Can you ask him if it's just for frequent flyers or if it's open to anyone? One site said frequent flyers but I want to make sure.

The program initially was open to certain frequent flyer programs as it was piloted...
now the TSA has opened it up to everyone (if you are willing to pay)...

The thing is.. you aren't guaranteed TSA pre-check for being part of the program... it is still a 'check at the security' line to see if their algorithms have allowed you to use it this time or not.

If you get it through the frequent flier programs.. you basically do nothing. If you do it through the application process, you need to goto a fixed TSA interview center and do the paperwork.

I don't like the idea of the risk of flying into the ground at 400mph... but sometimes you just gotta say 'suck it up' :)

Yeah, but our track record before 9/11 was pretty clear so one incident doesn't rattle my cage. It seems we have more to worry about with our own government. But now that we've taken the political detour, I think I might actually ask her if she wants to drive out.

It would make for a fun little road trip and allow the kids to see some states that they might not see if not for the trip.

Congrats on getting back to your home turf! We're making our frist trip to DLR in April and I'm very interested to see just how much it differs from WDW.

I'm not a fan of those body scanners either... ugh.

The Grand Canyon and National Parks are something I still want to let my kids see... even if it is stereotypical national lampoons.

I saw the GC when I went on a road trip with my grandparents when I was 12. We also saw the Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Carlsbad Caverns and Jesse James' house. There were a bunch of other little tourist stops and I had a blast.

@raven24 can you give me some tips such as what the crowds are like at the end of July and beginning of August. For now, it looks like we'll be doing 3 days at the Disneyland and DCA. Our free days will be August 2-5th, with 3 days going to Disney and one to Universal. We're looking at getting the park-to-park 3 day hoppers, but I'm also going to see if they offer a AAA discount or something because $1040 for 3 days for 4 people is crazy. I'm going to book a hotel that's right on Harbor or Katella so we can just walk to the parks and not worry about parking fees.

On a side note, I was looking for a few places that I grew up at and I never knew that we once lived only 4 miles from DL, although it looks like less on a map. We lived on Morrie Lane, right off of Chapman.

End of July/beginning of August isn't bad, mainly because a lot of APs are blocked from going to the parks. Of course, going during the week is usually better, but locals/APs like to show up in the evenings after work. Still, it shouldn't be bad. Last summers during that time, was pleasant.

Are you planning on buying the City Pass? That comes with tickets to both Universal and the DLR, and Sea World as well. You don't have to park hop. I don't think it's a complete necessity, even though the parks sit right across from each other.

Well, I would prefer a park hopper only because I don't think there's enough to keep us occupied for a full day at DCA, at least not my son and I since we won't do the Rapids, Soarin, Screaming or Tower of Terror.

The City Pass is perfect! I forgot they had one on the west coast. I think we may have to add a day or two to the trip so we can hit either the zoo or SeaWorld.

Oh, okay, I understand. Are you going to be able to do RSR?

Yes, definitely check out that pass! I think you can cancel out Sea World or the zoo and just add another day to Disney or Universal. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty certain I've heard of people doing that.

Yeah, I think we'll be okay on RSR.

Okay. Just a warning, Space Mountain here is a little faster than the one in MK. I don't know if you have a problem with speed, but I just thought I'd let you know.

I'll pass that on to the ladies, as me and the boy are wimps and don't do thrill rides.

While faster.. DL SM is far far easier a coaster than MK's. MK's is more like a fairground coaster... up, down, jerk, all over. While DLR is more like a big steelie... big swooshing turns.

I did DL's Thunder Mountain twice as a teen and WDW's version once a few years ago. It went well when I was a teen, not so much as an adult. I spent most of the ride hunched over while making a grunting noise, it was quite the spectacle.....
