This may sound simple and not quite exotic enough for many, but for a family vacation with "teenagers", it is really hard to beat Myrtle Beach, SC.

There is something for every single age in the family. Golfing, great shopping (Tanger Outlets, Barefoot Landing, Broadway on the Beach, and all sorts of private boutiques), live stage shows, incredibly wide beach, amusements, water slides, mini-golf galore, great restaurants, ocean front condos, etc., etc. The cost here per family/week is very reasonable. I love it!

We got a lot of heat for doing Disney as our honeymoon, back when we were just getting married. Everyone was like but its so freaking expensive. And yet?? We did the math and everywhere else we wanted to go was ten times more expensive.

No I am not saying its cheap, but it was cheaper My friends just decided to do the Beaches timeshare thing, since they are just starting out I don't know what their opinion is but we shall see...

To foreverbelle: 16 years ago we thought it was to expensive and the weather in August would be bad to go to Disney for our honeymoon so we went to the "great" Myrtle Beach-alas, Hurricane Fran came through so it would have been best to go to Disney after all. Good choice to you .....

BTW-Do you drive or fly? We're in NC.

I'm a little late to this but I wanted to give you a suggestion. My husband's family goes to the Bahamas every summer and we've been twice. We stay on a tiny island called Hope Town. It is very secluded and you get around on foot or bikes. It is absolutely stunning and very private. They rent a house for a week, and the price is not bad at all. If you think you guys may be interested I have a ton of pictures I could share with you. I'm excited to see that your family is going back to WDW next year, I'm already looking forward to reading your PTR and TR!

Well, I asked my husband if we could go to France and he said, "sure, I love France! And, while we're at it we'll go to Morocco, Italy, Mexico; in fact, we'll visit ALL the EPCOT countries!":ROFLOL:

You know what? I'm convinced.

:sohappy::lol: Love it!!

I guess it's not the cold so much as it is the FEET of snow! lol. I have a co-worker who lived in Anchorage for 15 years and she said that on average, one snowfall would give them 8ft of snow!

I can handle cold and bundling up...I can even handle snow...but THAT much of it...ay yi yi!

Ha...ha...first of all Anchorage is in the US not Canada (if you go that far north you have to expect some snow) and this year I had a total of about 3 feet of snow (not at once...spread out from Dec to March). The temps in April were warmer than in Florida some days. Right now it's a little rainy but last week our temps were between 78 and 86.

We have beautiful white sand beaches and the water is about the same temp at South Carolina beaches.

I actually went the entire winter without wearing a winter coat this year...just a hoodie.

Don't believe in the snowy wonderland hype-it's not true :D

I have visited all of the WS countries except for China and I have to say, it makes you appreciate the showcases in a whole new way. It's worth doing if you can. Makes for more interesting conversations with the CM's from each country when you have been to their homeland.

I agree - Myrtle Beach is fun and can be done a lot cheaper. Wife wants something else though.

Disney is not cheap - but I've never felt like I was being ripped off.

Thanks! Can you PM me some pics?

To fractal, you know, it isn't all that bad going to an all inclusive resort. My wife and I sort of have this unofficial deal together. We sort of swap trips and make one to be more relaxing while the other more "touristy".

In 2008 we went to Cuba for our honeymoon and relaxed the entire time.
In 2009 we did Orlando for two weeks and did all 4 WDW parks, Sea World and both Universal parks. Oh yeah, and Gatorland!
In 2010 we went to Disney again with my parents
Later in 2010 we did an all inclusive to Dominican
...................
...................
our son was born in April 2011
..............
..........
In November 2011 we did a three day trip to New York City which was my first time and her third
The plan this September is to go to Southern California in September 2012 with a part emphasis on Disneyland (our first time)
Then in 2013 we would love to take our son to WDW and maybe my mother in law (would be her first time too) just to share it with others

So there you go. A nice combination of relaxing vacations combined with ones where we are busier. I love both but, yeah, Disney is still #1. So cut a deal with the mrs.

Thanks Big Phil!

We actually have a deal. I like WDW and she likes beach vacations. So far, our beach vacations have been to Myrtle Beach, Ocean City, MD, Jersey Shore points and Hilton Head. She wants to up the ante and go to the Caribean and I'm in shock at the prices, but maybe I'm not looking well enough.
