Imaginations neon light tunnel

It would have taken some work and a bit of money (two things TDO avoids like the Ebola virus, I know) but there's no reason they couldn't have moved the neon tunnel downstairs into the new post-show. It was the single most distinctive feature of the ImageWorks.

Y'know, an argument can be made that most of the changes we EPCOT purists hate were made in an honest effort to give guests more of what they want, but the Imagination pavilion was deliberately dumbed down and made worse in a blatant attempt to make it cheaper. Nothing else mattered but the Benjamins, and that kind of undisguised disregard for customer experience from a company that built its reputation on that very thing makes me so mad I want to hit something.

:(

They need to do the restore/refurb to Imagination. Now. All other attractions can wait until after this is done. Including Mermaid. And all of the Fantasyland expansion.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

Some worker argued me that the fountain of nations doesn't go off after illuminations which that night it turned out it wasn't running. She also said it goes off to the illuminations score during Illuminations. I made a bet that if I saw it go off the next time I came there she would have to show me the whole backstage system. Sadly I couldn't she wasn't there the next time. She was pretty mean.

I feel ya. A couple years back I called to make a Lunch w/an Imagineer reservation at our specified call date and the CM argued w/me over the phone for 10 minutes that it didn't exist. I finally just got her name, hung up, then called back in hopes I'd get someone with a clue. Luckily, I did. Major forehead smacking that day, tho. Lol!

Love all the pics in this thread. Great memories. Such a shame... Such a shame...

I didn't take these photos but here's some from the upstairs:

It is almost physically painful to me that it's all right there, so close and yet so far away. To say Imagination was my favorite when I was a kid is an understatement.
I agree. I could have sat and watched the jumping water for hours. Just loved it.

I was up there in August and it was suprisingly clean.

Amazing. I wish they would utilize that space again.

Does anyone know if WDI still uses the 2nd floor as a "base"...Or is that done with?

I think that is done. The have certain receptions up there and on a pic I didn't post there was a walled off area that said 3d image testing and listed three CM names, the reason I didn't include the pic was because of the CM personal info.

I can understand leaving it in place vs. demolition, but why keep it powered on?

It's not really "powered on", like they're expecting tourists to go up and nerd out over everything. It is very dark, except for a couple neon lights in the rainbow tunnel, since the equity performer's breakroom is through the tunnel and has to be able to see while they walk through.

I'm sure I knew and have forgotten, but why was is shut down? Dorking around the playground used to be one of my favorite things. I think having the play/explore area in Imagination does wonders for the whole park. It's like you get to visit a nice, compact Children's museum with your admission.

Another reason was because in case of a fire, and loss of the elevator, any handicapped persons would be placed in a "fire-safe" room and would await the arrival of RCID FD for assistance down and out of the pavilion.

You got it. Common practice the world over, but not very PR friendly.

I guess that kills off plans to have it open once more? :(

You would think... but Disneyland is really good at finding ways of modifying their 50-some year old structures to meet modern ADA standards. I'm sure with some creativity and a little of that $$$$, WDW could come up with a solution.

True. Having another floor to explore really adds to the depth of the place.
Not at all. There are ways around it (physically, not legally)
Feh! Look for a loophole?

WDI has their Florida Base office in a building behind WOL. Then they also have a couple of trailers just for Epcot projects behind Soarin'.

WoL? :lookaroun :D

Didn't know about the others, though.
