orange from Disneyland was shipped to WDI to reverse engineer a new monorail system for the Disneyland Resort... and if all goes well, the plans will be adapted for the Walt Disney World Resort. Now at WDW, this doesn't mean a replacement of all the trains, only added trains. Something's going on. I wish I was in Glendale to ask. But as for WDW, in the near future, absoultely NOTHING is sure or planned. Well, except new busses. LOL. Hope that answers your question. :)

I know a lot of people complain about WDW transportation, but I think Disney does an amazing job of transporting a huge number of people from point to point, with a minimum of inconvenience. Sure, it's not perfect, but when you consider the volume of guests safely transported on a daily basis, it's pretty darned good.

Just as expensive as building any other form of transportation... in fact, monorails are one of the cheapest forms of above ground transportation.

well, when you add in the 20 min. sitting on the side walk waiting for a bus I'd say I'd take monorails anyday.

Leaving the Magic Kingdom no doubt... not realizing that the Resort monorail on the other side of the platform also stops at the MK Parking Lot.

Bill, I am not a moron, I realize the resort monorail stops at TTC. But the waits for boats or monorails at the magic kingdom post parade or at park closing is often 2-4 times as long as the bus wait.

Not really. Have you ever taken the time to go over to the busses and wait? You'll be waiting there for a while. That's a gurantee.

That is incorrect.

The current cost of building extensions to the monorail system are so expensive that recovering these costs from the savings of running fewer buses would be impossible.

The bus system is clearly the most cost effective transportation system for WDW.

Here are some facts for you Bill:

Watercraft is actually more effcient than the monorails. On the cruisers we can hold up to 120 guests, where as the monorail can carry 160, on the Ferry Boat however, we can hold up to 600 yet the boat has a capacity for roughly 800. The launches can hold 40, yet at close we may run 3 of them, having a boat at the MK rougly every 3-5 minutes. If we have good pilots at the helms, we can empty our portion in 45 minutes, where as the monorail can take up to an hour to an hour and half. Busses without a doubt are the most efficient means of transportation we have. :slurp:

Ah you missed what I said, as I clearly stated it as "above ground" transportation. Though I 100% agree with you that busses are the cheapest form of transportation. :) But I was going for above ground. See, Busses always have to wait at stop lights and all that. Now, if Disney were to build their own stations for busses and have their own roads for the busses to use, I'd have no problem with the busses, but obviously that would drive the cost up to be even more expensive than a monorail system. Now boats, on the other hand, are nice, but water doesn't connect all the Disney parks. I don't even think it's possible to connect them all via boat, as the water levels differ greatly between lagoons and waterways. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Okay, what am I rambling on about?

Compared to light rail and above ground trains, Monorails are the cheapest. :)

Bill, you seem to be infected with the septicemic monorail plague. Please let me assure you that the monorail at WDW is an "attraction". It is not now, nor has it ever been, nor will it ever be a viable or serious transportation system.
