I think I have to cancel my trip

Well, I had a trip planned for October over fall break since it's the only time I'm available to go and our wedding APs expire in December. But DH and I just booked a Disney cruise in January for our anniversary and he's strongly encouraging me to cancel my October trip to save for the cruise (he won't flat out tell me to do it). We're DVC members and have the APs so I'll only have to pay for food and driving down, but I'm seriously considering canceling anyway. I know he feels like we're always in Florida and he's getting burned out. The biggest downside is I'll have to rent out my DVC points because they'll expire at the end of May '14. Poo. I know there's nothing you fine people can do about it, but I thought I'd share my sadness. You're welcome, I suppose...

While I'm comforted not to be the only one in our situation, I feel for all of us who wish our husbands shared our enthusiasm for something we love as much as Disney. I would love to discuss an upcoming trip a lot more often, have him a little more involved in the choices and the planning. I feel like a one-woman show up until we leave for the airport. @real mad hatter....our husbands need a major Disney dose of your enthusiasm!

Now I know Hatter is contagious for certain. I already love WDW and he gets me thinking about stuff I need to do on my next trip...and totally pumped...to get cracking with the planning.

Oh noes! You can't be cancelling WDW trips! It's against the laws of nature. A violation of the United Nations Declaration of Human rights.

Can't you really not make it a solo budget trip? You have to eat at home too, so if you don't eat fancy meals that's no extra cost either. So all you pay is some gas for driving down to WDW. (A steal with current prices of $84000 a gallon).
It would be a waste of that AP!


Maybe you can save a bit, get a budget for hubby to do something else he finds interesting, maybe a fishing trip or something with his buddies? Just to be even?

Hmmmmm. Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls. Ive read all the responses in this tricky thread..Heres my thoughts..If I had booked a Disney vacation for October followed by a Disney cruise in January. My DW would think several things.. Number one..Where is he getting the money from..Number two..Will this spoil future Disney vacations..And that's where I'll make my point.Because I stay over 3000 miles from the magic.. Our two yearly vacation has been fantastic on all five trips..Now it's my opinion only,but my theory is too much Disney can be overkill. It's like eating your favourite chocolate cake every night,eat too much and you'll get sick of it.Now everyone knows on this site how much I love Disney.I feel very lucky that Ive been to this magical land,as some of my friends only dream about it..So I ask myself,if I lived in America and stayed a lot closer,would I go more often.? Yes, I probably would,maybe once a year..So to get back to your thread..I think you are really lucky and I would opt for that Disney cruise,and while your relaxing and sipping your cocktail on deck,you can dream about your next WDW vacation..Dang.Your so lucky and I bet there people reading this wishing they had your problems..As far as Hatters therapy..I say, " Live each day with Disney in your heart."

It's a combination of the money and he's burned out on Disney for now. He told me I could go alone, but he'd prefer if I canceled it. I could see it costing about $400-$500 if I stick to QS, but he sees that as $400-$500 we could spend on the cruise in January, which I can understand.

Oh ok, gotcha. Uh, you have to eat at home anyway? Just kidding. I guess I can't understand getting burned out on Disney...those circumstances sound so perfect to me and I'm so jealous that you live in NC within a day's drive. Good idea if he's getting burned out, you don't want that

DW and I married over 20 years ago without ever having discussed WDW. I had been going pretty regularly for many years before we met but she had never visited, not even once.

Soon after we married, DW asked me out of the blue if we could go on a WDW trip together, just the two of us. I felt a little silly really; I didn't mind sharing my WDW addiction with some buddies who felt the same way but felt kind of childish to be taking my new bride to a "kid's park". Admittedly, I was nervous she'd end up thinking it was immature and I'd never go to WDW again. Now that we've had at least 3 dozen vacations there together (it's hard to keep count) I guess I shouldn't have worried so much.

Hopefully, someday your spouse will share the same passion for WDW you feel.

@vitani88 - This is a dumb question, but have you pointed out to your husband just how inexpensive the trip will be? Even in a studio you'll have a fridge, toaster, microwave......You can save a ton on food and you can transport groceries since you're driving. If his main concern really is burnout, there's nothing you can do....

I really could make it a solo budget trip, but it would cost more that way, to be honest. I wouldn't want to drive for 9 hours alone both ways so I would end up flying, which would end up costing between $200-$300 in itself. And funny you should mention a budget for him too because that's how his brain operates! "We can't afford that! But if you do that, I'm doing this, thereby doubling the amount we're spending. We can afford that!"

That would be nice, George. But honestly, food is such a big part of our vacation when we go. I could see him settling on breakfast in the room, taking lunches on one or two days, but I don't know that he would even go if we didn't get to eat at the restaurants. I wouldn't mind, but he actually tells people that I go for Disney, he goes for the food!

Sorry that you're in this predicament. That definitely sucks! Try to stay positive though. If I were in your shoes I would tell my DH that this trip was something that was important to you and something that you were really looking forward to, but because you respect him and his opinions, you are agreeing to postpone it. You two should sit down together and agree then on a date that you will go back. As well, he should agree to do something nice for you - get you pedicure or something - on the day that you would have left for your trip because you are sacrificing and the day you were supposed to leave will be tough for you.

My DH and I used to disagree on Disney all the time. I'm like a level 9 enthusiast and he's like a level 3. At first we really had issues with my obsession - and I'll admit, it can get out of hand - but after I explained to him why I'm so obsessed, he has started to understand and now meets me halfway.

If you have the resources to go, do not cancel. Life is too short (trust me on this cliche) and I refuse to allow the words 'Disney' & 'Overkill' to appear in the same sentence.

Well that stinks, I hate when have had to cancel, or as I like to view it more as postpone our trips. We have had to do it ourselves once or twice when hockey season comes around...so yeah I understand.

I am so lucky to have turned the hubs into a Disney nut. I can not imagine it now. But I feel your pain....hang in there and on a bright note, think of the amazing cruise you will be having in January!!!
