As someone who enjoys recording and photographing rides, and watching other people's footage and photos of said rides, I would hate this incredibly. It's half the fun for me. Mind you, I just use a simply ipod for this. If there was a way to just disable those those honking huge ipads, I wouldn't be against this. A crowd of people photographing with iphones doesn't bother nearly as much as being behind one guy with an ipad

But the premise would be the same.. apple could disable photos or video taking inside attractions or shows if the devices supported this kind of technology. Talk about improving the guest experience! :D

What do you think?

I think a better way of improving the guest experience is to have people stop complaining about every little thing. The only reason why the whole disabling a phone inside a concert thing came up is because one artist complained that it's "distracting".

Just because Apple has patented this process does not mean they cannot license it. It easily could be included in Android devices, digital cameras, and whatever else. With both Apple and Google being involved in the music industry there is incentive for them to include something along these lines.

DLR the first week of June. We rode POTC and not one person in our boat, I think and the boats in front of us used any sort of pad or flash. I didn't see any of that at all on our ride. :)

Absolutely HATE the idea. Unacceptable! Yet more acquiescence to our corporate masters- no thank you.

I would expect in the future to see tighter integration between mobile devices and the parks, including ride customization. Disney is fully aware of the competition with mobile devices for audiences today, and working on cultivating the audience.

I don't have a problem with the idea of this technology. It would allow bands to control their own publicity, and it would prevent me from trying to watch a concert through a forest of cell phone screens as people hold them up to record. Besides, this won't be a retroactive thing for all phones. So you'd just bring an older phone, or even a small digital camera that doesn't have this new tech in it.
