I just got home from the local pound. Their having a pet adoption today. I saved 3 young female cats. If you go on the following link, you can see them.

http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/jefferson.html

They are Victoria, Nikki and Chelsea. I will be calling Victoria Tori for short. I already have 3 cats and a dog. My husband thinks I'm crazy.:hammer: I am a strong advocate of pet adoption. If these cats were not adopted, they would be euthenized. (sp?) If you have a municipal pound or shelter near you, please think of adopting an animal whether it's a dog or a cat in order to save it's life.

Good for you, Pam. I have always loved cats but have terrible allergies. I tried my best to ignore them when I was younger and had several cats but finally had to give them up when I had kids. My daughter has inherieted my allergies! We were lucky that my in-laws took my cats so we didn't have to send them to a shelter. I think it's great that you saved those little darlings. Congrats!:sohappy:

Good for you!

I work with one of our local shelters- I go in a few times a month and clean up/play with the kitties. We're free-roam no-kill which means unfortunately we have to turn many away. You did a great thing.

When do we get to see pictures? :D

I will hopefully have pics of everybody today. (old and new) I am going to try to go to the meeting next weekend for the shelter volunteers. I really want to volunteer, but I have to see if I can balance it with everything else I have going on at the moment.

Thank you for all of the congrats. I wish everyone could adopt just one animal. It's so senseless for a perfectly healthy animal to be put down.:( It upsets me to see them in cages. I usually cry when I go there. I told all of the women who were there today volunteering that if I was a volunteer, I would have all of the cats out running around free. They did have some of them out while we were there. I came home with two and my eldest who did not go with us, saw them and wanted one also, so back we went! I also donated a large sum of money to the shelter to help cover medical costs for the animals.

If you go to the link that I posted above and click on the animal list, you can see 2 of them on there. Nikki is one of the 3 left abandoned in a box at the shelter on there.

I am highly alergic to kitties and cant have a dog in the apt.... however last Sept I found in the parking garge after work 3 small kittens and it took 6 of us to get em round up. the two girls had home immediately and the boy well I brought him home just till I could find him a home..... well he's still here and I named him Wicket (Im a Star Wars junkie too) and he's the most adorable thing (most of the time)

I'll see if I can get a pic of him on here...

I have 5 cats at present (one died last fall) but have never adopted one; they find me! ;) We live close to a park, and many people dump unwanted cats there, most of whom (the cats...not the people) seem to end up on my doorstep. (Except for one kitten that was purposely left on my doorstep)

Oh Wicket is so cute. I remember him from the movie with the little girl. ( I can't remember the name of the movie though) Please try to put a pic up, I would love to see him. I don't know when I will be able to get pics of my new ones on here. 2 of them are still very skittish and want to hide.

My daughters cat dies from Luekemia. (not feline, but cancer) last fall and I promised her a new cat. We ended up saving three.:D I had an elderly Aunt who lived on a deserted road and people used to do the same to her. She ended up with 20 cats and all her money it seemed went to feed these animals that she loved so dearly. It really makes me mad when people get animals(puppies and kittens) and they either grow up (the animal) or the person grows bored of them and they either dump them or euthenize them. My mother has been a breeder of cats for a long time.(persians) But she hasn't bred them in the last 5 years because she had too many instances where people would either tire of the cat or some pathetic excuse and give the cat back. ( she had all of her clients sign a waiver that if for any reason they did not want the cat they were to contact her and return it) She actually had a call from a vet once who recognized her cat and called her friend who is also a breeder and told her that these people that my mother sold the cat to came in and wanted it put to sleep! My mother was so Mad! She called them and told them what she thought of them and that was the last time she bred her cats.

If you saw some running loose, is it possible that they release the others after closing time? We have a few we put into cages when we are open because we want them to be seen, but that is only for a few hours. Other than that they are all free (unless we have a brand-new addition who needs to get used to the sights and smells).

beautiful cats, Pam! i can't tell you how happy i am that they found a good home...or should i say, a good home found them! :sohappy: we adopted our eldest cat back in '94 from a shelter...but that's been the only animal we've ever gotten from a shelter, i believe. my next to eldest was given to us by my papaw, and my youngest was born to a stray where my dad works. the poor thing was near death when my dad's best friend found her...he took her to the vet and they helped her. thank God my dad's friend is a huge animal lover...he had a dog for the longest time and would always take it to Disney World with him...but his dog came to a tragic end. a bone got caught in it's throat and my dad's friend tried to get it out, but it was too late...not only did his dog perish, but the dog's jaws were biting down so hard, that it broke his thumb. anyway...got off track...sorry! dad's friend was trying to find a good home for the cat and he couldn't keep it himself, so we took it in for a while....needless to say, i instantly became attached. the day came where dad's friend found a home but i just couldn't part with her...so she's still here and though i hate to play favorites, i must say i favor her above the other two...we just seem to connect better, i suppose.
congrats, Pam! may your new additions (as well as your older furry friends) have a full, healthy life!

The newest addition to my family found me at the local K-mart - she strolled in thru the automatic door!

Her name is Buffy and she is wonderful! I'm so happy that she found her way into my home ...and heart! :)

That's wonderful Cymbal! I bet you never expected to go home with a warm and fuzzy new friend that day!

Castlecake, my cats were already named by the pound and I'm afraid to change them since the older ones probably had names from their original owners also. I think that would confuse them all the more. I would definately name them after disney characters. I have a cat named Tinker already(short for tinkerbell) Well I found out that she was a he and Oh Well... He kept the name.

There was a lady in the Disney mag. who adopted 2 cats and named them Lilo and Stitch, part of her 'Ohana'

:king:

That's cute! We had 2 at our shelter by those names. Both have found homes (and might I add that Stitch was very appropriately named).

I didn't get the DVD, but my Buffy is absolutely priceless! :sohappy:
