  • The service is impecable.
  • The transportation.
  • The themes of the resorts really help me escape reality.
  • Love the pools!
  • The food is good.
  • Location, Location Location.

WDW is like being on a deserted kids only island thousands of miles away from life.

It is the only place as an adult I feel like I am transported back to my youth if only for a short time.

It doesn't matter which resort you are staying at... whether it is the All Star Music up to the Grand Floridian... every guest is treated to wonderful service and CMs that aim to please.
Like others have said, the resorts are a continuation of the parks, so you never leave the magic.

I love the opportunity to stay in the world when I can afford it. I have a 2 bedroom unit vacation property about a mile off of the Disney property. I am happy that I have the unit and I really don't see a huge burden commuting between this place and the World. There is just a little more time used up for transportation that my family doesn't mind, but we have the flexibility of bringing 8 family members or friends with us on our trips and we can cook meals.
Plus, we get around the parking fees with an AP and use that AP for discounts on dining.

Anyways... we will be staying in the world this December and are we ever excited its only 50 days away. :sohappy:

I wonder if the folks at Disney would be surprised by this thread. There are a lot of perks, like EMH, transportation, etc., but it seems the overriding theme is that people love the feeling of being removed from the "real world." Count me in that group.

I lived in Orlando for a while, and visited WDW quite a few times. I moved away, and my wife and I visited some more, but stayed off property. Finally, once we had kids, she talked me into staying at a Disney resort, even though I thought it was a waste of money. I would never go back off property now. The feeling of being in a whole different world is just the greatest, to me. The only thing that compares to it is staying at an all-inclusive resort, but even that isn't the same. Even at an all-inclusive, you feel compelled to go out and explore the area, but at WDW, you just want to take it all in.

As someone else said, it's like being transported back to childhood, and nothing interrupts that feeling for the whole trip if you're on property. I know the food will be good, the rides will work, and everything will be clean. I don't even mind the sometimes lengthy and crowded bus rides, because I don't have to think about where we're going. In short, I guess it's because I can let someone else (Disney) do the worrying, and I can just be along for the ride.

Once you have stayed on property, it is like an addiction-you just cannot stay anywhere else. Sometimes, we will go down for a long weekend and not even visit the parks, we will just enjoy the resorts and downtown Disney. The service is beyond excellent and the rooms are so clean. They don't have that usual stuffy smell that most hotels have. I travel a lot with my job and when I am on vacation, I don't want to feel like I am in just another hotel.

What everybody has said, when we stay on property, it's difficult to explain it to someone who has never done it before. Even my father-in-law, who I can tell you is the biggest PITA when it comes to arranging vacations, but the first time we brought him, it didn't take long for him to realize what we had been telling him for so long. It's like a drug or illness. Once your exposed you are hooked and or infected for life. So much eye candy, so much to stimulate every sense, even late at night they keep it going. Just wake up in the middle of the night, you see your room and how far into your life they go, and you let them! And you don't mind. You forget everything about what's outside of the world. And you still don't mind! I will always stay on site, period!! 18 days till our 3rd visit this year, staying at OKW, I am so on edge for this, I can't wait!!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

Question....

If you stay at the Swan or Dolphin or Sahdes of Green... do you think it is the same?

I personally have always considered The Swan and Dolphin to be Disney Resorts, even though they are operated by an oustide company. They share many of the same perks with Disney resorts, and they are still well within the realm of fantasy that Walt Disney World was intended to create.

I suppose the same reasoning should apply to Shades of Green, but I have never been, so I really can't say.:veryconfu

i agree with the statement below. my sister lives near disney, but, when we visit in eight days, we're going to spend two nights on-site. we want to feel, even for a couple of days, the total atmosphere. can't get it off-site.

I agree with Joshwill....

Also, to me, its part of the magic. If I had to go off property each night I think I would feel like I was going home at the end of each day and that would be a bummer. I guess I would get used to it.

Being at a Disney resort is like visiting another country. They have there own police (security), language (my sister worked at the Disney store when it was still owned by Disney and we learned some CM speak), they have their own transportation system and they have royalty (the princesses etc.) The only TV we watch is Disney TV stations while on vacation. We immerse ourselves deeply into the world.

oh man, I *love* watching those disney stations where they show the rides and stuff to do. I mean, I already know most everything about the parks but it's still so fun to watch it on the tv and get excited about doing everything!:hammer:

The location of the resort, theming, Bus transportation, and Extra Magic Hours!!!! There are many other reasons why I stay, but these are the main points.
