Hi all! I'm home, safe and sound. :)

Went straight to Disneyland. My aunt, uncle, and little cousins were there....I had to go! :D Love them. Sat at the table next to the blind guy on last season's Idol at dinner. Coolness.

Tomorrow night is dinner at Napa Rose. Stooooked. It's my favorite restaurant evah.

Hope you all are well! Talk to you latah.

There are... too many "ah"s in this post

I went to see a documentary about Jack Kerouac at the Big Sky Doc Festival tonight. It was SO good. Incredible. I absolutely LOVED it. Kerouac was such an interesting guy, and aside from the alcoholism, I see a lot of connections between he and I, philosophy-wise.

Tomorrow is Saturday. So nice. Making bread-what-whats (that would be panqueques aka pancakes) in the morning. Then in the evening me and my roommate Kip are hosting a "local beer and cheap vodka" party. Should be... fun.

Sounds like Luke + Nicole had successful beginnings to the weekend =)

I got to sleep in my own bed, so I'm a happy camper. FINALLY have my favourite pillow back.

One downside to being home is my lack of wireless, and the home computer is in my sister's room. Guh. She'll be at school most of the week though =)

Been up for about two hours, parents have disappeared.. interesting.

I feel guilty saying this...but....:brick::brick: On the Road? Hated that book. The deep philosophical stuff never really hit me in a profound way, and I just got very, very, very tired of the story and the writing style. Dunno why.

Both my English and History teachers were disappointed in me when I admited this.:lookaroun

Oh, weekend. So wonderful. I don't have too much today, and I plan on laying in my bed, reading, chillin' on here, and listening to Iron and Wine until my friend comes over to make pancakes with me.

You feel guilty?

I think we've talked about this before. I mean, Kerouac is certainly not my favorite author, and I haven't read On the Road (I've only read The Dharma Bums), but I like what I have read. The movie was a documentary(/they called it a "book report") about his book Big Sur, which seems really profound. I want to read it badly.

Even if you can't like the books, the guy was super interesting. He became famous literally overnight and detested that fame immensely. I actually see a lot of parallels between him and I, which is weird to admit.

Have we had this talk before? I don't remember.

I've only read Road, but you are intriguing me with Dharma.

And interesting character, no doubt, I just wish his book was interesting too. Well, that book. I may be up for another try with him.
Maybe I expected to much out of him. I had just finished reading East of Eden by Steinbeck, so maybe that's what was deterring me.

Now, Steinbeck, that's both great author and great man. :D My favorite. Read all of his books...and reread my faves. :o I wish they would find a long lost manuscript of his, or something.

You... may not like Dharma Bums. I would try out Big Sur. Kerouac wrote in ten days while in a cabin in California. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

Steinbeck... I haven't read anything by him, but I really want to. His books just seem so daunting

If I'm by a bookstore today, I'll give them a run through.

No Steinbeck?! You MUST. :D Very odd style, very nuanced, but once you get into it, you are hooked. Start with Tortilla Flats and Sweet Thursday. Flats is a very strange book, but the sequel, Thursday is just hysterical. And meaningful. Love it.

If you want to tackle a big one, East of Eden. That IS my favorite book of all time. Just don't tell that to Jules Verne.:lookaroun

I've heard great things about Eden, and I've been meaning to read it for a long time. But other book just seem to get in the way

Have you read Life of Pi? That is my favorite book of all time.

Do it. :D You must.

And YES, LOVED Life of Pi.:sohappy: Such a quirky, but again, meaningful book. Part of me is still confused about it.

In fact, I WILL be at a Bookstore today. Finished Kostella's The Historian on Weds. and I need a new one.

I wish I had time to read books for pleasure anymore. I'm always reading for class. Boo.

And yeah, the end of Life of Pi is SO crazy, but that's what makes it SO incredible. That's the only book that's actually disturbed me so much that I didn't want to go to sleep at night.

Same here. :( I miss curling up with a book.

Pi never really disturbed me, it just left me with a ", is this really happening, or is he imagining this" feeling every time I read it.

Loved the first part, though. :o All the Religious Philosophy was touching.

Yeah, it mixed religion, philosophy, and animals into one book, which are like my three favorite things to think about

The part that disturbed me most was when he went blind and bumped into another boat/when he went to the floating island. What.

Yes, that was chilling. I still think he dreamed it all up. :lookaroun
Yay! FINALLY get to come on here! Crazy morning.

I don't know, but it was GREAT.

Hi Tyler!

Indeed it was.

What's NOT great right now, is the ty (Hah.) Give a Disney Day, Get a Day website. :fork::lol: I've been trying to find an opportunity to volunteer for about 2 weeks now, and no luck at all. Meanwhile, I already volunteer at a PreSchool over the summer, but they are not part of the program.:brick: Nor can I find similar one on the site. Fail. I strangely don't mind playing with little kids.

Man, that IS ty. I love this site.

There are only two places in Missoula that participate, and they're both nursing homes.
