Anyone besides me feel the little earthquake last night in IL... I like around Skokie if you know where that is and i did feel it for like 3 second however i really didn't think it was an earthquake considering I had been in one on my trip to greece and it was 7 on the richter scale... Please tell me if you felt it to or am i just going crazy over here LOL... My father calls me in the morning and says " did you feel the earthquake last night?" I thought to my self what's he talking about but then i thought back to about 1:30 in the morning and yes i did feel it weird huh?

Tell me how the damage is if you leave near where the earthquake actaully occcured we lived farther north of where the earthquake actually occured so we didn't feel that much... thanks

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
I am near the Oak Brook area... felt nothing... ( I was dead asleep ).

My Friend who lives in Wicker Park... was up... and felt it.

My Friend in Oak Park was sound asleep... and felt nothing.

But when I woke up this morning.. Some of my stuff was knocked off my desk... (bills, paperwork...etc) and my garbage can on my patio moved a bit.. and so did my coffee maker on the kitchen counter. Other than that...nadda.

WOW. I didn't even realize earthquakes could occur in IL.

The Mississippi river was formed because of an earthquake(s) so anywhere along the river (Memphis, TN especially, my grandparents felt a minor tremor there not too long ago) is due for a "big one" within the next 100 years, according to scientists. It doesn't surprise me that Ill felt one too.

The New Madrid (MAD-rid--not pronounced like the capital of Spain) fault runs along the Mississippi River.

A series of 3 earthquakes in 1811-1812 changed the course of the River.

Get a good map of Missouri and Illinois. (you can see this in a road atlas. It shows up better on the Illinois map than Missouri) There actually is a part of Illinois that is west of the Mississippi River. It's about halfway between St Louis and Cape Girardeau. Name of the town is Kaskaskia.

Geography lesson is over.

You may go to recess.

Not many people know that this happens in IL... Usually they are not big but I read a lot about an hour ago that minor earthquakes do happen here pretty often... There is supposed to big a huge earthquake soon in IL or around it Considering IL is onm a fault line i am surprised nothing else has happened ...Yet. I am afraid though now since minor earthquakes are prone to triger major ones in the future. The earthquake in greece when I was near the island of Ithika (where the story the odessey takes place) and we were on the north end of the island the earthquake actually occured about 2 miles south in the ocean. it was a 7 on the scale and pretty bad... Our cabinets came out of our walls (THEY WERE CEMENTED IN!!) WE didn't have any water (no plumbing) cracks in the earth and a lot of chaos considering there were many aftershocks or tremors after the quake. It was a very scary expierence but it was also very cool to see everything around you moving and sliding and turning, cracks in the earth formed too... WOW sorry for typing so much

BTW this earthquake was pretty big, not on the scale of 1-10 i mean it covered a lot of land... people from St.louis -michigan felt the minor quake weird.

I live near Wheaton and felt nothing and nothing out of place. I work in Wheaton, and nothing in the office was out of place either.

Home to one of the biggest quakes in US history, if I'm not mistaken. Lucky us

I didn't feel this one. I was too sound asleep. I remember feeling things a few times in the past. Minor stuff, never very big. I'd like to keep it that way!!!

When I was in St Louis a while ago, I was walking around LeClerd's (?sp) Landing and noticed "nuts and bolts " in the buildings just like the one used after the Charleston earthquake. Once the long (the length or width of the building) bolts were in place, they were tightened to pull things back together.

I'm over on the SW side and i didn't feel a thing. Mostly cause i was sound asleep. Would have been interesting if i did feel it.

by the way...
does anyone remember that one earthquake a scientist predicted for illinois. It was a big fuss a while back but nothing ever happened. All i do remember was that the date, time, year, etc were in the sequence of 0123456789. I'm not sure what the sequence was but it was something along the lines of Jan (01) 23rd (23), at 4:56 (456) and the size of 7.89 (only guessing of course).

I actually have a very funny story about this. Me and some friends were hanging out last night, playing in the dark, telling stories and whatnot...and then the house shook. We were so scared that one of my friends ran over and jumped on me!!!  It was so funny.

The word u are looking for is Laclede's Landing. And I didn't feel anything in good old STL.
