Hurricane Irma

Left Swolphin at 2p via taxi to MCO.

Driver said getting gas in Orlando wasn't too much of a problem. Traffic wasn't bad.

MCO was a mess, but, it's always a mess. Lots of people taking up customer service time with their various issues, so, add an extra half hour to check-in / luggage drop off.

Lots of dogs uncrated.. Not happy about that. I understand people fleeing with pets, but loose dogs in a crowded, new environment is a recipe for disaster. One lady in line mentioned she'll try to sneak her lap dog out of its container during the flight. If I see her on my flight, I'm alerting the stewards.

TSA is a disaster, but always is at MCO. Luckily, had a random pre-check on our boarding pass, so, after locating the hidden pre-check line (the signage is maddening), got through in two minutes.

Now waiting four hours for flight, which is on time. Lots of people in terminals waiting for delayed flights or waiting for standby.

None of those storms ravaged through the entire state, ripping straight through the middle.

And Irma's absolute worst effects, as it stands right now, looks like will be confined to the Keys and the mostly unpopulated Everglades/Big Cypress. In fact, if it comes in on the southwest corner of the state near where state route 9336 ends, there's a pretty decent chance no population center sees winds anywhere near cat 5 status.

I know you keep saying that, but it isn't true.
Florida has not seen "countless Cat 4s". And the 2 Cat 5s that actually did hit- they both ended in devastations and many lives lost.

Okay, replace countless with "more than a few". People keep saying this is the worst storm EVAR... and well, it just isn't. It looks like it will be comparable to Charlie. A disaster, yes, but hardly unprecedented.

We, too, have misplaced our letter in the past, so don't feel bad ;). For that one they just printed a new one at reception.

Ah... reception... should have gone there rather than the luggage desk.

Do they still use the letters? Or do they just scan your magic bands? (I cannot remember for the life of me)

We still had one at AoA in May. It would be glorious if they replaced them with Magic Bands.

I don't think many locals over a 15 or 20 minute drive will be heading over there lol.

That's my thought too. We're about 30 minutes away and as much as I'd love a good distraction and empty parks, I want to save the gas in our car and not clog up the roads when it's not necessary. My husband just looked at me like I was crazy for even considering it, lol!

People need to be listening to their local channels anyway. They are the ones that know their climate, and are giving off valuable information that is appropriate and helpful for viewers. The WESH team has been fantastic on facebook live.

Preparing for the worst is the wise course. Dismissing such preparation and calling it hyperbole is foolishness.

Don't know why you keeping giving such bad advice in this thread.
Any reason we can't prepare/evacuate/plan AND refrain from exaggeration? This is not an either/or. BTW, I was born in Naples. Not clueless.

Moving along...Does anyone know how Disney would best secure rides like IASW, PP, and Pooh? The loads for these rides while covered are essentially open without any sort of shutters or doors. Same can be said about the Pirates gift shop and TL Terrace?

Just curious.

The toll roads weren't that bad.

I believe IASW could be shuttered in events like these. I always thought it weird how it was situated and now it kinda makes sense.

I don't think there would be anything catastrophic if queue for Pooh took a hit, they could still run the ride.

Help me... my brain is failing PP??
