I'm Over It

I'm a 27yr old guy with no kids that wastes to much time watching football and spends too much money on cars/trucks. I am the last demographic Disney has on their mind when it comes to Frozen themed ideas and I don't even mind all this hype.

What matters is that every little girl going to Walt Disney World is still not over it and wants to see more of it. Disney is just wanting to give the majority of people coming in the gate what they are looking for. Universal is doing the same thing with Harry Potter. I was over that at the end of the 4th movie, but they are still going strong with what the public wants.
Couldn't agree more! When I was younger I was a huge potter fan, never read the books but the first 2 movies I was there opening night. Third movie I was still big on and watched in theaters. 4th movie, I watched on DVD and I haven't even seen movie 5 & 6 but yet Universal is all about it because still because people want it...just like Frozen. Disney is finally giving the majority of people what they want an yet we still complain?

Welp...the fact that other people aren't tired of it doesn't change the fact that I am. And Frozen is not "easily avoidable" -- it's everywhere!

Yep. Just a month ago, my credit union was doing pseudo-Frozen events. Granted they couldn't use certain trademarks, but they advertised "Meet The Ice Princesses!" All over the place.

Basically they hired a pair of cosplaying children's party entertainers to get more people into the CU lobby.

Really? Aristocats and Robin Hood? Just because they are old, doesn't make them classics.

RT ratings:

Atristocats - 66%
Robin Hood - 52%
Frozen - 89%

Aladdin - 94%. And all Aladdin got was a couple of meet n greets and a lame-duck spinner.

Frozen is just the flavor of the month...and eventually it's going to go the same way as Beanie Babies and Tickle Me Elmo.

The only thing I found more annoying than all of the Frozen hype was the annoying as hell dance parties that have now taken over 3 out of the 4 parks. Granted that the one at AK is on a small scale but when did Disney become Mtv?

And DHS has practically become Frozen central. While there may be only one "area" dedicated to it let's not forget the banners hung on every light post. And that stage in front of the hat in front of the Chinese Theater......talk about a slap in the face...

Ok, rant over.

I know it took years to add all of these ... but Belle has a M&G in France, greets at Akershus in Norway, has Enchanted Tales with Belle, has a show in HS, is seen in the FOF parade, and then of course there is BOG/Beast's castle which is the hardest ADR to get these days. Then there's Ariel ... she has a M&G at her grotto, a ride at MK, a show at HS, is seen in the FOF parade, and can be met at two princess character dining experiences covering MK and Epcot. Both Belle and Ariel have a presence in three of four parks. It seemed like people were excited to see these expansions for those two movies/characters? (And even though they were obviously popular movies, they didn't bring in the revenue of Frozen or create this kind of frenzy) Why are we surprised that Frozen is ending up with more than just a M&G?

To me it was like your run of the mill Dream Works movie. Honestly, Anna and Elsa are the ditziest characters I have ever seen in my life. First time in forever... really, do parents really want their kids talking like that? Kids will mold off those 2. When this part came up I was pretty much done with the movie

No argument from me Aladdin deserves better.

I expect Frozen will hold up as well as Tangled, Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid. It's no fad. It's popularity will wane as happens with all popular movies. But it's not going to flame out like Beanie Babies.

Really? Girls giggling over chocolate caused you to check out of the movie? My 9 year old had a chocolate fondue party and I can tell you that what you see in Frozen is very restrained compared to my personal experiences. Of all the Frozen complaints I have ever heard, yours is the oddest.

Two points as to why Tangled is (objectively) a better overall movie than Frozen.

1. Tangled actually uses a coherent cause-and-effect narrative. In the first few minutes, we are given the entire backstory to this version of Rapunzel, setting the stage for all of the action later in the movie. Pregnant queen is dying and is given a healing potion made from a golden flower, and the flower's healing spell transferred to her daughter in utero.
Frozen, on the other hand, throws everything at the audience hoping it will stick. There is no framework for a story. The first minutes are devoted to ice-harvesters....because....ice is frozen, I guess? It gives us a glimpse of little Kristoff and Baby Sven, but they exist....just to exist really. Oh, they're orphans? Yeah, that doesn't have anything to do with the rest of the movie.

Next scene is Anna and Elsa are playing X-Men when things go horribly wrong. Wait, wait...how can she shoot ice? Is she a mutant? Her parents say she was born with it...are there any other family members that can do this? Like a great-great uncle Aang or something? Nope. Kid has superpowers, end of story. Don't question it.

2. Mother Goethel is an actual villain, and treated as a villain from the get-go. We know what drives her from the beginning...she's the genesis of the entire story. Without her, NOTHING would have happened.

Hans on the other hand....they tacked on the villain element as a clunky about-face that smacks of a thrown-together re-write (remember, ELSA was originally supposed to be the villain with the fall from grace and redemption), and as such it actually makes him a much weaker character.

On a scum-and-villainy take-over-the-world scale, 1 being M. Bison and 10. being Emperor Palpatine.....I'm afraid Hans is only about a 0.2.
If they HAD to make it with a non-Elsa villain, why not go with Duke Weselton? Hans could have been just a normal twenty-something who really did get smitten for Anna and spend the entire movie lovestruck and trying to please her....and Weselton could have been manipulating him the entire time, trying to take Arandelle for himself.
But nope...tacked on about-face good guy is actually a villain who planned to murder Elsa the entire time. Don't question it.

Nah, but something about those 2 really annoy me and I don't know what it is, and your daughters 9, but arrant Anna and Else supposed to be like late teens, early 20's lol?

Let's not forget about the OTHER Movie that was hyped and had a ton of promotion when it first came out (Even having a Parade, 2 Different stage shows, and a Movie recyling films from an older movie and still big on Broadway)

If Frozen never won the little Golden Man....We would have seen nothing...Just a Meet & Greet and they'd be brushed to the side like the other princesess's

This always has to be mentioned when a WDW Frozen thread is started to remind people. No doubt about it:p

It's ironic that Frozen is in the process of a broadway show as well.... :hilarious:

The difference between the two is that Disney didn't KNOW Frozen would be popular. Hense, the fast-done meet and greets and temporary HS additions over the past year.. Seems like they're trying to rush in a decent quality Frozen attraction as fast as they can at the moment. Sorry, Maelstrom. :p

I think everyone should focus on a much better Disney movie such as The Jungle Book, Robin Hood, or The Aristocats to name a few. As Fillmore says, "Respect the classics, man!"

If they ain't popular, Disney ain't gonna get money from 'em!

Seems like they should go ahead and start an attraction for Big Hero 6... That looks like it'll be good. Heck, I still wish they would make a Wreck-it Ralph ride similar to Spider Man!

I know this is overkill, but I just have to rant finally about this.
I don't think the issue for me is that it seems to be everywhere, but that fact that it is being hyped up into this Disney classic. It's a cute movie and Elsa is pretty awesome. Let It Go, besides Menzel's singing, is kind of average. Idk, I have the Disney movies that I like, but I'm more of a Disney parks person anyway lol:happy:

Real talk though: Tangled was a far better movie IMHO. And all it got was a bathroom. Heck, even Wreck it Ralph was tons better than it.
I agree. tangled & wreck it Ralph were better. I think TS3 made over a billion dollars worldwide also, but frozen does seem to be getting more attention in the parks.
probably because of the popularity. I can suck it up & deal with it. mostly for the kids anyway.

I know it's beating a dead horse here, but I am so tired of Frozen. It was a good movie. Not a great movie, IMHO. I'm still not sure why it got as much attention as it did - the music maybe?? Whatever the reason, I am done with it taking over everything. It took over HS, which was a terrible idea because in no way, shape, or form does the theme of Frozen even kind of fit the theme of HS (well, to the extent HS still has a theme; but that's an entirely different rant for an entirely different day). It's taking over Norway, which absolutely drives me crazy. I am okay with princesses in the countries because it does add something for the kids to the WS, sure. But, to overhaul the Norway ride with Frozen? Really?!? The M&G completely ruined park opening for MK, and now the Christmas show at MK is going down the toilet. Beyond just the parks, it's all over the stores with the Halloween costumes and blankets and crap, and all of those annoying YouTube videos of people singing the songs which filled up my Facebook feed for months; and now it took over my show Once Upon a Time --is there no escaping it?!?!?!
I wholeheartedly agree with you. I'm sorry there are so many on this thread... that you created, mind you... that are so against the idea that you don't like it, or are blind to the fact that there is a blatant Frozen overload at the parks these days. Here's the list of everything Frozen in the parks, to my knowledge:

Frozen Meet & Greet at Magic Kingdom
Frozen Fun Land (Skating Rink) at Hollywood Studios - ended
Wandering Oaken's (from Frozen) Trading Post at Hollywood Studios - moved, but staying
Frozen Sing-Along at Hollywood Studios - staying
Frozen Royal Procession Welcome Parade at Hollywood Studios - ended
Frozen Dance Party & Fireworks at Hollywood Studios - ended
Legends of Hollywood Merch Shop now a Frozen Merch Shop (one wasn't enough, eh?)
Norway Gift Shop already being taken over by Frozen (I can provide video proof if needed)
Cinderella's Holiday Wish being replaced with Frozen Holiday Wish - coming
Frozen presence in MVMCP parade - coming
Maelstrom being replaced with Frozen Ride - coming
Frozen Holiday Premium Package - coming
Frozen Meet & Greet coming to Norway (aka Arendelle) Pavilion - coming
Frozen banners - galore
Let It Go - officially stuck in everyone's head

And yes, having to be herded into the Magic Kingdom like you're in a parade is ridiculous because adults couldn't behave themselves when trying to get to the Frozen Meet & Greet. I liked the old way of entering the MK, but a few had to ruin it for everyone eh?

To any Frozen defenders, you kinda have to see her point about Frozen taking over Hollywood Studios, don't you? I've seen several individual posts on the forums as of late, from people who say they like or even love the film, and even they said it was a bit much this summer at DHS. Sure, the Summer Fun is over now; I get that. But when @KCheatle visited back in July, it was everywhere. I'm sure you've had a song that you couldn't stand that was blasted into your ear drums all the time and you thought 'IF I HEAR THAT SONG ONE MORE TIME'... well this is a number of songs, an annoying snow man, two sisters, a couple of guys, a moose... all in her face all the time. You see my point?

And they definitely shouldn't be replacing Maelstrom with a Frozen ride. Not only because Frozen doesn't fit well in WS, but because Frozen was such an unprecedented, enormous hit that, as much as I hate to say this, it deserves a ride done the right way; built from the ground up with awesome theming in the queue and a superb ride experience overall - just like Disney usually does it. Sadly they're going to cheap route with their most profitable property to date. :banghead:

Hopefully the fad will be over soon, but I see a resurgence coming when the ride opens in 2016. Until then, I just have one word for you, @KCheatle

Side Note: I hope the 'Premium Package' thing stops soon. Those things seem like a HUGE rip-off to me; it can't just be me, right? First MNSSHP and now they're taking advantage of the Frozen hype... I actually feel bad for the parents of any Frozen addicts out there; that's gonna get expensive if the kiddos want to get the premium package.

Your dislike for "Frozen" reminds me of my dislike for a different (but equally well-liked) Disney movie, "Lilo and Stitch." Like Anna and Elsa, Stitch seems to be inexplicably everywhere. He's all over merchandise, he took over a well-liked attraction, he's in parades, he's at meet-and-greets, he's at character meals... OH MY GOODNESS, HOW DO I AVOID HIM? By being a big girl and accepting that others might like something I don't care for.

There are literally hundreds of Disney characters to love. Stop focusing on the ones you don't.

And a Dr. Who simulator ride at the UK Pavilion.

Me, I'd rather have a Yellow Submarine/Pepperland dark ride at UK. I think Doctor Who is too much of an acquired taste, whereas most people have at least some awareness of the Beatles and have heard a Beatles song.

Speaking of which, I'd take "Let It Be" over "Let It Go" any day of the week. ;)

1. I know taste is subjective and this is all my opinion....but god no. If you want an attraction based on Beatles music...just make sure you select covers by artists who actually make the songs worth listening to.
Peter Frampton, Eric Clapton, Aerosmith...whatever. Just no Beatles.

Because if I drop by the UK Pavlion and hear John Lennon screeching about walruses and eggs, it's going to take me at least 12-16 hours of playing every AC/DC song I've got to purge it from my brain and bring my testosterone levels back to normal.

2. Or just get the Rolling Stones. They already have a bit of Disney Cred.
