Would I need to have fastpass + to book a pastie 5 months in advance?Well having a Greggs would certainly add to Disneys portfolio of fine dining establishments.

So what is the latest on replacing Pleasure Island? Does anyone know what is next after Splitsville opens and the new Rainforest cafe is complete in DTD?
I am guessing nothing. I think they will continue with these small "additions" and re-dos, but nothing to tackle Pleasure Island, or even Downtown Disney, as a whole. TDO has WAY to much to take care of right now. Every theme park needs massive work right now - and given that they keep raising ticket prices - I think that should be a top priority. And since we aren't even hearing exciting plans for the parks - I would guess DtD is even further down on the list - and will be neglected for another few years. This really would be a pretty amazing case study on procrastination, neglect, and an inflated corporate structure...

It will be a bold new vision. So what is the latest on replacing Pleasure Island? Does anyone know what is next after Splitsville opens and the new Rainforest cafe is complete in DTD?
I was just thinking one thing that made PI so successful in the early years was its exclusivity. Has it ever been mentioned ....open up a WDW type Club 33....exclusive to resort guest only. You could have one or two other venues but keep something like this available as a on-site guest perk
You do realize Club 33 is a bit more exclusive than "resort guests."
Also, they tried something not all together dissimilar with Top of the World. I think by any measure the experiment failed--I know several employees who left because they couldn't make any money there for the lack of customers. Last I heard, any DVC member can get up there now in an attempt to drum up some business.
What made PI successful in the beginning was being a high quality adult destination (perhaps not "theme park" in the traditional sense, but close) with a healthy mix of live music, live comedy, dancing and fun. If WDW opened up something similar tomorrow, with that same level of quality, it would again be a money-making machine with off-the-charts guest satisfaction.
And I totally forgot about Top of the World. Maybe because I have never been there.
@Lee said earlier in the thread that an announcement would happen after the new year ... of course that could be anytime between January and December but the tone suggests first part of the year ...
... maybe they are working on something and have managed to keep it silenced from us.
It's sad that the topic of PI doesn't even register with the members here anymore. There is such a sense of apathy towards this area. We have a ghost town in the middle of Downtown Disney for 4 years, and it barely is a blip on the radar anymore.
I agree. If there is any plan at all, I think it is to continue to let PI limp along for the time being. Once the high emotions and hope is gone, they can become saviors by announcing the "New, Reimagined Pleasure Island". Fans will be so happy to have ANYTHING there at that point - and Disney can capitalize on what they do best - Bring back something they never should have taken away in the first place, and play on guest's nostalgia.
That does seem to be the most likely outcome. For years we have been told that they are working on something that is going to blow us away. Yet no progress gets made. Now the fan community is lacking the energy to even be upset by this anymore. And who can blame them? It is exhausting, WDW is a product on the decline, what's one more problem stacked onto the others?
It's one of those things, exclusivity sounds good in surveys (who doesn't want to think they are a VIP?), but at the end of the day the hard-core Disney fanbois who buy DVC aren't really "enjoy a $12 martini in an upscale lounge" kind of people, by and large. A couple of PI veteran bartenders used their seniority to get up there only to have nights with maybe a dozen guests. At the same time, if this was something convention-goers could get to easily, I'm sure it would be a money machine. It's all about knowing your audience--the failure to know the WDW customer base is what killed PI. It had nothing to do with making the area family-friendly, the suits really thought they could turn PI into the next Sand Lake Road. Which was crazy.
I actually like Top of the World... but maybe I like it because it's usually so empty it's practically a private lounge.
