The news that splash mountain will be closed for the first three months of 2013 for refurbishment got me thinking. Splash mountain has been my favourite ride at WDW since I first visited and I cannot think of a ride I would be more disappointed in finding out would be closed during my holiday.
The last time I visited Disney was in 2007 and both the haunted mansion and Spaceship Earth were closed for refurbishment and the lack of both these rides definitely had a negative impact. I have recently booked for next year and already concerned about what rides will be unaccessable!

Which ride would being closed for refurbishment would have the greatest negative impact on your next disney holiday?

We usually go in January so I am used to Splash being closed, which stinks, as it is one of my favorites. You'd think they'd vary it every year (say January one year, March the next, etc. Small World was closed for two of our trips.

The only one which could cause me to consider postponing a trip would be Pirates.

We've been at WDW during all sorts refurbishments. Space Mountain, POTC, and TT probably were the toughest ones to date. (We completely didn't miss Tiki and CBJ when they were closed.;) ) However, we've never been during a TOT refurbishment; TOT is so well executed, this might be the toughest one to handle.

It's Tower Power! We have never been to HS without riding ToT at least 4-5 times in a row, usually first thing A.M., or during Fantasmic...the lines are really short then. PoC would bother because it is the "ceremonial" last ride of every trip.

I voted for TOT because that would be the one I would miss the most, but I would be okay with any closure. I was pregnant on our last trip and couldn't go on any of them, and my vacation was still fantastic.

I probably ride the TOT most off that list on my visits. I've been lucky that in al my life it's never been down when I've been there however I accept that sometimes attractions need to be shut whilst work is done on them. This year I heard a woman on the monorail from Epcot to the MK complaining that Test Track was down and how dare Disney close an attraction like that down without telling her a year ago they would be dong so when she booked. She was telling her husband that she'd be demanding her money back as that was the only reason they'd gone to Disney. I was very tempted to ask her "Why was she going o the MK if she'd only gone to Disney to ride Test Track" however Mrs M gave me a withering look as if to say "Leave it!". After 10 years of marriage I'm getting quite good at identifying what various silent 'looks' mean :)

I am not a thrill ride person and I also have a few of those rides right in my backyard (DL).

I used to think that my favorite attraction being closed would break my heart, but then I went to WDW when Spaceship Earth was closed and another trip when Living with the Land was closed. I love both of those so much that I though it would break my heart, but I still greatly enjoyed my trip and I realized that unless an attraction is permanently closed, I will be fine.

I voted Soarin I guess because EPCOT would be nothing ( well not exactly) w/o both Test Track and Soarin. We're actually postponing our vacation until late 2014 when the mine train opens. I want to see the New FL in ALL its glory!:D

I'd be upset if Space Mountain closed. Thankfully it has only happened once in all our trips.

ToT could close for good and I would be just fine with that. I hate going on that ride. Scares the bejeesus out of me every time.

Let me preface by saying that TOT would be my breaking point if it were up to me.

But, on a side-note: Are we serious here??? I posted like the SAME EXACT THREAD like 2 days ago and got chewed out to the point that my parenting skills were called into question for postponing a trip a few weeks so that my daughter would get to ride Splash Mountain! How is it that everyone here, including some of the same people who ripped me a new one, are just peachy?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Okay - you know what- now that I look back at my thread I realize I was mistaken in that the person that was attacking me has not in fact posted on this thread (That person's name and the name of someone on here are very similar). But, just a bit of warning to the OP: for some reason the topic of the effect of refurbs can cause some serious hostility. Just know if the hostility arises, I'm definitely one who will plan a trip around a refurb so that I don't have to miss out on the ride.

Not us. While we do really enjoy Space Mountain, there is no one ride that would cause us to delay a trip while it is on a refurb. There are so many things to do in WDW that it would not be something we would consider.

To clarify, I wouldn't drastically change a trip or cancel a trip- for example, I wouldn't wait to go for years just to avoid a refurb. I've been on multiple trips when rides were down and I was bummed. But, for example, with the splash moutain refurb, once I found out it was down, I decided to go in April instead of February (instead of Feb 15th, I'm thinking April 20th), so it's like a few weeks difference. I just consider it "planning" around a refurb. Just my take on it...

As someone who had an AP to Disneyland Paris last year, and who has been a frequent guest of WDW and an occasional guest of DLR, it would take much more than one ride being down to keep me from visiting. That being said, out of the list presented, I'd be most upset if POTC was down. (Or "Pirattes" as it's called in the poll..haha)
