Sorry, I just have to rant!

So my wife is not crazy about WDW. She will not go this year. Fine. We will have a Disney trip in 2013. She wants to go to the Caribbean. Whatever.

I looked up some info on some all inclusive resort that would be good for a family of 5. OK lets look at Beaches...

Turks and Cacos ( looks real nice ). For one week - regular price of $20K+!! But I can book it for a bit over $15K! What a deal.

Jamaica - not as nice or exclusive but still going to run about $13k.

This is all BEFORE Airfare!

How about Atlantis? - we start at $15k and I'm really not sure what that includes.

There are other "lessor" resorts but I know I'm not going to be happy with and still end up paying a bunch for.

Then I think about how much a week at WDW cost us last year. 8 days at the BCV, dining plan and park-hopper with Air for less than $10k. And the thing was - I considered that a bit of a "splurge" trip.

Again - sorry for the rant. Maybe this bit of cost reality will help my wife appreciate WDW more.

Well, I asked my husband if we could go to France and he said, "sure, I love France! And, while we're at it we'll go to Morocco, Italy, Mexico; in fact, we'll visit ALL the EPCOT countries!":ROFLOL:

You know what? I'm convinced.

To fractal: What about a Disney cruise that goes to the Caribbean?

Stellajack: Have you looked into the Adventures by Disney? You may get your wish, they have a wonderful tour going to France!

Fractal, I can SOOOOO relate to this!!! I am an avid Disney fan (Hello my name is Deb, and I'm a Disney addict kind of fan) and my husband is not. Even though we go through the *why don't we go someplace else" arguement .... guess who wins! He wants to go to Italy, I want to go to Disney. His arguement is, it costs the same. (does he think I fell off of a cabbage truck?!?!?!?) Pam had an excellent idea ... do a caribbean cruise!! (That, is my next adventure ... to take him on a Disney cruise, then a week at the Poly!!!) The caribbean is gorgeous and may be exactly the way your dear wife will fall in love with Disney, via a Disney Cruise :sohappy:

Yes, we have! We did Viva Italia 4 yrs ago and it was incredible but Disney discontinued the France-Provence to Paris trip that we wanted to do a year later. With some caregiver responsibilities now, we are bound closer to home.

Neither of us are even slightly interested in a cruise--even if it is with Disney (ducks head!)

You know I wasn't interested in doing a cruise either until I had to go on the Disney Wonder for training..... it changed my mind completely!!

I've been on the Wonder, The Dream and now the new Fantasy numerous times now and I have to save I love it!!

I understand about staying closer to home. When you can travel again, check out the NEW Adventures by Disney tours that they have out now. They just introduced Asia at our Earmarked conference last month.

Are you signed up for email bulletins from sites like Kayak and TripAdvisor? They can save you a lot of money! I don't know how long you're planning to stay...i'm guessing a week? But $15K does sound a bit steep.

About the issue though...all I gotta say is Good for your wife! :D lol. Seriously though, keep an open mind...there's so much to see in this beautiful world of ours and if you took a vacation to WDW every year you're going to miss out on it! WDW doesn't change that often, so every other year sounds reasonable if you guys are able to take a trip somewhere else on those years in between. My fiance (wife in 28 days yay!) and I love WDW and DL as much as anyone else on this site, but we have so many places we want to visit...and we don't want to have to wait until we're retired to start seeing them! If your wife is willing to go to WDW every other year, I say at the end of the day you're coming out ok!

We're taking a Disney Cruise for our honeymoon next month...but for our 2013 trip we're trying to decide between Yosemite and some of the other California National Parks, Banff Alberta, or Alaska. We also have on our list and in the works a trip to France (with a couple days at DLP of course), Italy and the Swiss Alps, and Nepal. We'll fit some trips to DL or WDW in between those of course!

Thanks Pam,

I have to say that our ABD trip was 1st class all the way. One of our luggage pieces didn't make it to Rome, and Disney even sent someone to retrieve it the following day and deliver it to our hotel! At the end of each leg of our trip, we just placed our bags outside our hotel room door, they "magically" disappeared, and were in our rooms when we arrived at our next location. All "tips" were included in our package price, except for the honorariums for our two awesome host guides, Vinnie and Marco.

We have actually looked at the new ABD-France adventure--looks pretty close to what we were hoping to do.

It's funny that you mention the bags..... that is a HUGE selling point wih Adventures by Disney. I'm happy that you did get the missing bag. A lot of people still don't know just how great ABD is. When you're ready for another one, give me call.

I would like to do Yosemite and other places. I've been to So California and the Southwest already but for some reason I have no interest in leaving the US.

SoCal was a good trip, but I don't think it offers the best of Cali in general...then again I prefer nature at it's finest, so my opinion is a bit biased. Our next Cali trip might include some DL in there, but will ultimately be to enjoy Kings Canyon NP and Yosemite NP, I would love to see the Walt Disney Family Museum as well as other sights of San Francisco and Napa Valley, but at this point in our careers we really don't have the luxury of 20 day vacations! And there is sooo much to see in Cali.

Is your wife dead set on somewhere tropical? If you're already looking at $10k-$15K for a family of 5, you might as well look into a Disney Cruise...that way you can get your Disney fix...the trip is (more or less) all inclusive...and you'll probably end up around $10K for a week! If she's not set on somewhere tropical then I would urge you to think about Alaska!

It's rather nice up here in Canada. Really, really big country with lots to see. You know, you've likely seen the 'O Canada!' movie at the Canada Pavillion.

(Btw, since Pam mentioned cruises, I'd recommend a 7-10 day cruise leaving Boston or New York and going around Canada's Maritime Provinces, then down the St. Lawrence river to the beautiful cities of Quebec and Montreal. :))

If it wasn't so cold I would move there...maybe I'll get sick of the daily grind sell everything and move out to a remote area of the Canadian Rockies to manage a seasonal tea room.

Or maybe I'll work for the railroad...if only life was that simple!

That's funny because every time we go to Florida I say to my wife "I'd love to move here just for the weather." I hate the cold and I was born and raised in Canada. Florida's never too hot for me. We enjoy going to WDW any time of year, but I have no problem at all with the 95 degrees and high humidity of July and August. (I am, however, on vacation during this weather...I probably wouldn't like it so much if I had to work in it. :))

I guess it's not the cold so much as it is the FEET of snow! lol. I have a co-worker who lived in Anchorage for 15 years and she said that on average, one snowfall would give them 8ft of snow!

I can handle cold and bundling up...I can even handle snow...but THAT much of it...ay yi yi!

Fractal, I am sorry your wife doesn't share your Disney love! I think i remember reading in your TR that she wasn't the biggest Disney fan. My husband and I have different vacation preferences for pretty much any place other than Disney--I like to relax, he likes to go go go. But at Disney, we both like to go! So luckily, it works out.

Are there any parts of disney that your wife hasn't experienced yet that may appeal to her? Spa treatments, wine tastings, tours, la nouba etc? I agree with others that maybe a cruise would work. You could always squeeze in a few days before/after the cruise at WDW, that would help make the dates work better for your schedule, and give you a WDW fix!

I know you probably aren't looking for answers, just wanting to rant! I hope y'all work something out!

You really need to shop around. 15K is crazy. We've done it for half that, airfare - all inclusive with alcohol - spa treatments - resort activities every day. Atlantis and Beaches can both be done for 8k. Talk to AAA. Good luck!

Love this answer sounds like something I would say to DW.

DW brings up the go somewhere else sometimes but after comparing Disney with other places the value is obvious. Also since we don't fly or do hotels we are slightly limited.
