Trip Report If At First You Don't Succeed...*COMPLETED*

Well we're trying again.

Easter week at WDW.

Not my favorite week to visit but when your travel buddy is a teacher, you make the sacrifice. Except this year it doesn't feel like a sacrifice. The loss of our Easter 2020 vacation (thanks to COVID) was harder than I expected. I’m excited to have the chance for a do-over!

Of course the plans we had in 2020 aren't the same for 2021. We'll have no Fastpasses to skip the long lines. There will be no turkey sammie for lunch at Be Our Guest or All-American Sundae from the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. No fireworks to conclude our Disney days. And we'll be staying at a different resort.

But that's all okay....there's still fun to be had! And thanks to the credit we received from last year's cancellation, most of our trip is already paid.

I have to give David's Vacation Club Rentals props. Eighteen months ago I'd signed a "no refunds" contract for our 2020 points rental, figuring it was a low-risk gamble. When the pandemic happened and WDW closed, we considered our monies lost ~ disappointing for sure, but understanding that was the result of the risk we took. After all, David's is a business which would also lose money from this pandemic. Legally they did not have to do anything for us. Yet I received a travel voucher for the full amount we paid.

I hope to report live on the adventures of Tuvalu and Em beginning next Sunday. Time will tell if I succeed. ;)

Em wants to be a mermaid.

On our way to the sea, I notice that her favorite gift store in Fantasyland has reopened.

Of course we must check it out!

Well much of the Beauty and the Beast merchandise is gone, replaced by Disney Art.

We always enjoy browsing the art, even if it is too $$ for our budget.

I really like this one. For sentimental reasons. ❤️

I like the next two also.

@Loco_driver which one is your favorite?

How about you, @sheriffwoody?

The end of the line for Little Mermaid.

It moves fast and soon we are in a clamshell.

No picture, but we do wave.

In Woody’s honor.

The exit path is super long. It winds (backwards) through Ariel’s meet and greet grotto and deposits us at what used to be the M&G entrance.

We also learn a secret along the way. Seems there are TWO photo op places for Ariel in the grotto.

Don’t tell the young’ns.

There are A LOT of people in the MK. We’re not as surprised as everyone around us seems to be. It’s Easter week ~ many school districts are out and housebound families for the past year wanna vacation.

It shouldn’t mean pandemic protocols, manners and patience go out the window. And yet....

One of the most stressful things we have found is never being sure of where an attraction line ends. Sometimes there’s a CM holding a sign, sometimes there isn’t. And it is different every time we’ve visited the parks since the reopening last summer.

What are we in line for now?

The family behind us thinks we’re in line for 7DMT.

Nope. That one wraps all around the mountain and begins near Enchanted Tales with Belle.

I give them the bad news.

Eventually we reach the attraction’s entrance.

It took a tremendous amount of self control not to buy that first country beat print last February during FARTS. The lack of a certain big bear and not having much luggage space helped make that decision a bit easier. The other print features said bear, but is not my cup of tea. I will probably need to avoid that shop though, because if my wife sees that print I’ll probably be out a few dollars!

We pop into a gift store for some breathing space.

We’re careful to avoid the janitorial artistry.

A ball cap catches Em’s eye and she buys it. You’ll likely see it in the days to come.

The Chapeau on Main Street has closed, but no worries ~ you can get custom embroidery here in Fantasy Faire.

They have them in postcard size too. Ask me how I know. ;)

We mobile order an early lunch.

A61B5B74-C3E9-49B1-9464-2FECE1576DA2.jpeg

My phone indicates my order is ready for pick up.

Only it isn’t.

Mobile ordering sometimes reminds me of Jerry Seinfeld’s, “You can take the order, you just don’t know how to hold the order” bit.

After confusion in the kitchen we get our tray of food and try to find an available table.

We luck out and grab a booth.

The best part of the meal? For the first time in three days, my Coke actually tastes like Coke!

We are ready for a break. I suggest perusing the Emporium on our way out of the park.

Not-so-hidden crane. At least work seems to be done after hours.

Em and I choose to walk through the castle to admire the murals. There are several folks also admiring the tile work. It makes my heart happy when people slow down and notice (and appreciate!) Disney details.

The Emporium isn’t crowded (yay!) Lots of cool stuff beckons to be bought but we’re not swayed. Not sure why.

While Em visits the restroom I wave to some friends.

I also notice the fire truck is parked inside the station.

You’re allowed to ring the bell at the entrance. That bell is rung at least three times before Em finds me. o_O

Some movement around the trolley barn catches my attention.

“Let’s stay here for a moment,” I say to Em.

We watch as the horse is led to....and then attached to....the trolley.

I can see Pooh’s friend Rabbit on board the trolley.

Em and I laugh at the horse’s restlessness. He’s ready to move!

It’s warmed up considerably so we opt to take the boat back. (This morning a boat ride was a big fat Nope!)

With the monorail closed, they send out the big boat. Poly guests only ~ GF guests are to wait for the smaller launch.

It’s Pool Time!

F93C8A35-B618-4D7C-A8AF-CA05ECB4DDC8.jpeg

At every resort pool there are signs telling you not to move chairs because the chairs are positioned to maintain 6 feet of distance.

Apparently the Poly doesn’t trust guests. Or knows they will disregard signage and do what they want.

Yep, ladies and gents, that is a zip tie!

We’re gonna be here awhile. No sense fighting park crowds when relaxation is right outside your room.
