When I first made my reservations a few months ago, everything was available. Today, I searched to possibly upgrade a few nights on our reservation and it was sold out of a few hotels! Is there anything going on that week???
Has anyone experienced the same?

Not old, just vintage.
Which ones are sold out? Im curious too. I will be at Pop Jan 23-27. I wouldn't think that this is a super crowded time of year.

I think, as others have also stated, that there just isn't a slow time anymore. Might be a convention or two in town also that wouldn't be on anyone's radar. Then again, we just got back and, in talking to the people at Poly concierge, they confirmed they've been pretty close to 100% occupancy for the last 5 months (while apoligizing they couldn't upgrade us to MK view-dang!).

Good luck!

It may be an inconvience to some, but you can request more than one hotel. For example, one night you can stay at Coronado and the next three nights at Port Orleans. They will transport your luggage as well. If you are on a specific schedule and you have to visit a certain time, it is a great way to experience somewhere you perhaps never have stayed at!

I know for a fact that there are two weddings going on at Coronado Springs at that same time (I will be there for one, my friend who is getting married knows the other party). i know for a fact that my friend has 50 rooms to herself.

Were you checking online or did you call WDW directly? There are a number of circumstances that will cause online and even phone reservations to show a false no rooms available. A good CM or an agency like KK seem to have little tricks to get around those. In one instance I was looking for a simple Saturday check in Monday check out in the off season at PORS. Online showed no availability but KK was able to book it by booking a longer stay and canceling the unneeded days.

Some of those blocked out rooms may become available if they are not reserved soon. At least that's the way it's always been done when I get an invite or am going to a meeting; it usually says "Rooms will be held until such and such a date."

Don't forget that January 21 is the MLK holiday observance, so a lot of people will be taking advantage of the long holiday weekend for a trip to see the mouse. Some of them go ahead and take the whole week off, since they only have to burn four vacation days instead of five. That could explain part of the difficulty.

I searched online under passholder rates and regular rates. None of the value resorts were coming up for me. Then I tried from Monday to the following Tuesday, thinking, as stated above, that the Monday was the problem, but still, none. Just have to find out when we get there I guess!
I second that there are no longer any slow times in Disney!!

The weekend is definately the culprit because when I tried to put in those exact dates (Jan 20th -29th) all the values and some mods are unavailable but, when I changed the arrival date to Jan 22nd and kept the departure date as Jan 29th, all the values and mods came up available with prices.

Cheer and Dance Nationals begin Jan 18 through Feb 10. UCA/UDA College Nationals, 01/18-20, Cheer High School Nationals 02/8-10, Dance Nationals 02/1-3. They are given option packages of 3,4, & 5 nights at the Value Resorts and Caribbean Beach. These teams usually arrive 2 days before competition and depart 2-3 days after. As one group is departing another will be arriving.

Hopefully these teams won't be fighting, breaking noses and getting kicked out of the resorts at 2:00am.......Just a thought.....

Convention Season as well

This is also the convention season. A large (20k people) convention will descend upon the Dolphin and Swan that overflows to a ton of other hotels as well across property. Now that will not affect the lines so much but most of those folks extend the trip (20th-24th) for either the coming in weeekend or the going out weekend with family. That will be a big culprit as well.

So true. We usually get different info when we call vs. looking online.

Oh yippee! We're there from the 3-9th at CBR. Thankfully we've been there with them before and didn't seem to have much of a problem. I can cheer with the best of them......I have a BIG mouth!

If you are military or retired military or have a government job, I see that the Shades of Green resort is mostly open during the days you speak of -- Jan. 20-29.

The only dates that are booked solid are Jan. 18-20 and Jan. 27. Another day, Jan. 28, has limited rooms. Other than that, the rest of the days are green, which means there are many rooms available for your stay.

Hope this helps, if you have any ties to the government or military.

We ran into the same issue in 2007 (1/20 - 1/26) when a friend tried to book at Pop Century with us last minute. She couldn't get anything through Disney but was able to get a prefered room with her AAA discount.

I will say that even though the resort was booked solid (and yes it felt it) we expereinced very little crowds at the parks... we even thought it was better crowd wise compared to when we went in September later in the year. Bus transportation was still pretty good and the food court wasn't that bad. In the end we just weren't fans of Pop and ventured to ASmu in September. I noticed this same "booking issue" happened during our September trip as well.

Resorts seemed to have full availability one week and were booked solid the next. It had me freaked for a while, thinking that it was going to be nuts down there. You tend to forget that while the resorts on property may be booked, the resorts off property are practically empty due to slower seasons.

We didn't notice any dancers or cheer groups at Pop Century in January as most group packages are for the All Stars. Disney does try really hard to contain these groups to select resorts.
