I don’t expect mass evacuations of the the entire state, but definitely some local ones. There will be challenges, but nothing anyone can’t overcome if you are prepared. I have full confidence in local EMAs and FDEM to make the right decisions for the public.
Just make sure to stay informed by NHC as well as your local emergency management officials. Sign up for your counties emergency communications system and follow thier social media pages. #knowyourzone

I'm here now. Still clear for me to do Epcot today. I moved AK from Wed. to tomorrow. I made a throwaway reservation for MK on Wed because of Ian. Keeping HS for Thurs. I'll hole up in my resort as needed. I checkout Sat. Hope I can drive home. However, I have a split stay with checkout from first resort. Wed. I wonder if driving back to Tallahassee that day is a good option or better off staying in my resort at WDW until it blows through.

I mean, yeah. Florida is massive, it would be both impossible and unnecessary to evacuate the entire state.

I hope that's the case. I've almost decided to hole up at WDW. I moved AK up from Wed. To Tues. Was going to have a repeat day at Ep. Fri. But I have HS scheduled for Thurs and may move that to Fri instead.

Has anyone been to WDW right after a hurricane? We are still holding strong on our trip down on Sunday… sounds like parks will be open but I’m wondering about things like groceries and rental cars.
I’m praying for all you Floridians, we have family down there and I know hurricanes are nothing to mess around with.

Grocery Stores are nuts around here. The Walmart Pickup on Satureday for the one on North Old Lake Wilson, south west of All Stars was booked up till Friday due to the storm. I should be heading out to Target near Margaritaville later and can post here photos if there is anything to note.

Disney (Orlando) is pretty far inland. I have been during and after several storms. Trees are a definite impact and Fort Wilderness has had to close all or parts of the resort for weeks at a time. The parks have shown little to no lasting effect. Due to staffing some resorts in the past went to box lunches but I have not seen any impact after to groceries or rental cars. When a storm hits South Florida it does sometimes have an impact on Orlando with everyone headed North but that does not look like it will be the case this time. Most likely the heaviest impact will be before the storm with everyone making preparations and stocking up on groceries and fuel.

We went for the day a few days after Irma back in 2017. The parks were open but the crowds were lighter. Since we are in St. Petersburg, I don’t know what the grocery or rental car situation was like.

Forecasted 90mph winds Friday morning in the Orlando area. There will be catastrophic tree damage, not to mention property damage.
Yes after Charley that made landfall in the Tampa area and barrel led up I-4 to wreck parts of Kissimmee and Orlando. Parks were closed for a few days post Charley before reopening. I suggest make a reservation now for a rental to secure a vehicle.

I rode out Frances (2004 post Charlie) hurricane at Disney World. We went to Epcot next day as all plane flights were cancelled and we couldn't go back to NY for another 24 hours.
The parks were empty. But Frances wasn't that bad of a hurricane. It was a long tropical storm / rain event.

Thank you! We have the rental car already booked, I’m just thinking they won’t have the type/size of car we have booked, heaven knows that even without severe weather, Hertz manages to screw up our rental cars 80% of the time! I’m going to press go on my Garden Grocer order, not life changing if we don’t get it.
We have the car because our plan is to drive down to Naples to visit family after our time in Disney, I guess time will tell on what kind of mess that could be next week.

I rented with Budget at MCO. It was cheaper but I knew why. The cars are located at the far end of the parking garage past the other rental companies. Small price to pay to walk a bit to save money.
