I need to cut straight!

So far in my scrapbooking experience, I have used a ruler and scissors to cut my photos or paper mattes for photos. Well, I am tired of them not being straight. I need some suggestions on what to use. Is there some kind of mini paper cutter or photo cutter that I can use for this? If anyone could provide links or brand names and stores to find them in I would very much appreciate it!

Oh, Shere Khan, I am right there with you! You should see the first books I started doing when I just cut free hand. It's quite humorous. Even my sil was looking at them years ago and said, You can't cut straight, can you? I don't like her very much.

Anyhow, back on topic. I use mostly creative memories tools. They have a straight edge 12x12 cutter that I use constantly, and a smaller personal trimmer that I use to cut pictures. You can certainly purchase these through a consultant. However, you can get a straight edge trimmer at Michaels or probably most craft stores much like the one I use. I also saw an ad on tv just the other day for a trimmer like that that had a backlight on it so that you could see where you were cutting, like if you wanted to cut precisely somewhere on your paper. I almost picked up the phone and bought it. Anyway, I would suggest going to a craft store and picking one up pronto, they make life so much easier.

Hahaha!
I know, you would have thought I would have gotten one by now. I have spent so much money and time on this book and it is all finished, but I am not happy with the pages. So I decided for my next scrapbook, it better be straight!!
Thanks for the link and suggestions. I need to get to the store as soon as I can.
If anyone else has suggestions, please let me know.
I am also interested in that darn expensive cricut, but it looks so complicated, LOL.

The cricut is really very easy to figure out once you realize what they are talking about in the instruction manual. It just takes a few trial and error episodes while you are playing around with it. But even with a cricut, you still really need a trimmer.

I agree that the Cricut is actually very easy to use once you try it once or twice. It's nice to know you can always create the lettering you want.

As for the trimmer, I bought the one Jenn linked to and have to say I hated it. It had a serious design flaw that involved being able to lift the arm and slide your paper under. I ended up selling it in our garage sale last month. The one I have now is very similar to this one http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=sb0513&channelid=. It does a good job. I can't imagine cutting things out by hand!

Thanks, Coree! I knew someone on here would know something about those. Since that isn't the one I use it would be hard for me to comment on it, but I meant that type of trimmer. Now we have one that we know is good. :)

Creative Memories has the best cutting tools in the market, in my opinion. The Personal Trimmer and the 12 inch trimmer are great. I also have a couple of Fiskars trimmers. I have a HUGE one that will cut through 10 sheets of cardstock that I use for mass card making. While I love that one, it is way to big to use for scrapbooking. The small Fiskars I have does not cut straight and is a little flimsy. You may pay a bit more for the Creative Memories tools, but they are the highest quality out there.

Do you have to go a creative memories party to get stuff like that?

No...they have direct ship now. Just go to their website http://www.creativememories.com/ and enter your zipcode and it will direct you to a website of a consultant near you. You can order online and have it shipped straight to you. If you dont want to chance having a pushy consultant bothering you (they aren't all pushy, but some are!), then just order from one in another state! I love my consultant....she is great and has been doing this for 15 years. Here is a link to her website:

I like creative memories personal trimmer, and the cutter bee 12x12 trimmer for bigger papers. I also love Color Workshops Perfect Layers for making borders, because even with trimmers I still can't cut straight. I tried to link you to it but it didn't work. They have them on QVC.COM.

I think I am going to go with Joanns because I get more coupons from there, but having trouble.

Thanks, sorry I am dumb!

Shere Khan - I can't tell you how upset I am after reading your post!

I came back from Florida a week ago. While we were there, we made the trek to find mouse memories, and every store I went into, I would see if they sold any scrapbooking stuff. We don't have so much choice in the UK, and the prices are way lower in the USA. Well, we went to Supertarget a few times, the one east on the 192. Do you know how I remembered how to get there? We turned just after the massive 'Joann' store. Yes we passed it 2 or 3 times, and I wondered what it was. DH doesn't like shopping, so I didn't even suggest going in to see what it was. NOW I find out it is a craft store!!! It was huge!!! I think I need to go and lie down to get over this...

:brick:   :hammer: :zipit:

The top one is the one I use.

My old Fiskars one was really flimsy and wouldn't cut straight as happymom notes, but this one seems to be pretty good.

Thanks Coree, I might try this one first since it is inexpensive, and then go to something better later on if I am not satisfied with it.

Thank you, I am certainly going to check it out. So I can order from your consultant no matter where I live? If I am going to give someone business, I might as well give it to someone I know is good!

Your not alone...:)

Lol good to know! It's just starting to bug me that all my pages look like crap because of my inability to cut correctly.

Oh no Minnie! I am so sorry! If it makes you feel better they have more fabrics and things like for sewing then they do scrapbooking. At least in store anyways. I have found better selections at Micheals and other stores for scrapbooking, but I always get great coupons from Joanns so I try to go there if I can.

And thank you to the rest of you who commented and offered suggestions.
