You have to ask...?

I have been giving this a lot of thought. I think times are different now in terms of companies are slaves to their investors. And investors care about 1 thing, more and more money. They have no love for Disney nor do they care about how amazing the parks can be for guests if they only invest in it the right way. They do not see that if you put in the money then it will come back to them. I feel bad for those who's job it is to keep the parks running. I think most of them do love Disney and want it to be great but their hands are tied. I also think that a lot of the food issues is the guest's fault. Disney is trying to give us what they think the majority want. Take for example the kids meals. They used to be much much better until this new breed of parents think that children are only able to consume processed, fried junk. WDW has over the last decade tried to provide better kids meals(and still does in some places) but it does not sell. Same for the adult meals. Look at what happened at Pecos Bill, they changed the menu to give us a variety of foods(and the mexican food they have now is good). But look at how many of you even on this board complained how you wanted it to be back to another burger place. Sheesh. They try to give us better food and more of a variety but the crappy American palate just wants their crappy burgers that you can get anywhere. Sure Disney is dropping the ball on things but we have to be aware of the feedback we do give them in terms of what we really want.

Agree with your main points, Specifically at Pecos Bill's WRT burgers I think it was because the only other place to get a burger was at Cosmic Ray's

So if you deconstruct the issue it was more about having burgers AVAILABLE in Adventure Land rather than contorting the menu at Pecos Bill's. where by all reports the mexican food is decent for a fast food venue.

Because sometimes you just want a burger, it's why Jimmy Buffet wrote 'Cheeseburger in Paradise'

This argument is repeated over and over. Doesn’t make sense regardless of how many times it’s repeated.

“Spending several full days” is irrelevant. Completely irrelevant.

Food in Disney World is priced the same or lower than most major amusement parks.. and it’s also priced the same or lower than most sought after resorts.
There is no truth in claiming otherwise, and it’s not relevant to compare a college campus or hospital cafeteria.

No it's NOT irrelevant for most of Disney's history both QS and TS meals were at a modest premium i.e. 20-30% over similar local offerings and the kind and variety of food was much greater.

Example Akershus used to offer a traditional norwegian venison stew and cold plates.

Back in those days we never brought Clif bars to hold us over till we could head back to room or offsite to eat because of the extortionate meal pricing.

We just picked a place to eat and ate because price was inline with value, For us at least 'on vacation' is not a reason to overspend.

Yeah but come on. Magic Kingdom is not that big that you can not walk over to Cosmic Rays and get one if that is what you want. It sounds like everyone wants instant gratification. I want a burger NOW and it better be within 10 feet of where I am standing! We never eat burgers while at WDW. What about people like me who are sick of paying over $10 for a crappy burger. We want something different, there are burgers available in the park for those who want them. There is nothing wrong with having different types of food at different locations. They do not all need to be the same.

We just consider the food at part of the cost of going on vacation. And we know where the values are since we have gone so many times. Really the food prices are not as bad as some make it out to be. Where I live Panera charges $9 for just a sandwich($1 more to add cheese) then add a drink on top of it and you are at Disney prices. Plus no one is holding you hostage at WDW. You do not have to buy the food there no matter how long you are staying. I seen plenty of people with their cooler pulling out sandwiches and fruit that they brought with them. You can also rent a car and leave and come back. Plenty of options if you do not want to spend the money on their food.

True but what was a 5-7 minute walk in an uncrowded park is a 25-35 minute walk with recent crowd levels

There's always a Cosmic Ray's almost dog food quality pulled pork sandwich for $11.99, or a $12.49 footlong hot dog with a bit of barely better than Kraft mac and cheese on top at Casey's Corner!

How about a $14.99 fajita platter with 50% of the weight of a Chipotle burrito that's mostly undercooked rice?

Ugh, MK food is terrible. If we don't leave property for lunch or dinner, we'll still leave MK and hit a monorail resort where the QS offerings are significantly better.

If MK QS food was on par with Panera bread for quality and service and price no rational person would be complaining.

Yet MK QS is worse than what comes out of the Average school lunchroom and is priced higher than premium QS food offerings in the 'real' world

The recurring complaint for WDW seems to be the ever increasing prices. I am no economist, maybe some one who knows can explain how price increases are determined-- is basd on what the maket will bare? is it based on the inflation rate and if so what should the hotels and food really cost, is it based on projected earnings? is it based on something else? From my prespective the cost of food and hotels seem higher than what it should be compared to what we paid in the 70's-90's am I wrong

Like every corporation on the planet WDW has a revenue plan, prices are set to deliver revenue based on expected customer activity.

I agree that most of the food is cheap. But so is most of our local quick service restaurants where I live and the prices are almost Disney prices. Maybe you all live places where good food is fast and cheap but where I live, those are very few and far between. That is why I cook most of our meals at home. MK is the worst park for food. We usually head over to Epcot and eat there when possible. I worked for a subsidiary of Panera. Trust me when I tell you they do not use high quality stuff.

That's a fair point, I live in Orlando so great food is plentiful and generally inexpensive. I'm not much of a Panera fan personally, I think I've been once in the last 10 years. I thought it was underwhelming and significantly overpriced.

Same here, food was almost the same price at Disney as what we pay at home.
We enjoyed almost everything and we were very pleased. I would eat Disney food over Panera anyday but that's my personal opinion on food.
