not sure if anyone else mentioned this in the thread...but in an alternate universe I wonder what people's reactions would be if we had the blue sign for a long time and switched to the purple....my guess is people wouldn't like the change either.

Nostalgia is a very strong thing.

I have nostalgia for the original brown signs before the purple ones went up
Totally agree, I think people would lose their minds if it went the other way. I like how these are still a little playful without being the star of the show, helps calm everything down and perhaps is even a bit more shall I say, elegant?

Playing off of that, I wonder what the reaction would have been if WDW stuck with the brown signs for all of these years and just switched to the purple ones.

Those who have seen them, is the font easier to read than the initial ones posted? That was really the only thing that bothered me on them, the font seemed much narrower and harder to read. Other than that, it's a color on a sign.

I’ve passed them a few times and didn’t notice a difference either way.

I’m getting more on board with this, still a little playful but a little less harsh on the eyes.
Being here honestly I just haven't even noticed until was pointed out and this group reminded me.

My wife literally said oh look at those purple signs so pretty, I said babes same signs since we have been married. The blue signs no response at all. Here on day 19 I havn't noticed a single blue sign, so yeah they are blending in because I drive by them everyday. If thats what they are going for they succeeded. I only thought to look because of this thread.

Well about to watch Harmonious at the best seat in the house at Crown. My wife and I on the water , show starts in 17 minutes food so far great. Betting I don't notice a single sign on the way home after fireworks either. After a great day like today the signs dont mean much, but at least the purple was different.

Summing these two together, Disney’s wayfinding signs weren’t compliant with Florida law. Now they will be.

Don't know why this isn't sinking in. Florida forbids purple backgrounds for 'wayfinding' signs.

I wonder if the yellow on light blue meets the 70% contrast requirement.

Difficult to know without having the actual paint colors and just going off of photos, but my rough estimate for the light reflectance value of each color is 5 for the dark blue, 10-15 for the light blue, and 65-75 for the yellow. That would make it 92-93% for yellow on dark blue and 77-87% for yellow on light blue. It probably passes, but again, hard to say with limited knowledge.

I wonder if they are playing a game of legal definition loophole. That says "community wayfinding guide signs" which is a specific definition in that code:

"(2) “Community Wayfinding Guide Sign” means a directional guide sign that is part of a coordinated and continuous system of signs directing tourists and other road users to key civic, cultural, visitor, and recreational attractions, within a city or a local urbanized area."

additionally "recreational attractions" has another definition in that code:

"(16) “Recreational Attractions” means facilities located within 15 miles of the limited access facility that provide easy access for motorists, ample all-weather parking areas, and several recreational activities such as picnicking, camping, hiking, swimming, fishing or boating. Examples include public recreational facilities, state forest recreation areas, and wildlife refuges."

there is another definition for tourist attractions (which is suspiciously left out of that code):

"(20) “Tourist Attraction” means facilities that principally provide recreation, amusement, or leisure activities to the general public, with the majority of its visitors traveling over 100 miles to visit the facility, and with the major portion of their income from these non-resident visitors."

I'm thinking that wording was not an accident to allow Disney and other major tourist draws some leeway.

Read 14.51.051. These are not community wayfinding signs. Wayfinding signs are the little signs you might see in a city that point the way to City Hall or the Library. Wayfinding signs cannot even be mounted overhead or on off ramps.

If this was a big deal, they would've been taken down 20 years ago. I really loved the old ones. And, I won't notice the new ones and will likely miss my exit. Not the end of the world. But, it is chipping away at the magic. Good going, Disney!

Since we have been talking about the signs, I sometimes wish that they would use gantries like this instead of the current ones they use.

Well it technically wasn’t a rule 20 years ago.

At least theirs have always been blue!
Disney's weren't always purple either... so do we like change or not? Seriously asking.

This is a new rule that didn't exist 20 years ago.
