I can't wait for the pictures to come out tomorrow from the parks that do open. Disney will make it seem like there was no hurricane at all.
Very optimistic, indeed.
From GOAA (Greater Orlando Aviation Authority)
"As of 8:30 a.m. 11 September 2017
Orlando International Airport (MCO) is NOT operational.
Please notify your viewers/ listeners/ readers that they SHOULD NOT COME TO THE AIRPORT until we notify the media that the airport is resuming operations. Continued gusty winds are delaying damage assessment teams from beginning the recovery process."
Spokesperson tells us an opening today is not exactly impossible, but really unlikely.
Glad to hear most are ok. Praying your KW friends have something to go home to.
I took the original pics and both gates were closed as well as the entrance swing gates by ticket check. After I took all the pics I walked back to the contemporary, made it across the street then realized I took no video. When else would I have that opportunity, right?Interesting that the gate under the tunnel is wide open. Although I'm sure there is security there somewhere and would be happy to issue a lifetime ban if you tried to go in
You have no idea how tempted I was."My MagicBand wouldn't work, but the gate was open, so..."
I, for one, was SO hoping he casually strolled thru that open gate and got a peek of Main Street... I know I would have been tempted!

Uprooted trees are pretty much goners. Once the roots are exposed, the damage is done - the roots start dying. You are more likely to have success with smaller trees, but it takes a lot of care. Larger trees aren't going to make it.A question to any horticultural experts out there-if a tree is uprooted, is there any chance of propping it back up and having it root again, or is it a goner as soon as the roots are snapped and the tree falls? Some of the trees we are seeing in the pics posted here look like a few roots are still in the ground; it would be a shame if all of the uprooted trees will be gone.
The area of destruction is so wide spread throughout the Caribbean I hope other countries will step up to the plate and help out. Between Harvey and Irma I think (IMO) the US is stretched to the max as far as giving aid. The pictures of the islands look like a war zone and I can't imagine what those people are going through.
So when do you think resort guests will start getting ancy? Sunday was acceptable but I can imagine by this afternoon people will start getting stir crazy. There is only so much of a hotel room one can take.
Idk. Being from Chicago I have experienced 50 degrees below zero, winds, blizzard, and snow covered where you have to shovel to get out the door. And guess what? We still have to go to work lol.
Not to say hurricanes are any less easy. But the way things are done down here are different. In Chicago, life goes on. This was my first hurricane though but i think being from Chicago makes me strong.
Please let us know how it is/any posted closures, etc. Thank you!!I plan to be at magic Kingdom.
An anchor on CNBC just claimed that MCO (Orlando International Airport) is called that because it stands for Mickey and Company. I'm not sure what she's smoking, but it was MCO long before the mouse came into town, thanks to McCoy's Air Force Base...
Chi-town pride all the way...When we get a snow storm with 2 feet of snow and it's -20 out.....This is nothing....
I think the eyesore on I-4 also dodged bullet. Too bad.
