I think right now it's headed for Bermuda. I don't see a threat to the US at this point but I'm just a travel agent not a meteorologist.

There's more than the US... The islands are in the cone for the second time. It's looking so bad that the help that is finally arriving has to leave again. They're not even dropping food at the moment because it's just gonna fly away.

Sept 8th - "Wind forecast suggests 60-80mph sustained winds, with guests to 95mph. Rainfall is expected to be 8-12 inches, with locally higher amounts. The window for the worst weather will be Sunday afternoon until Monday afternoon."

Man, those guests are really speedy. No way we are that fast.

She's slowing down slightly, too.

Edit: forgot a word.

2:00 PM EDT Fri Sep 8
Location: 22.0°N 76.0°W
Moving: W at 14 mph
Min pressure: 925 mb
Max sustained: 155 mph

ETA: she was at 16mph 6 hours ago.
Please don't downplay this storm. People need to be prepared for the worst.

Just because it's not 185 mph anymore doesn't mean this isn't a monster storm. This will be the most brutal storm the state of Florida has ever seen.

So just talked to the concierge at CBR. Was told that if our flight gets canceled we have to call Disney and make new reservations nothing they can help us with... she told me that if we get to the airport and the flight can not go then we should call Disney and tell them the situation and they should be able to get us a room somewhere... I get that once I'm at the airport I'm someone else problem but if my flight is canceled and I'm still at Disney I don't understand why they will not let me just extend our reservation or attempt to accommodate us instead of just pushing us off to the call center.

Also this is on the tv now.

I'm not downplaying anything. I was referring to the forward motion of the hurricane as a whole. Slower is worse in this case.

After seeking secondary sources, all I see is Turkey point shutting down not terminating power. Turkey Point will drop control rods, disconnect from grid, and coast to a stop with remaining steam and finally diesel generators to power cooling water.

hopefully they don't manual override the scram....ok I kid I kid bad joke.

Eh, Andrew was a cat 5, Charley had winds of 145 or 150 at landfall. Labor Day 1938 was a cat 5. Florida has been struck by countless cat 4s. The hyperbole is getting out of control.

Right now the forecast falls for the storm to landfall on a very unpopulated part of Florida at about the same intensity that Charley did, and then move up the peninsula in a somewhat similar fashion that Charley did. I would expect Irma to be the same strength or maybe a touch weaker as it moves over Orlando as compared to Charley.

Yes, there have been specific model runs that depict an absolute disaster for Miami and the state, but the fact is, it doesn't look *quite* as bad as it did a day or two ago. If it shifts back to the east 30 or 40 miles, then it gets worse again. If it shifts further west, it could be bad news for Tampa while the east coast of the state is spared.

Please be careful with this because they made it extremely difficult for me to get back on the ME after my flight was cancelled in December.
I had an early morning flight and had booked a nonrefundable night at an airport hotel, planning to take a late ME to the airport the night before. Then my flight was cancelled, but I still had to sleep at the airport. The staff at ASSp couldn't find my luggage and the ME was there to pick me up. I asked if I could come back the next day with the ME to pick it up, so the bus would not have to wait. They said yes but then they wouldn't let me on the bus back to ASSp at MCO because I was no longer a resort guest. If you don't have your reservation number at the airport they will not let you on and they will not book a hotel for you.

None of those storms ravaged through the entire state, ripping straight through the middle.

Probably a controlled shutdown as a scram is hard on reactor systems just reduce power output to 0 over 36-48 hours
