If you were an Imagineer for dark rides?!

I have been thinking about darkrides alot since my trip this summer. It really dawned on me how few there are but when you think of Disney they are what comes to mind for alot of people. I had another thread about this in a way but as I wrote that I realized further that I am amazed that there are virtually NO rides featuring the Fab 5 or other classic Disney characters that do not relate to literature, such as Scrooge McDuck Huey Dewey and Louie, Daisy, etc.... The dark ride would be PERFECT for this! As a matter of fact I think Disney should have a contest one summer where everyone who comes to the parks gets to vote on and help design the next darkride.

So in your dream Disney darkride what would you have?

Here's mine:

The Magical World of Walt Disney!

Ride starts off with sorcerer Mickey standing above the ride entrance casting a spell on you in a shower of smoke, sparks and light that sends you to "Disney cartoon world". The first scene in the dark ride would be steam boat Willie, then the rest of the scenes I really don't care what order they would be in but they are as follows: Mickey and the beanstalk dinner scene with Goofy and Donald as well; Mickey as the brave little Tailor; Mickey Donald and Goofy going camping (you know the one where the camper breaks loose); Scrooge McDuck fending off the Beagle Boys who are robbing his gold and treasure vault; a scene from Mickey's Christmas Carol; Huey Dewey and Louie interacting with April, May and June as Donald and Daisey look on (I can't think of a cartoon with this but they can make up a scene); The wolf trying to blow down the 3 Little Pigs House.....

I have been interrupted and must go now, but you get the idea. So what is everyone's dream ride or can you add to this one? It's Friday and a long weekend so let's have some Disney Imagineering fun.

I love the above idea, especially anything with Huey Dewey and Louie.

My ulitmate woud be a Sleeping Beauty dark ride, in the traditional format, following the scenes of the film. Would be cool if it started like Snow White with a short journey outside King Stefan's castle before you actually enter the ride. Once you go through the first door it would be the scene where all the fairies come to bestow gifts, with Maleficent's entrance and exit.

It would be cool with the new technology to have smell and smoke and effects to accopmany the scenes, like when the fairies are baking the cake for Briar Rose, or some type of fire effect for when Malef turns into the dragon.

Just my 2 cents...

Its weird I was talking to my wife about this the other day. I think it would be awesome if they added a dark ride at Disney Hollywood studios near the muppets. I mean how cool would a Labyrinth dark ride be. Or the Dark Crystal even. I mean they were Jim Henson movies, so they would fit right in. I realize they are old movies, but so are a lot of the movies other rides are based on.

I just want the three original dark rides (intended for WDW's MK) built. The ones based on Mary Poppins, Sleeping Beauty and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

I would like to see the Little Mermaid one that was almost made..... Imagineers had gone as far as create and film a model ride as part of their proposal. It's on the DVD as a special feature. The 20K spot would've been perfect for it!

Sleeping Beauty really is necesarry. That Pinocchio and Alice in Wonderland very much disturb me in their lacking as they are original Disney classics with no representation (I don't count those sickening tea cups.....man we spun so fast on those I felt ____***y for hours, I could barely drink that night.)

I don't know why, but I've always had a vision of a Hercules dark ride. This would most likely be at MGM, but listening to the soundtrack I was thinking how cool it would be to turn it into a dark ride. Riding through scenes of ancient greece and seeing all the cool creatures(the creepy ones will give a little fright and excitement). I can imagine an ending playing 'Zero to Hero' and all the muses dancing everywhere with lights and strobes and stuff. LOL, just a thought. I guess since Hercules is one of my favorite Disney movies of all time its easy for me to imagine this.

Oh, you know where this would be perfect......Beastly Kingdom. They should just let us fans be Imagineers. We'd have that park in awesome shape.

This is a fun thread! I could write a novel on the specific scenes me and my brother have imagined for dark rides. But to be short and sweet like everyone else, I'll just list my dream dark rides.

  • The Muppet Movie Ride (almost built, breaks my heart)
  • Little Mermaid (almost built, would have been awesome)
  • Nightmare Before Christmas (a true fully themed, year-round attraction)
  • A Pixar Dark Ride with animatronics and well detailed sets (Toy Story, Nemo, or a transplant of Monsters Inc. from DCA)
  • Marry Poppins (I've heard about the grand ideas they had for this ride)
  • Alladdin (there is a lot you could do with an Alladdin dark ride)
