I miss hockey

With all the football excitement this season, I hadn't notice the NHL lockout much. But recently, it's finally started to set in for me. I miss hockey! I'm actually a much bigger hockey fan than football. I used to go by the motto "Hockey is life, everything else is just details." But now... I'm starting to forget what the heck hockey actually is! Huh? Hoc... key? What's that? It sounds vaguely familiar. I'm a diehard Pittsburgh Penguins fan but now... I'm starting to even forget the Penguins. I had to think hard today just to even remember all our players. It slipped my mind that Mark Recchi's even a Penguin! I had to pop in my old ESPN NHL Hockey game into my PS2 today just to remember what an actual hockey game is like. Sigh, oh how I miss thee ballad of grace and brutality. :(

Me too, dude. I actually watched an old Ranger/Devil playoff game from 1994 that was being shown on cable at like 3am. Ok, it WAS a good game (double overtime semi's with a winning goal by none other than Stephan Matteau...yes, THAT Stephan Matteau :lol: )

*sigh* Too bad those who bring us hockey don't seem to feel the same passion for the game that the fans do :(

I hate this lockout. But I really do feel that hockey needs a salary cap. Otherwise, poor teams like my Penguins will continue to suffer. Over the last couple years, I had to watch as my once mighty Pens had to sell off practically every single star they had cause they could no longer afford them. The Pens have a payroll of less than 20 million while the Rangers have a payroll of 80 million. For poor teams like the Penguins to survive, the NHL needs a salary cap. I just wish it didn't have to come to this.

Count me in as a hockey misser. I've always followed the NHL (though not real close like you guys in the north) just because I've always been a sports fan. Since Tampa Bay has had a team, I've followed it more closely and with them winning the championship last year, I was really into it. Now, it's gone and I do miss it.

Vince, I agree--they need a cap, as does baseball.

Yeah I know its killing me. I have to go to AHL games now and go watch the high school games here just to see hockey. Why wont they make a deal so we can watch them play....o vey....

Both sides need to do some compromising. I'm with the owners but maybe a cap at 30 million is too low. Maybe they could raise it to 40 million. As for the players, the offer to reduce their salaries by 24% was big of them, but honestly, if there isn't a cap, all the salaries will quickly return to the way they were anyway. Player salaries are insanely too high. Football is the number 1 sport in the US, hockey is a distant 4th at best. And yet, we have several players making as much money as the best NFL quarterbacks. Something is wrong with that. It's not just the big name stars either. You have guys on 3rd and 4th lines making a million bucks.

I've been missing Buffalo Sabres Hockey since September!

Now there's talk of no hockey again next year!

I better find a new sport............

The Blackhawks suck anyway....

Ive givin up on the NHL.

I can go to a Wolves game... and see a Chicago Hockey team actually WIN! AND it will cost me half as much... and I dont have to worry about driving into the ghetto and being car jacked. :lol:

I can't say I miss regular season hockey, but the past couple of years I really got into the playoffs. I was pulling BIG TIME for the Mighty Ducks 2 years ago and I even left the parks early to go back to the All Star Sports to watch game 7. And last year's playoffs were good too. Hockey is a game, for me, that I can only watch if the games are super important. I still don't understand all the rules (offsides and iceing for example), but it's still fun to watch.

Since you are from Tennessee I would have thought you would be rooting for the Preds!!! They actually had a pretty good season last year.:)

I have... I have even played hockey with those guys (the Hanson Brothers).

It was a game (where the proceeds went to a local charity) for one of the radio stations I used to work for.

Shut Up!!!! Lucky dog! My DH and I watch this movie a couple of times a year. It is a classic.

Of course I just totally stink on the ice... so... that did me no good. :lol:

The after party was fun... I am much better at drinking drinks at the bar... than I am on the ice. :slurp: :lol:
