If that’s one thing my friends in New Orleans will do and have done in the past is have hurricane parties instead of evacuating.
With this type of track, what would the Orlando area expect to see for winds and severe weather given its the dirty side of the storm?
My prior experiences living on The TX gulf coast didnt involve glancing blows.
Im queuing up this afternoon for the Figment Hurricane popcorn bucket.

Orlando will see a lot of rain, forecast currently shows a couple inches. For the average person, it'll feel like we're having a couple back to back days of thunderstorms.
If the current track holds, things should operate pretty normally around the city, but it's wise to keep an eye out for tornadoes, which rarely touch down, but can greatly stir the air causing down limbs and flying objects.
Affluent Winter Park and parts of downtown Orlando have huge oak trees that wrecked havoc on homes and streets during Charley 2004 , a number of streets and main roads underwater , power out for weeks. The dirty side - my friends experienced is when insurance teams give dollar figures on what the insurance payout will be on wrecked homes then the contractors do a 360. Contractors had double the price of fixing one’s home if they want it fixed post hurricane. Price gouging 101.

You joke, but the first thing we did after curfew was lifted after Matthew was drive to the Polynesian to buy the first Hitchhiking Ghost mug. We were not alone.
Question for all you pros...flying in to Orlando tomorrow morning with a flight home on Friday evening. What are the chances flights will be able to depart as I have to work on Sunday and need to be home. I don't mind a wet and stormy trip but is it worth it or should I just cancel? Thanks

Flying from NJ to Orlando this Wed during the hurricane ? Could be delayed even cancelled. Safe travels to you.
Locals do the opposite. After buying up canned food and bottle water to last for days, some lined up for several hours at the local McDonalds , post hurricane.

I think it was Irma, that came up the border between Orange and Lake counties. My Dad lives really close to there, and had tons of rain and wind, but surprisingly never lost power. Lots of foliage debris but no other damage. There were areas in Lake county that did suffer flooding and were without power for multiple days because of fallen trees. However it was not like what you hear about impacts in the coastal communities. Googling indicates that by the time Irma reached Lake county winds were 65-75 mph.

There are a lot of unknowns: hurricane strength and where it will make landfall but you should be good to fly out on Friday. Again, nothing is guaranteed.

I know I’m just praying that this thing switches… even if I cancel today I’m still looking to lose about 800 and something dollars because of a room for Wednesday and then they’re not so scary Halloween party tickets and then a $200 deposit

I think they refund those for a hurricane though. Definitely try for a refund
