So, I went back to Disneyland today. Before I left, I looked on another site to see if there would be soft openings today....a person reported that it would be dark (meaning no soft openings). Well, once we got there I decided to swing by just in case. I was met with a huge line! Of course I didn't hesitate to jump in line. We were told it would only be an hour wait, which it was. I was so excited getting in!! I don't remember how old I was when it closed, but I do remember going on it. The things I most remembered was staring at the wall with the star fish, the bubbles, and the mermaids and silly monster. Before I start, I had read earlier that some of the effects weren't working. Some (like the angler fish) were not working today. :(

**spoilers up ahead**

So we climb down the spiral staircase to a very blue sub. We sat down in the little seat and stared at the same star fish wall. Once we started moving, the mass of bubbles came and we were underway! The first thing I saw was Darla and some scared fish. We were then met with a diver, giant clams, and a large fish. The mass of bubbles came again and we were in Nemo's world. Nemo and friends were projections like in Epcot. We went past eels, jelly fish, a shipwreck grave yard, an erupting volcano, surfed the eac, and went into a whale.

It was a cute ride, I really enjoyed it! I felt like a little kid again. My face was pressed up against the port hole the whole time. All the kids around me sat there with their eyes wide open, speechless. The effects were done nicely, I can't wait to see all of them working (especially the angler fish!). Having been on the one in Epcot, I enjoyed this one better because of the fact that we were in subs underwater. The only thing that is better in Epcot is the fact that the projections are swimming with real fish.

Oh! And at the end there's a rock formation in the shaped of the sea serpent's head, complete with the tongue! You have to look hard, but it's there!

edit: here's a link to a pic of the sea serpent! http://micechat.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1834520&postcount=185

I have a few pics coming up...

Were there many AA's or tangible models in the ride, or was it mostly projections?

Was the plot the same as the Epcot version or were there alot of variations?

Also, did it seem like they re-used alot of scenery from the original submarine voyage? (I never rode it but I've seen the whole ride through video, plus it was almost identicle to 20k at MK which I rode dozens of times) I know there was an underwater volcano in the original version.

Thanks for the report! I can't wait to ride it when I go to DL!

I remember seeing a number of how many AA's there are in the ride, but I can't find it. There's about 60 on each side. You see quite a few in the begining part. Only the main characters are projections. All the extra fish and eels are AA's.

Honestly, I can't remember much about the plot at Epcot. I think it's pretty much the same once you enter the caves. You see the jelly fish, mines, Bruce, angler fish, etc.

They reused the whole outside lagoon, they just added new coral, sea weed, and some new AA's. They reused the same dock and star fish wall. I'm not so sure about the rest. Again, I was little when I went on it and remember a few things.

You're welcome! Hope you enjoy it!

It was too dark inside the caves to take any pics.

Enjoy! :)

edit: they won't show up again! Why?!?

Darn, I just missed them. I left yesterday and was hoping the entire trip for a surprise soft opening. Unfortunately there was nothing but AP and CM previews. Glad to hear that it seems to be a good attraction.

Very nicely done. I was pleased with the new Nemo ride in Epcot and this one looks nice as well. I don't know when I'll be out to Disneyland to ride it, though. :(

I happened upon this article on USA Today's Web-Site and thought I would share. I did not see it posted yet.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Walt Disney Co. Monday launched a "Finding Nemo" submarine ride with underwater animation at its Disneyland park, in an effort to use its Pixar film division to bolster theme park admissions.

Rasulo said Disney intends "to continue to fill out the entertainment in that park .... You can definitely look for further expansion and additional entertainment there."

I was met with a huge line!

I read that Disneyland plans to expand the line past Matterhorn, near It's a Small World for the expected 5-6 hr. wait time during peak crowd seasons!

That must be brutal in the summer heat. Isn't most, if not all the line for the Sub ride outside?

The whole line is outside. The last bit (which you're in for about the last 10 minutes) is in the shade. Everyone was so happy to get to that point.

The line snakes it's way back and forth in front of the lagoon, and goes past the Matterhorn down towards IASW.

Brutal indeed.

edit: Yesterday Disney added some umbrellas along the line for more shade. Here's a link to some pics of that and of the line: http://micechat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67662

Here's one of the line all the way at IASW: http://micechat.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1841889&postcount=150

Pure maddness!

The only advice I can give about the line is get there first thing when it opens. Less heat, less crowds, less maddness.

Wow! Those are some long lines! I guess that will be the first thing we will try to do when we get there!

did they end up using 'Big Blue World' during the finale of the ride? I know in an early press release, they said they would use it, but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.

No, thankfully. Instead they used some elevator music to a song that escapes my mind at the moment. It's kind of random, but fits the ride better than 'Big Blue World.'

Ah, ok then. I watched a video of the beginning of the ride and it sounds like the title song 'Nemo Egg' from the movie album on repeat. I was hoping for Big Blue World to come in, but nope. Back when then song was being created, they said it would be used for the Seas, The Musical, and The Subs, but I guess not.

Elevator music? Sounds weird...

Found the song! It's 'Beyond the Sea.' Go to 5:57 and you can hear it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjW_QoPbbMU

It is weird. I was like "ok....." when it first came on. But it does fit in better than 'Big Blue World' because at the end of the ride, you've come out of Nemo's world and back into reality. The cute little song wouldn't really work in a submarine tour.

actually the song fits perfectly, it's the song that plays at the beginning of nemo's end credits.

i got a chance to go on it on the 9th. very cool
