Yeah, I am a telemarketer. Its the only job I could get for the summer while working in my small college town. Anyways thats not the exciting part. I give away magazine subscriptions to companies at this job. (its not really selling anything.) So Today I was calling hotel companies and giving them subscriptions to LODGING HOSPITALITY Magazine. And guess who shows up on my list???... Port Orleans!!!! How Exciting, and I sold it too!

Next time you get a telemarketing, BE NICE!!!

Telemarketer: Is Jerry Seinfeld home?
Jerry: No, can you leave your name and number and I'll get back to you later?......You don't like people calling you at your home? Now you know how I feel.

No offense meant to you ebay.

I WAS nice... until we put our names on the Do Not Call list and certain companies chose to bother us anyway. I thought having our names on the list would be a good indicator to these people that they weren't going to get any business from us. I guess some people just never back down. Buuuuuuut, we're down from 8-10 calls a night to 2-4, not counting the ones that show up on our caller ID from the daytime while we're at work. So most companies have honored our wishes :)

Anyway, enough with my rambling. Good luck with your job! What kinds of businesses do you call?

I put my HOME phone on the list, my CELL phone on the list (because the fools were calling it somehow) and I even put our office phone number on the list!

THEY STILL CALL! I ask them if they're selling something, and keep asking them, then when they say, "NO" and then try to sell me something i tell them they lied to me and hang up :sohappy:

Other than that i just hang up, when i'm in a bad mood. Man, I HATE telemarketers.

Telemarketing should never have been created. I feel like it's technologically advanced pan-handling.

HAHA be nice to telemarketers. OMG thats funny

PS- The government can't get anything right so you cant possibly expect them to make a list and keep track of it.

And on that day Satan will ice skate to work.

I loathe telemarketers. My number is now on the UK Telephone preferance list so I only get the occasional call from companies that are flouting the law.

Nothing personal against you, but it is an invasion of privacy .

Carity Muggers are no better.

If your number(s) are on the Do Not Call list, and you get a call from a telemarketer, file a complaint on the Do Not Call website!!

If the complaint proves to be valid (like you didn't sign up to win a new car at a casino or something like that), you can actually get MONEY!

Telemarketers would call for my wife mainly. Sometimes I would pick up the phone, they would ask for her, I would say she is deceased, and to take her off their list.

Having an unlisted number does not help. They call in numerical order: 555-0001, 555-0002.etc

Telemarketer: Hello, Is Mr. Smith there?
No. I'm a murderer. I just killed the whole family. I'm using their money to go to Disney World.
Telemarketer: Is any other member of the family there?
No. What are you deaf?
Telemarketer: Is there another time that we can call to reach them?
No!
Telemarketer: Ok, have a nice day.
...:lookaroun

Other ways to annoy a telemarketer:

When they call asking to speak to Mr *mispronounce name* say, "hold on a moment" and place the phone down. Then take bets on how long it will take before they hang up when nobody comes to the phone.

Or if you have spare time talk to them, in great detail. Make them do the whole sales pitch and waste as much of their time as possible. How you close the call is up to you, but the knowledge that you have wasted THEIR time rather than the other way around can be quite satisfying.

It's so easy to avoid telemarketers...

There is always like that five second pause that results before they come on the other line as a result to the automatic dialer.

I just hang-up before they even get a chance to speak.

We have an advanced form of caller id, called Call Intercept. If a telemarketer calls, and their system does not allow the caller id to be displayed on my caller id (or it's "unknown") a voice comes on, and asks them to enter their name (and hit the # sign, I think), THEN it special rings on my phone. IF I answer it, it says I have a call from "X" person. I can choose thee things: take the call, let it go to voicemail, or send it to a special voicemail that says "this party does not wish to receive telemarketing calls, please take their number off of your list."

It's a shame that I have to PAY for such a service, but with that service, and signing up for the national do not call list, our telemarketing calls have been reduced to ZERO. [Unless it's something you filled out, like to win a car or something, or you have done business with that company in the last 18 months]

We have that same nice system as well. When the call actually gets through to us, the caller id puts it as privacy director and when I pick up the phone I always press 3 to ignore before the machine even tells me who's calling
