Hurricane Irma

Looks like they have him in a holding pattern.

Yes, wonderful national healthcare like an ambulance not even called to an emergency until a guy on a motorcycle comes first to see if you really need an ambulance. And then the ambulance won't take you to the hospital until the emergency room gives them clearance to bring you in.
Which country are you speaking of? Never experienced that in Canada.

I'm going to post this last comment and then move on. My power just came back on so it's time to clean out the fridge and restock, put the hurricane supplies away, and clean up my property, now that the rain has stopped and the sun is out.

Irma is still causing misery. People in South Florida are just starting to see what they've lost. The military is just getting to the Keys to see if there are any Florida Keys left. We don't know what the death toll in the Keys will be, both human and other animals. Several members are very worried about loved ones and friends. Most of us are worried about our own The Mom - she lives in the Jax area that was flooded. My niece, who also lives in Jax, has not posted an update since yesterday afternoon - we just hope it's because she has no power and her phone died. My brother is ready to jump into his truck and drive 3 hours to rescue her. I got my first good night's sleep last night, in spite of having no power, in days. This is what we in Florida have been going through for the past days as the storm headed our way. So, yeah, @BoarderPhreak, your comment about betting on next year's season was not appropriate right now and a tad insensitive considering what some of us on this thread have just gone through - and the season isn't even over. And before you lecture ME about climate change, I will let you know I spent 10 years working at DEP and 23 years working at FSU with some of the preeminent climate scientists in this country.

Too soon, dude, too soon.

Peace out
So glad to hear you got your power back. It is amazing how much better you will feel after a nice hot shower and a good nights rest. Those little things we don't appreciate as much as we should until we lose them... Good luck with your recovery efforts!

My neighbor has a whole house generator so we were able to shower there during Sandy's aftermath but as soon as my water was heated I hopped in my own and took a very long shower, nothing like having your own again:inlove:

Canadian here, and I've never experienced that either. I have, however, experienced ER wait times from 5-9 hours-I waited 6 hours once with excruciating kidney stone pain sitting in those hard ER chairs.
That is one drawback, somewhat longer wait times, higher taxes but if critical you get queued up petty fast.

Who lives in Florida and doesn't have buried lines and doesn't get a generator with 2 weeks notice a hurricane might hit? FPL is not to blame for that.

If you read the post- they have a generator. Guess what though? You need gas to run a generator.

FPL should not take 2 weeks. They have had 12 Years to prepare for this and correct their previous faults.

Real branches or painted-plastic branches?

Not sure. They were cleaning up rivers of light seating earlier. It's definitely not perfect but it's in good shape all things considering.

I'm not lecturing anyone. And don't be so dismissive and righteous. I lived through Hurricane Sandy.

Any word on if Stormalong Bay is open yet? If it is closed any word on when it might reopen?
I just scrolled through Twitter. I don't see anything saying it ISN'T open?? I assume if it was closed we would have heard about it?? The fact that no one is commenting on Twitter about a closure or taking pictures of disrepair or something makes me think they got it cleaned up. But, again, nothing official. Just my logic.

England. (London in particular)
Some guy jaywalked in front of a bus. And because they don't have Good Samaritan laws like we do here the guy lay in the street with nobody helping him until the motorcycle paramedic arrived.

Obviously you understand nothing about major storm restoration work. Even with thousands of out of state utility crews brought in you can't get six million people back on in just a day or two. It doesn't matter if you have a hundred years to prepare, you can't rebuild an electrical system that took years to build rebuilt overnight. I know. I am retired now but served on several storm teams over the years working 18 hours a day to get the lights back on.
