Spending the Divorce Settlement on a Trip to WDW... Priceless

:brick:

As a former child of divorce, I would think about reconsidering that line. Can bring up bad thoughts for the children, as well as feelings of resentment towards the father. Personally speaking, I hated it anytime either of my parents talked about the divorce in public, with other people, etc. Without knowing the ins and outs of anyone else's divorce, I personally do not find it terribly cute as divorce is a seriously damaging event to children. In my experience, any instance of one parent "bashing" the other or making light of the situation, made it seem as if the feelings of the parents trumped the children. It is possibly the worst feeling I have ever had.

I do like the other shirts though. Especially grandma, that one is great. Just my two cents, however. I hope everyone has a wonderful trip!

I love the shirt and I'm a product of child divorce

That's fine, just a simple difference of opinion. I am an adult so I can see some humor in it, but I meant more from a child's point of view.

Again, just a difference of opinion, I respect yours, and would hope for the same.

Oh boy, as the OP, I guess I have to respond.

Just to clarify ... my friend was the one who came up with the "Divorce Settlement" line (she's the one recently divorced). As for her children's POV, they do not understand the situation quite yet as they do not see their father much at all (as was the case during better times due to his work). While I respect your opinion, I fail to see how spending a divorce settlement is "parent bashing". She is not saying "your dad is a ... " or any such thing. She's saying she's recently divorced and rather than moping around at home, she's taking her kids on a well deserved and memory making trip to WDW :xmas:

Anyway, it's just a tee :)

“Spending the Divorce Settlement on a Trip to WDW... Priceless”
It’s a little off color but better than:
Blowing the kids college fund at WDW… Priceless

If the child asks about it, just say, "We took this trip with the money your father gave me."

And that’s my unsolicited advise.

It commemorates this trip as her first. If you make it about, “meeting Prince Charming”, “going home to be with Mickey”, or anything else generic, you would disrupt the celebration of firsts theme.

respected. I just don't want this thread to turn ugly like so many others. Not saying you would, but there are others that love to pounce

Totally agree. In hindsight, I suppose I should have just kept my opinion to myself. And as far as "parent bashing" I didn't really mean to suggest that this was an example of that, but as the OP said, the children "do not understand the situation quite yet" and because that may be the case (and the ages of the children would suggest that is true) they may misunderstand the humor behind the line. That was really my only concern, as there are certainly plenty of divorces where such a line would be more than appropriate, and while this may be one of those cases, my personal opinion is to have the feelings and thoughts of the children involved to take precedent over any resentment/anger/etc. the parents may have.

And yes, it's just a tee shirt, but it could still be hurtful.

And before I get burnt from the flames, I'll shut my mouth respectfully, and let the thread get back on topic.

Oh, and as far as your shirt is concerned,

"Enjoying WDW with Best Friends.....Priceless"

"Eating Dole Whips til you puke.....priceless"

"Over-planning our trip to WDW......priceless"

I'll try to think of more....
