Disney has been and will continue to take their sweet time on this "project" because the tourists are keeping the cash registers ringing overall at DTD.

True, but tens of thousands of dollars of revenue departs Disney property every night for other locales, much of it to their major competitor.

I agree. Even some of the cynical people on here probably would admit that as a business, Disney wants DD to be even more successful. I'm sure they know they can keep more money on property with a decent expansion/addition.

The new version of the PI "plan" has a different name.
Haven't heard for sure, but the word "Springs" may be involved in the new name.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting some sarcasm here, but a life-size Radiator Springs may not be such a bad thing. Not much in the way of adult entertainment, but at least visually interesting and lots of opportunity for themed dining and shops. The present similarity to the pre-Lightning McQueen town is already pretty eerie.

If this is for real, it won't leave much for Hollywood Studios beyond RSR, which throws that expansion out the window. It almost seems like TDO is planning themselves into a state of paralysis.

The "Springs" name, which may or may not be used at DTD/PI, is entirely unrelated to Cars.

Last I heard, an announcement would come after the new year.

This is kind of a shame, actually. The name was the one thing about the project I thought actually worked (well, other than the fact the fake island in no way resembles a wharf). Had an obscure old school Disney connection, rolled off the tongue after a couple times--had hoped they would use it somewhere.

"Springs" is just idiotic.

But you don't know what goes in front of "Springs"! By that approach, you would have written off "Wharf"!

I bet they focus group tested "Hyperion Wharf" and people didn't "get it". It's too fancy and aristocratic sounding to them...and "wharf" does not instantly communicate a fun experience to people. Makes them think it's an industrial zone instead of an entertainment district. Never forget that a lot of people out there are very low-information when it comes to this stuff and there are also a lot of foreigners who come to WDW who have trouble with English. They need a name that communicates to people like this that the area is a place for fun activities, not a loading dock or industrial port.

Watch them name it something like "Celebration Springs" or "Entertainment Springs" or something like that. So that even the most low-information person out there can understand that this is a fun place to go to with food and things to drink and a good time to be had.

No, there's nothing they could put in front of "Springs" that would work for that area. "Springs" implies a natural outdoor setting, generally in the west. No way to theme anything in the middle of DTD to that level.

Yes, because appealing to the lowest common denominator is always the hallmark of a premium product.
