If you have friends or family who evacuated from Monroe County-

It is closed until further notice. To residents and to tourists.

@bclane , Have you heard from your friends yet?

Glad to hear that he is well, property can be replaced but lives can't.

Reports right now saying places like Tampa bay are emptying out and moving into the gulf. Let's hope everyone has evacuated to higher grounds when water surges back
Many thanks for your and others concerns. Homes can be replaced but lives can not. To all the people of Florida and especially those who are in Ft. Meyers, Tampa, and points north right now, keep safe. We will all be thinking about you.

It is indeed a bunch of CPers working 14-16 hr shifts for double their usual pay.

I’m seeing a split here at Boardwalk. It’s not all CPers.

I didn't say it was ONLY CPers.

Very very few CPers are here that I've run into. In fact, I haven't even met one- maybe behind the scenes, but certainly not many front of line. That's actually been a question I've been asking the ones that seem young "are you in the CP?" Out of the dozens I've talked to they are all full timers. Heck- the wait staff has been here years and years. My waiter today has been at the cali grill for 18 years and the chef is there as well. My waitress at the wave has been there for 5 years. And the managers... oh the managers- they're freakin on TOP of it. Working their tails off.

It's a 72 hr shift and they all seem to really enjoy that they are here.

Couldn't help but hear that in Peter Pan's voice...
More optimistic than Heath Ledger's Joker, I suppose.
Water is actually starting to run out in the southern Atlanta, GA area. Current forecast for the area is a good amount of rain and wind tomorrow into early Tuesday morning, but nothing close to what Florida has seen/is seeing. The nearby Kroger had plenty of water in gallons and cases yesterday afternoon, and by noon today all that was gone. Eesh.

What is with the recent mania of people buying bottled water in the face of the storms?
Do people not own pots and pans and a working sink? Heck, I probably have enough various gladware bins in my little apartment to hold 100 gallons or more.

To all you Florida folks good luck. I have been glued to the tv all day. As anyone heard anything about the Keys? No of the major new stations have said anything other then the county is shut down.

Ugh, now it looks like what's left of the eye is going to move almost due north - very close to where we live... in about 4-5 hours. Whoopee!

Coming from the Midwest the night tornados are what always worry me. But we also typically have an idea where they might show up. This storm seems like they could come from anywhere

Pretty much anywhere on the northeast side could get one, even a couple hundred miles from the center. That's what strikes me as extra scary. You know exactly where the hurricane is. The tornados can pop up anywhere, any time.

Generally speaking local meteorologists are more knowledgeable during these type of events. I haven't turned on TWC once during this event, I trust Tom Terry and Co over the celebrity weather folks on TWC
I'm a little north of you in Gainesville & been glued to the weather reports. One of my friends is now convinced that Michael Bay is in charge of the Weather Channel with the reports from the last few days. We get the Orlando Fox channel here & they seem to be fairly calm and accurate. The aweather Channel on the other hand seems to be disappointed when the weather slacks up a bit.

This is what I did. Every available plastic Tupperware container I have is currently being used as water storage. I also used my tea pitcher, some milk jugs, mason jars, anything I had laying around the house. I even sanitized an old cooler and filled her up too. Lots of useful resources around the house most people forget about.
I always fill the giant Jacuzzi in my master bathroom. The only time it ever gets used is when a hurricane is coming.

May I ask why might tornadoes worry you more than ones in the daylight? Is it simply the lack of natural light, etc? Just curious. Hope you don't mind me asking.

We're staying at one of the new Marriott's in Flamingo Crossings (near Western Way of WDW). Winds definitely picking up now. A little scary. Guests are relatively calm. Marriott has done a few things to help guests. Not nearly as above and beyond as CM at Disney resorts. But, I'm not expecting that. It's ok. Although it looks like they eased their pet policy (was pet friendly to begin with) to include all types of dogs, including large breed. Nice to see pets around. They do have coloring materials available for kids in the lobby/food area. Also, families are playing ping pong. It's nice to see various families playing board games. Saw an older gentleman teaching some young children how to play checkers. Other families playing chess, dominoes, cards. No extra food available besides small food shop for candy/chips/etc. Marriott only gave everyone a general overview notice a couple days ago. No paper/message updates since then. But, there is a lot of staff walking around talking to guests. We also have officers from Orange County Sheriff here. They are staying safe instead of sitting in their vehicles which is great. Electricity will likely go out soon as the lights keep blinking. There is a generator here for emergency services. Wife and I are safe with plenty of provisions. Lots of Tornado watches in our area.

Sending Prayers out to everyone affected.

They're all too busy chasing the storm. And probably don't like to admit that they were too scared to be in the heat of it. Not that I blame them, but there was hurricane chasers down there that they had interviewed last night.
Not sure if communications are still down?
