"I'm running my first Half Marathon, why not at my favorite place in the World!" PTR

My name is Jen and I am a Disney addict!!
I have never written a pre or post trip report before, but I thought this would be a great time to start as I will be training for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon as well as preparing for the trip.

Here's the scoop: I have never been much of a runner, but I started running about 2 years ago and have really started to enjoy it. My husband, Brian has been a runner all his life, but has just started seriously running again this past year. Brian and I decided that we were going to run our first half marathon and I thought what better place to run than in my favorite place in the World.

Trip details: All Star Sports November 9-13. We have stayed at All Star Movies and Music before, but this will be our first stay at Sports. We figured what better resort to stay at since we are there to run, and it is a marathon resort, so we will have transportation to and from the event.

ADR's: Boma-breakfast the day after the run (I am not usually a big breakfast person, but I figured I might need the extra calories after the race)
Hollywood Brown Derby-dinner
San Angel Inn-dinner

Just a few more details: We have never been this frequently before, but after trips we made in April 2009 and June 2010, Brian caught the Disney bug that I have always had. This is the third trip we have made to Disney in just over a year. We made a trip just the two of us in Sept. 2011 to celebrate our 10th Anniversary, and then the whole family(myself, Brian, Austin 18, Emma, 8, Alex6, and Eric, 6) went the week before Christmas.

Training: This week the "official" training begins. I have been running up until now, but I am following one of Jeff Galloway's training programs, so that officially starts this week. I will keep you posted as to how I am doing. His program calls for a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday week, but I will be doing a Monday, Wednesday, Saturday program most of the time as I take a cross training class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Hope to hear from some other runners and fellow Disney lovers!
See ya real soon.

Congrats to you for pursuing your goal.
I want to run the Wine and Dine when my DD is 5 so please post how you did and how many people were there. Those large running crowds make me nervous. Very excited to always hear from us runners who haven't done a 1/2 yet!!

Just started week 4 of training. Everything is going well so far. My husband just started running last week. He is not following a training program yet, just trying to get some miles in slowly so he doesn't reinjure himself.

We also made a change to our ADR's. Now we are having breakfast at Kona, and dinner and Brown Derby and San Angel. We also have our favorite CS restaurants as well and will probably choose which ones to eat at before we go. I am just trying to figure out what and where to eat the day of the race.

Any suggestions???

Just finished week four of training. Ran 6 miles this morning and it felt great! We only have 97 more days until we are in the World! Still trying to find cheap flights.

59 minutes. I am running a 10k in a week and a half and am hoping to be under 60. I just don't want to start in the last corral.

@ Soarin ... I(47yo) am training for the ToT 10 miler along with my hubby(49yo) & son (22yo). We are not runners but we have been "training" for several months... following Jeff Galloway ... as best we can. I just can't seem to be able to "run/jog" longer than 3 mins :( So I am at 3/3; walk/jog ...etc. It's a13-14 min mile which is in the range' Praying I can do this! I just did my first 10k sunday ... just under 90 mins. It was sooo HOT! But I finished & I don't know why but I was sooo nervous! I need to relax ... its just a race/"power walk" :) Hubby is sidelined with a calf injury :( Hoping he soon recovers cause I really want him to run/walk with me as I am sure our son will finish quickly. O to be young again :) Any who good luck to you & yur hubby :)

Jeff Galloway's programs are great. If you are in the 13/14 min mile range now, you will definitely be able to make it. I am sure once you get there, the excitement of the race and being in the park will help get you motivated and you will run faster as a result (that's what I keep telling myself at least :)) My husband was injured as well and is so-so right now. He told me the other day that he is just going to run with me so he doesn't hurt himself. You will have to let me know how you do. :)

90 MORE DAYS!!! :) Just finished week 5 of training. Had my first magic mile and I was nervous for some reason, but it ended up being easier than I thought. I am almost a third of the way through my training program which is hard to believe.

So I am way behind on my posts. I am a teacher and we started school a week and a half ago and that has taken up most of my spare time. We are in week 7 of training, I can't believe we are almost halfway to our goal! We can do the hustle and a little disco now as well, we are 72 days away from leaving!

68 more days!!!!!!!!!

Just finished week 8 of training. The long run was 8 miles, that was the farthest I have ever run! I felt pretty good while I was running and even better after.

I need some dining advice. We are trying to fly out Friday morning and hope to eat on property that night for dinner. Any suggestions for restaurants at a resort or DTD?

Also we are now in need of a dinner recommendation for Sunday. We were going to eat at brown derby, but if we eat table service Friday, we don't want to use up 2 credits Sunday night.

I'm not running the Wine & Dine this year (won't be at Disney til December) but am doing a local Haunted 1/2 marathon. I am still following Jeff's program and just finished my 8 miler last Saturday! I got new shoes that I just don't think are working out....

If you want to eat at DTD you can always try Rainforest Cafe or T-Rex. We really really love Wolfgang Puck Express too. That's just a counter service and you can still save your dining credit for Brown Derby.

Good luck on your continued training! Sounds like you're doing great!

Thanks for the recommendations. I will have to look into those. We have eaten at wolfang's before, but my husband doesn't love it. Good luck to you in your half. What kind of shoes are you running in? I got some Adidas marathon 10's in the spring and I love them!

That is great. How is your training going? Are you using Jeff galloway's program? I am starting to get really excited!
Training is going good, I started off with the couch to 5k program and have worked my way up. My dad has been running Marathons at WDW for years now so I have been training with him. Only 65 days left!!

Hi Soarin,

Thanks for the good luck wishes and good luck to you too. I can't wait to hear all about it when you get back!
I am thinking about doing a Mud, Sweat and Cheers 5k this month....sounds like a ton of fun!

I bought the Brooks Ravenna 3. I've been having some heel pain though. I took them back and exchanged them for the Mizuno Wave Inspire 8. I ran 3.5 miles in them last night. Hopefully they'll work out better than the Brooks. The Brooks had a high support in the mid sole that sat me back in my heel alot deeper. Maybe that was what was causing the heel pain..... I've always ran in Asics 2100 series. I wanted to exchange them for the Asics 2170 but they did not have my size and were unable to order because Asics is getting ready for a new release..... I should have known that if it wasn't broke I shouldn't have tried to fix it! HA HA!

So I completely missed the 50's dance. I got busy with this thing called a job. It has actually been nice to be back at work, (I am a teacher). It helps make the time go much quicker. We are down to 44 days! And 31 work days which is even better. We have made quite a few changes to our trip, but this should be it as we just paid in full yesterday and I don't foresee any other changes. We are now staying at Carribbean Beach Resort. It is still a host resort for the wine and dine. The price difference wasn't that much and I figured when it is just my husband and I we should stay at a nicer place. We always stay at a value when we bring the kids because a room for 6 is not cheap. We have also changed some ADR'S. we are eating dinner at Portobello's and San Angel Inn, lunch at Biergarten, and breakfast at Kona Cafe. The training is going really well and I am really starting to get excited for the race. Only 3 more long runs!

Congrats on your pursuit! It sounds like you are very much On track to meet your goal! RunDisney puts on GREAT running events and you are going to have a blast!!! I ran the 2011 Princess Half and just did the 2012 Disneyland Half. Love me some Disney races!!

As far as dining...I like T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe too. I ate at RFC the night before the DHM and had a great rainbow tortellini dish. It was delicious! As for what to order at Kona...everyone goes for the Tonga Toast but I went for the slightly less sugary, yet to-die-for pineapple macadamia nut pancakes with ham and awesome Kona coffee. It is still my favorite breakfast of all time. Enjoy! I will look forward to your TR. don't forget to post your BLING!!
