This is good news. There is a lot of Disney movies coming on 3D.

Two films that are being converted into 3-D are the Pixar classics "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2," which will be re-released for a special two-week double-feature run in October, whetting the public's appetite for next year's "Toy Story 3."
Zoradi also screened a few minutes of another animated classic that was chosen for the 3-D treatment, "The Beauty and the Beast," to be released in time for Valentine's Day 2010. Other 3-D clips screened included "Tron 2," the eye-popping sequel to the 1982 cult hit, and a series of shorts in advance of "Cars 2" called "Car Toons." The bespectacled audience was likewise enthralled by the first 47 minutes of Pixar's latest movie "Up" -- the first flick from that studio to make the leap to 3-D.

Finally, an excellent idea for Downtown Disney. This will be a good edge over CityWalk. I find it kind of funny that no one thought of this before.

Ummm...WHY? I mean...Theaters 1 & 2 are GIANT. I mean...TWO theater locations all in a row?

Better than ESPN, not as good as Virgin.

Well, I would think that the IMAX screen might be added to the AMC complex. They could just raze Virgin, and then build a custom connecting section for the IMAX.

Problem with that is that they'd have to axe the shop in the middle, and that would remove a key entrance to the West Side. I don't think they will, butchaneverknow.

I suppose the most likely thing would be a bridge from the second level of the existing AMC over to the IMAX. Usually you enter an IMAX theater from the second floor, anyways. If they wanted to go the quality route, they could just build the IMAX into the side of the AMC, and offset the West Side entrance down towards DisneyQuest. A complete redesign and rebuild.

Oh, and I doubt that the Pop Gallery have a very lengthy contract with Disney. I wouldn't be surprised if they're not doing that well.

Being listed on the AMC Theater website, I have little doubt in my mind that the IMAX theater is actually happening, and it would make sense that it would occupy the former space of Virgin in some form or another.

Not to try and rain on everyone's parade but, are we a 100% sure they aren't just converting one or two of their existing theaters?

The local AMC 30 near me (outside of Kansas City) opened an Imax theater about a year and a half ago. All that they did was remodel one of the already larger theaters (it took about 6 months to do). After regrading the floor of the theater, changing the seating arrangement, and adding the Imax Screen, the theater re-opened, billed as a brand new theater.

I'm not saying it won't go into Virgin, I just think this is the more probable result.
