I did DL's Thunder Mountain twice as a teen and WDW's version once a few years ago. It went well when I was a teen, not so much as an adult. I spent most of the ride hunched over while making a grunting noise, it was quite the spectacle.....

I screamed so loud that I think I may have deafened the poor 60+ year old man in front of me! LOL

In the Parks
No
The Grand Canyon and National Parks are something I still want to let my kids see... even if it is stereotypical national lampoons.
We actually did this last summer on our way to DL! We drove from my brother in law's in PHX to Sedona, then stayed in Flagstaff. The next day we drove to the GC. Its amazing. Our kids, 10 and 8 at the time, loved it! The drive from there to DL was beautiful. The GC isn't a far drive from So Cal. Just a few hours. Would make a great side trip from DL!

Okay, so I guess you should stay away from Matterhorn and Space Mountain. I hope you'll be okay on RSR.

Yeah, I've watched the YouTube videos of it and it looks more like Dinosaur+Test Track. I haven't done Test Track but my son and I LOVE Dinosaur. Is that a fair comparison?

And since I have your ear, what do you think of the views of the hotels along Harbor and Katella? is it worth the extra money to stay at those hotels? I've used Google street view and it seems that there are a ton of trees lining the median that might void any view you might have from those hotels. Thanks for your input!!

I think Dinosaur is more like Indy. The first part of RSR is basically just a dark ride. The racing part is really not bad. Just a few turns and two dips. It's pretty short as well. And it's slower than Test Track, so that's a plus for you.

Yeah, there really aren't any spectacular views, except the back of Cars Land, maybe Tower of Terror and the Fun Wheel. Like you said, there are lots of trees. Same for the hotels on Harbor, right across the entrance. If you want a spectacular view, you'd have to book a room at the Grand Californian, and I don't think you want to do that. I wouldn't spend the extra money to stay at the hotels on Harbor and Katella. I think my opinion is obscure because I'm a local and I just go home after a visit. Since I'm used to doing that, the most I'd be willing to spend on a hotel room is maybe $120. I think the Anabella Hotel on Katella has rooms around that price range, and it looks like a really nice hotel. Personally I'd just pick a Best Western and sleep there.

Just a few, although some might not be about Disney. How much time do you think it would normally take to get from the DL area to Universal, and the same with Newport Beach and SeaWorld? Thanks!

Without traffic, from Disneyland to Universal, it takes at least thirty-five minutes. Don't be shocked if it takes you an hour to get there. Newport Beach is about half an hour or less away, and Sea World in San Diego is at least an hour and a half away from Disneyland.

Gravy, that's about what I was figuring! The only other driving we have to do is to check out a few childhood places in Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and Ontario/Upland.

Dinosaur is like Indy but Indy has a higher height limit and is a rougher ride then Dinosaur. RSR uses the same car and drive style as TT

Seriously, a rougher ride? Is it just a mechanical bull that you have to ride with your hands tied behind your back? Good grief.....

You're really just bouncing around on Indy. I wouldn't even call it bumpy, like the Matterhorn. Matterhorn has you bumping into the side of the vehicle, but Indy doesn't. My friend has vertigo and she has no problem with Indiana Jones. You'll be fine.
