"I'm running my first Half Marathon, why not at my favorite place in the World!" PTR

My name is Jen and I am a Disney addict!!
I have never written a pre or post trip report before, but I thought this would be a great time to start as I will be training for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon as well as preparing for the trip.

Here's the scoop: I have never been much of a runner, but I started running about 2 years ago and have really started to enjoy it. My husband, Brian has been a runner all his life, but has just started seriously running again this past year. Brian and I decided that we were going to run our first half marathon and I thought what better place to run than in my favorite place in the World.

Trip details: All Star Sports November 9-13. We have stayed at All Star Movies and Music before, but this will be our first stay at Sports. We figured what better resort to stay at since we are there to run, and it is a marathon resort, so we will have transportation to and from the event.

ADR's: Boma-breakfast the day after the run (I am not usually a big breakfast person, but I figured I might need the extra calories after the race)
Hollywood Brown Derby-dinner
San Angel Inn-dinner

Just a few more details: We have never been this frequently before, but after trips we made in April 2009 and June 2010, Brian caught the Disney bug that I have always had. This is the third trip we have made to Disney in just over a year. We made a trip just the two of us in Sept. 2011 to celebrate our 10th Anniversary, and then the whole family(myself, Brian, Austin 18, Emma, 8, Alex6, and Eric, 6) went the week before Christmas.

Training: This week the "official" training begins. I have been running up until now, but I am following one of Jeff Galloway's training programs, so that officially starts this week. I will keep you posted as to how I am doing. His program calls for a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday week, but I will be doing a Monday, Wednesday, Saturday program most of the time as I take a cross training class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Hope to hear from some other runners and fellow Disney lovers!
See ya real soon.

Good luck with your training! I hope you'll post a trip report and let us know how much fun??? the two of you had. Running a Disney half marathon has been in the back of my mind for about a year now but I don't think I'm dedicated enough to train for a half :).

This PTR is right up my alley. I started running a year ago and my wife about 6 months ago. The goal is to do a full marathon at WDW in 2014. I would like to try a 1/2 marathon in January with my wife but I'm not sure if we will make it. Good luck on your training.

Thanks for all the support. @meeskamickey, I didn't think I could ever run a half marathon either, but I have made it to 6 miles so far and it is not as bad as I thought.

@tink65, I would love to hear more about your Wine and Dine experience.

Good luck with your training @Joshua&CalebDad.

Is there an easier way to post to multiple people at once???

So I just finished week 1 of training. Everything is going great for me.

My DH on the other hand has some sort of injury to his ankle. (he was trying to be under 20 minutes in a 5k we did on 4th of july, he beat his goal but set himself back in the process). The doctor told him not to run for two weeks, so he is going to be behind in his training.

I am sure he will still find a way to beat me though!

Congrats on training for your first half marathon! My husband and I did the marathon (my first long distance race ever) in 2011 and we are doing the Goofy Challenge in 2013.

To post to multiple people just click the reply on each post you want to reply to. You will see the posts in your reply box and you can make your comments there.

Hopefully your husband will make a quick recovery and can continue training soon!

Thanks for the support. That is awesome that you did the marathon. I have brief thoughts of doing the goofy in the future, but I need to make it through the half first and go from there.

Good luck to you and your husband on the Goofy!

Good luck I was thinking about doing the Wine and Dine Half but opted for the full in January  I'm not sure how my body would handle running at 11pm, I am definitely more of a morning gal than a night owl. I am doing the Galloway marathon plan for the full and so far I wish it was more challenging, I bet I won't be saying that when the 17 mile run pops up.

Best of luck! I too will be running my first half marathon at WDW. I'm aiming toward the Princess Half in 2014 (I've got about 75 pounds to lose before I can begin training without breaking my joins). :) I can't wait to read your trip report... all the running reports have been a huge motivation for me!

I would love to run in Disneyland, but unfortunately the budget won't allow a trip to California in the near future. Maybe some day!

Now you have something to work towards. I am already thinking of what race I am going to do after the Wine and Dine and this is coming from someone who didn't used to like to run!

I am also a morning person, so running at night will definitely be a challenge. I am going to start doing some of my training runs in the evening to get used to running after being up and active all day. I have done a few in the evening so far, but they were just 30 minute runs.
