Ideas for Other Refurbs

Hi! I'm new to this, so welcome to me! We (my husband and 2 kids and me) are passholders, so we pretty much live at WDW, just like most of you. I'm into the www.mousesavers.com site, and if there's a free weekend with no little league, we're off to Disney!! Anyway, I've got 2 ideas for some really cool refurbs that I can't believe they haven't figured out for themselves yet, unless one of you has heard a rumor. . .

#1. Jungle Cruise - I know it has history and should be included in that "Yesterdayland", BUT what if they just updated it, and made it a TARZAN attraction!!!

#2. Have you ever noticed how similar the subs in Atlantis look like the subs in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? I'm sure that can't be entirely coincidence. Do you think they've figured out the next step . . . . ? And wouldn't it be cool to have an Atlantis attraction since there isn't one now?

Do you think these are good ideas?

Peace Love & Mickey Mouse!

On behalf of us all, Welcome to the boards!!

Very good ideas, indeed. Seems like great minds think alike.
I'm pretty sure the Jungle Cruise was going to be changed to "George of the Jungle Cruise", an idea which fell apart (thank God). Personally I don't think Tarzan was memorable enough to have it's own ride, but that'll probably make a ton of people mad at me! Sorry Tarzan fans, no offense! :D

Good idea for the 20k lagoon, although reasons as to why the ride shut down would prohibit another "submarine" style ride there:
1. Impossibly slow loading and unloading = long lines
2. Not handicapped accessible
3. High maintenance
4. The fact that the lagoon itself seems to be structurally imperfect. From what I understand, the water is all that's holding the lagoon together (and I know all about the raging debate on this issue, I'm just offering one side of it! :D )
5. The show building in back of the lagoon is pretty much a disaster

Also, I've come to understand that the subs themselves were scrapped, so they couldn't be re-used or re-themed or anything.
Man, I wish they'd just drain and dismantle that tank and get it over with. I HATE how it's sitting there vacant...sigh

Welcome RitaB, from one newtimer to another - LOL

I was in Hollywood (being a tourist) when the Atlantis film made its debut and my first thought upon seeing its submarine for the first time was, "Disney is going to bring back 20K as an Atlantis attraction." Well, that was in 2001 and hasn't come to pass, and I don't know where Atlantis ranks on the all-time scale of popular animated Disney films, but if it isn't considered a success, we probably won't be seeing an E ticket attraction based on it. 20K was an E ticket, wasn't it?

I was an MKCP CT cast member in '85 (typo on my name - sorry) when Disney launched "Return to Oz" and promoted it with its own float in the Electric Light Parade. The film tanked and the float was yanked quicker than quick.

Jungle Cruise becomes "Search for Tarzan," hey? The scene where the apes have taken over the campsite looks to be straight out of the animated film, doesn't it? Jungle Cruise is soooo corny, but my kids rate it a "can't skip" when we go to the Magic Kingdom. I hope it doesn't get banished to Yesterdayland anytime soon!

I like your thinking on these refurbs. Keep posting!

Hello, and Welcome!

I like your idea of having Tarzan, tied in with a ride. I've never personally have liked the Jungle Cruise.

Now, about your Atlantis idea. There have been many rumors that a 'Little Mermaid' will be replacing the area, in the next few years. But that's only a rumor. Keep up the good work. Might wanna go check out our Imagineering Forums...and again..

The following comment is meant to offend no one...ARE YOU INSANE!? Lol. But seriously I think this is one of the sacred cows of WDW and should not be touched. I think it is in a league with COP and IASW(even though I hate IASW). I also enjoy the corny jokes.

P.S. Welcome to the forums!:sohappy:

POTC

I really love pirates and cop and I wish they could create rides like those ,I mean those rides are like 30 years old yet I could never grow board with them , I would even like to see a new pirates ride based on the black pearl, what if disney took the 20000 leagues lagoon and turned it into "titanic" a ride based on the exploration of the great ship.It seems like everything todayis going in the way of similators because they are cheaper to build and less expensive to operate , I think that really stinks , I would of taken an updated version of horizons any day over mission space.

#1. No, Jungle Cruise is fine as it is, maybe repaint the things, but dont change it

I'm sorry but Jungle Cruise with anything better. I don't see how it fits in with anything besides that Walt Disney oversaw it. As for POTC, I wouldn't mind an update with something from the new movie but just an overall refurb. The AA's on that ride are beyond old and look fake as anything. With all the new tech, why not?

Well thanks for the positive reaction! And hi to Lake Worth!! We've probably passed each other on the Turnpike!!

OK - I'm going to pick your brains now . . .

As Lake Worth knows, it's Math and Science Fair time. My son is doing "the use of geometric shapes in Disney architecture." Of course there's the obvious: cones and cylinders in the turrets of the castle, the sphere that is the "Epcot Ball" (as my kids call it), the trapezoid of Journey into Imagination. A little help here . . .?

He's is 4th grade and has already decided that he's going to UCF and working at Disney. He's going to get married at the Grand Floridian and honeymoon on the Disney Cruise, Eastern Carribean, for 10 days. When he was 3, he was going to work at the hotels and "give people their numbers" (check-in). Now, as an artist-in-training, he's going to be an animator OR drive the monorail. My 7-year old daughter is going to live with him forever and changes her job daily. Maybe one day they'll replace Eisner!!!

Thanks!

For more shapes...

First, journey to imagination is a pyramid.

There is the giant triangle on the Swan.
Wonders of Life is a Dome.
Test Track is a cyllinder.
Disney Quest is a basic cube.

There is much, more, but I can't think of anything else right now!:hammer:

Return to OZ was a very underrated film. I just rented it from netflix not to long ago. Maybe if they made it a musical they would do better, But it was a great film none the less.

I am still hopeing for a monsters inc. ride of somesort, and waiting patently till they reveal more rides with the muppets. I think most of the muppet rides that was worked on with jim hensen is going to be a go right after everest and sorin are completed.

I don't know how well this is going to work for someone in 4th grade - it may be a bit difficult if you can't find a good explanation in a children's book somewhere, but one thing that could be interesting is how Spaceship Earth - a sphere - is actually a bunch of triangles and octagons put together.

Try looking up Buckminster Fuller and Geodesic (both Dome and Sphere). But I would see what you can find first before setting him loose on it.

Do you all think that it may be time to refurbish Small World?

And Living Seas, did y'all think it was better when you rode through it?

So Return to Oz is still out there for rental, is it?! That is great! You should have seen its float in the Main Street Electrical Parade - that thing was HUGE! When it was pulled, the parade time was reduced by five minutes, it seemed! I know Disney wishes more people shared your opinion of the movie. I guess it is hard to follow up on a classic.

Monsters Inc would be a natural fit for Toontown, don't you think?
