I am thinking about getting one. What do you like so much about it?
Is there anything you do not like about it?
Can you use your own mp3s as ringers with it?

I am filp-flopping between the Voyager, Venus, and Chocolate.

Tell Capt. Janeway (sp?) that I prefer Capt. Picard & Capt. Kirk, over her. :lookaroun

I mean really... who wanders aimlessly around uncharted space (and whines about it incessantly) for so long. :lookaroun

The crew of Voyager fails in everything that is the Federation... and they should just go back to Starfleet Academy, n00bs. :lookaroun

Janeway to Voyager....I've landed on a friendly planet.

I agree, the first generation chocolate was horrible. I got that phone for each of my daughters. Older dd had to replace the phone twice because it physically fell apart. younger dd had to replace it 7 times because of software problems, they finally gave up and let her get a samsung. older dd can't wait until her contract expires and she can get something else.

but I hear the new version of the chocolate is much better.

as for Voyager...

it's a clamshell, with a touch screen outside (love the touch screen!) and a qwerty keyboard inside. the camera is good for up close shots but the zoom sucks and there's no flash, the video allows you to record for 30 seconds and then cuts off. but I guess it's good for text messaging.

it's got a decent web browser, I can read both the mobile edition of this site and the full edition of this site, and I can post here -- but when I tried to write a long post last night, I found the qwerty keyboard was a little quirky, and by the time I finished writing the board had logged me out.

I've got a program that pushes my AOL email to the phone, you can do yahoo and a few others as well. I've got Verizon Navigator (love a GPS in the phone!). but the software available for the phone is a bit limited. it's got a calendar, for example, but no way to back up the data. it's got standard Verizon contacts, no room for information such as a street address or data about the contact other than phone number and e-mail.

Verizon VCast. the phone is capable of hosting music and videos and accessing mobile TV. you can purchase the music and videos over the air or on line. it's cheaper to do it on line. the phone comes with a disc for the software and a USB cord. I found it difficult to install the Vcast music manager onto my computer, but now that it's there it's easy to use. a little different from itunes (I have a nano, too), but once you see what's what, it's OK. it reads all my .wma and .mp3 files already on the computer and transfers them to the phone. I haven't tried to create a ringtone form my own files though. sound quality is good.

it's got expandable memory. I have a 1 GB memory card, you can get up to 8GB.

it's bluetooth capable.

and, oh, yeah, it makes and receives phone calls.

I need a new phone since my LG VX8600 is having power issues. I am eligible to upgrade, and was thinking about the voyager. If I don't get a data plan for the internet, do you think it is worth getting? Verizon really doesn't have any great phones now, but waiting might be hard since my phones battery drains way too quickly and I don't like having to travel around with a charger.

I don't really see the point of getting this phone without an internet plan. mobile web comes with the phone and youll find yourself using it without a plan, and that can get pricey. but if you're planning to use VCAST, the internet plan is included in the monthly VCast cost.

I know the data plan is about $45 a month and that gives you unlimited web browsing. What does VCAST cost, and is that unlimited browsing too?

fyi verizon owns me body and soul. I have voyager, my kids have phones and I have a pc card for the laptop. you dont want my bill.

i actually got a "thanks for being such a good customer" letter from them.

if $15 gets you unlimited browsing...then what makes it different from a $45 data plan

The data plans are for PDAs and Smartphones.
I was going o get a Motorola Q, but it requires a data plan, or they charge you $.10 per kb to your phone.
It was explained to me that the data package is required to check your email through your phone, and surf the net. It is also said to be high speed.

I think $45/mo for a data plan on a mobile phone is rather high. I do not pay that much for high speed internet at home.

i am not very technical but I think voyager works on a different system than the Pda's. I had to get a national access plan.
