Iger out in 2018

Yup, it was party time. People couldn't wait for Eisner to leave and were wetting their collective pants about how great Iger was going to be. Pretty much the same scenario that happens time after time, when their hero doesn't deliver on their own personal desires. And it doesn't really matter how good that person is. If people don't get what they expected, they are ready to hang them from the nearest tree.

I'm not saying that Iger was a particular advocate of the theme parks, because he isn't, but, the Disney Company is a lot bigger and a lot more powerful then it was when he first took over. Just not in the way that many wanted it to go.

While many - myself included - were celebrating Eisner's departure, I don't remember any pants wetting. At best, I think people were cautiously optimistic about Iger. I know I had very serious reservations about the man.

The best way to explain how I feel about this is by using my own imagination as an example. On another thread, I imagined an ski-themed resort next to Blizzard Beach with an ice skating rink and an indoor ski slope (like they have in Dubai). Additionally, I proposed a ski lift connecting the area to AK, possibly to a snow-capped land like Antartica.

My point is that the CEO of Disney needs to be dreaming up these types of things, not me. Eisner actually walked around the property and took notes of things he dreamt up and passed those notes to Imagineering to develop.

Iger doesn't care. He doesn't do that. His imagination stretches as far as the company's latest IP acquisitions, such as Star Wars and Pixar. That's okay, but he's clearly not the imaginative type. Even at that, he had failed to bring Marvel to the parks.

Exactly!

And once Iger leaves, will Dreamfinder and (the real) Figment be allowed out of Time Out?

They've thought long and hard about what what they did, Bob-honest!

And here's a wild idea: can our new fearless leader be someone who doesn't respond with actual laughter when asked about a proper Song of the South release? Crazy, I know.
The thing is that Bob had nothing to do with their disappearance, the great and powerful Eisner was the leader during that sad time. SotS can no longer be released without a whole lot of criticism and upset. I never found it to be a problem, but, I am not able to decide for others what offends them. Justified or not, it does offend. It wasn't a great enough film outside of the limited Disney community to make the hassle worth it.

Good Morning America just did another Shanghai Disney segment a few minutes ago featuring Bob Over and the newswomen riding the attractions with more statements with Bob which she tells the rest if the needs gang.

FYI, there actually is serious discussion about bringing Meg Crofton out of retirement to become CEO.

Does anyone have thoughts on what her philosophy is regarding the parks, and how her tenure as CEO would affect them (especially in terms of budgets)? How much of the negative was her, and how much was her hand being forced by Burbank?

In terms of other options, would Steve Burke be interested in a new job?

I meant that Bob Iger has did more statements on Shanghai and how much fun he and the newswomen were. He mentioned that Tron is his favorite attraction which the women later explains to the news crew. Sorry for the spelling I was tired at the time of typing that.

Thanks for the explanation. Sorry, I just couldn't make out what you were trying to convey.

Care to go a little further into detail on the Crofton bit?

Seem like I read someplace that Meg was having some health issues. If that's true, then it is unlikely that she would be back. As far as that goes it is unlikely even if she is "strong like bull". It would be good for some folks on the boards because they would have someone to blame everything on. In other words, not very likely.

Sometimes when there's smoke, there's fire (or at least someone trying to start one)...

Non-insider theory time: People in Burbank might want this to happen, because it means their continued employment. A 'Sheryl Sandberg' type could very well clean house.

I was cautiously optimistic about Iger as well as the first thing he did was fix the rift with Pixar, I thought that boded well for the future unfortunately I was wrong. As Iger was only interested in financial engineering from there on in.
