Imagination Popularity

IMO the most ironic part of WDW's history is when they tried to redesign the Imagination ride without actually USING any imagination :fork:

I've summed up my thoughts on this subject a few times before, but it goes like this...

The new versions of the ride are very easy to explain to someone who's never been on it, you go through some very generic scenes, nothing completely unique, pretty basic, run of the mill, real stuff...

The original pavilion...try explaining that to someone who was never on it, and it will take you a while and a lot of thought, and you still wouldn't come close to capturing the feeling of the attraction.

No matter what Disney does with the pavilion next, it will always be judged against the original, it's sad that with all of the technological advancements since 1982 that we have these excuses for attractions still in Epcot and not their superior originals.

As bad as 2 empty buildings would be it would be better than a dark ride that I could go to Kennywood for. Oh, and the 2 at Kennywood are superior to the 2 versions of the present Journey to Imagination with Figment. Then again, twice Disney did something no other ride ever did: Journey into Your (not mine) Imagination insulted guests (You have No imangination!). And JIIwF the smell scene stinks! I don't think any Six Flags/Cedar Point/Hersheypark/Kennywood ride can do that.

I've only seen the original on You Tube and I am sure it does not do the ride justice. Oh how I wished I could have been on it, it was worth a trip to Florida.

JIIwF? Ghostwood Estate and Garfield's Nightmare at Kennywood are lots more fun.

The other thing I have to wonder: Who would want to work this pavilion? While I am sure the CMs are friendly and professional the morale cannot be good. Is this an undesirable Disney assignment? I know I would probably need a Prozac after working 8 hours there!

I can't for the life of me figure out why they didn't just try to fix the issues the original ride had rather than scrapping the whole thing. That ride was so amazing in its original form, and I'm sure it would be just as successful today as it was in its hayday had they just updated some of the effects and AA's and just tried to correct the issue with the rotation table that plagued the original ride.

Not to mention how much it would cost to replace the whole thing. I am confused wy they would make such dramatic changes when the origional worked out so great and was so popular. I can see the turn table costing an arm and a leg to keep up but they could do the same they do today by deviding the omnimovers. I think putting dreamfinde rand figment to use would be verry profitabul. Maybe making the ride into a splash mountain type ride would do the job. Splash Mountain is always packed when its warm out.

close the doors for at least a year, and re open it with a completely revamped ride, with a nice table service restaurant upstairs and put some interactive games up there. I know it's not that easy, but there are definitely things that could be done to that pavilion that could raise attendance rather than demo the whole building..

Are they going to demo? If they do I hope the fountains stay.

The funny thing is they didnt even hang dreamfinder on his machine at the finalie scene. He is just gone off the face of the park.

Really... if they did demolish there would be nothing to miss. I hope Dreamfinder comes back and they have that old ride again instead of spending more money to demolish. They have a good ride and they neglected it to much.

Really the bulk of the old ride track system is still intact under much of the existing attaction, remaking show scenes and creating a new omnimover system to uitlize the existing full ride track would be a more cost conscious way to return the attraction to its former glory instead of a full demo and rebuild.

hahaha, I'm not so sure about that. I literally fell asleep during Garfield's Nightmare. But Ghostwood Estate was at least better themed than Imagination.

I agree, but I think what I was trying to say is that JIIwF is about what someone would expect to find at a local amusement park rather than someplace like Disney World. Oh, wait, Ghostwood IS a lot better than Figment. At least it has animatronics, looks spooky, has no blank spaces, is interactive, is trackless, and the music is better. And we don't need to go on a plane ride to see it. In fact, the only gripe I have is that there is that one abruptly goes outside in the light at the end and I would have designed a more gradual way. Also, I would have had the operators wearing themed costumes rather than a t shirt and shorts.

Oh, and Purple Dragon, Ghostwood, like the Nights in White Satin ride was, is trackless, which is one way that Disney could solve the turntable and other mechanical issues. Re-Imagination could be done, its just that I think big business feels no need to listen to consumers.

Well I think the original problem with the ride was the synching of the vehicles with the turntable area for the first show scene with Dreamfinder in the flying machine. But with the tons of advancements in technology over the past decade, I'm sure there is a modern day solution to correct that old problem and revisit the original ride concept and utilize some of the original ride structure to save on cost.

They really did make the ride cheap and corny. Today I went to Epcot Center and all the rides were over like over 100 hours except spaceship earth which was a 30 minit wate but all the corrals were still filled allong with all the carts and the only 2 that didnt make it over 5 minits were Imagination and The Living Seas ride. I was in a way verry happy to see that because that can bring change and improvement.

The last thing epcot needs right now is 2 closed pavilions...

Not to mention UoE is not to far behind Image IMHO...

I agree with this post, but for one thing, most people have no idea WoL even existed, just ask my friends and family that went there. So they won't know its closed.

And UoE is very close to Imagine, I would like for them to refurbish that, but not as much as Imagine. UoE needs a refurbishment, Bill Nye and Ellen are starting to get outdated.

WoL has been closed for many years and most visitors don't even know it exists or was even an attraction. Its a dead pavillon so it doesn't even count as an issue at this point, it has no effect on the traffic flow of guests.

So if they were to close Imagination for a refurb, it would be the only closed pavillion as far as guests are concerned.

I went on imagination for the first time without Dreamfinder. I was going to give it a chance and thought I would like it after watcing some youtubes and I hated it, it didnt seem well loved at all and it seemed allot shorter. I walked right thru on a crowded day and the seats were not even filled up. Every line was 50 or over except spaceship earth which I have never seen long but the seats are always full. What got me is that the best post show in my opinion is closed down when it is completly in tact. I thought the new one was kind of cheap.

I personally think Figment sucks. :zipit::hammer::D

Sorry but i dont get the obsession. I think the fans are made up or something because there is never any line!:o:lol::)

Well I not sure you would hate the ride if you remembered the original.

Probably not i just think there are so many other great rides and characters i just font get why that would be your fav attraction.

Just my personal opinion. But yeah, i suppose if i grew up with it...For example i would be gutted if they changed peter pan!:):):)

Because the original was a huge E-ticket on the level with SSE.
