HUGE price increase for stroller rentals

That's not a bad price to me. I don't intend to buy a "big" stroller, this would be THE stroller I'd use at all times, WDW or home.

We had a "big" stroller for the previous kids, and after I realized how little I really needed it and what a giant pain in the hiney it was, I don't think I am going to deal with that again. I want something I can pop together and into the back of the car within a minute or so

You are so much like me! I had the huge travel system, full sized stroller and later realized what a pain in the a$$ it was. I loved the Triumph; it was so easy to throw in the car, light, not bulky, etc. Our double is actually a Twin Triumph. The other good thing with Maclarens is the weight limit is 55 lbs, so it can be used for quite a while. I'm hoping my kids can use ours until they are old enough to walk around the parks.

Ok, thread hijack over! Sorry!

Maybe to help pay for new ones and repairs to old ones that have to be made sooner than before because of the strollers being used to cart big kids instead of the under 4 generation like they used to be used in the past? Is there an increase in wheel chair rentals, too? When my friend and I go she needs the motorized one because she can't walk without her cane. If she tries walking in the parks she gets knocked off her feet sometimes.

I look forward to seeing all school age kids(who aren't handicapped of course) walking instead of riding in strollers. It is about time parents let kids grow up and walk if they can. My guys would have been embarrassed to death to be in a stroller past 4 in the parks. We adjusted our pace to their speed. We rested when they needed to rest, and probably saw more things through their eyes because we weren't pushing them to the next ride at the speed of light My theory has always been at work you rush to finish projects on time, but when on vacation you take the time to enjoy. What you see this trip does not have to be everything offered. Enjoy what you do do and don't worry about what you don't get to see or do. JMHO

ECVs are now going to be $45 with a $20 deposit, instead of $35 with a $5 deposit. Not quite as shocking as the double strollers, but still significant.

No change for regular old wheelchairs.

But hopefully fewer will. There were not nearly as many strollers in the parks in prior years - people were just getting them because they were convenient.

And what is wrong with conveniencing your guests? And don't start whining about how they were getting in your way.

Listen, childless ones, I've seen this from both sides. I take solo trips once a year, and go with the fam once every couple. I've never been bothered by other peoples strollers on my solo trips. I do know, however, how much of a huge help the stroller rental program was for families with multiple kids.

The WDW strollers are a godsend. They are way easier to maneuver and push than just about any commercial model I've ever used. Extremely light, brakes that work. And not having to tote them in and out of the park is great too.

You have to take alot of stuff to the park when it's a family. Try to understand. Say you have 3 kids with you, 1 in diapers. That requires a very large backpack of supplies someone (me) has to trudge around with all day in the 90+ heat. If that double stroller can be used by 1 or 2 kids for resting at a time and storing the weight of the supplies in a unit that is light and easy to push - c'mon, no brainer.

And yes, there's nothing wrong with a 7 or 8 year old riding for times during the day in the stroller. And it has nothing to do with childhood obesity, laziness, kids these days, blah, blah, blah. Remember, even 10 year olds have to take 3 or 4 steps for every adults 2.

So if you're happy about this change, yay it's your lucky day. Spare me the "these annoying families are getting what they deserve" crap though, please.

I have to say, this price raise is a real blow to me and other families. This rates about a 8 out of 10 on my dissapointment scale - SSE video screens rate about a 1.

I whole-heartedly agree with you...A Disney vacation wipes out most adults, why wouldn't it tire a 6 or 7 year old? The price increase is huge, but I'd pay it for a happy child (and therefore happier Mommy!) and more pleasant vacation!

wow! That's one hell of an increase

How much do you think each of those strollers costs Disney? 25 bucks?

Thank you! I know I roll my eyes at seeing older elementary children in strollers anywhere. But, we're about to take a 10 month old and a just turned 5 year old. My 5 year old is in great shape, and we are planning a slow paced trip, but I am almost certain that by the end of the trip, we're going to need to get a stroller for the 5 yr old. That doesn't mean he'll be in it all the time, it's just if that's what we need to do to get through that last day, then so be it. It's not for my own convenience, it's to keep my 45" tall child happy with his 5'7" mom and 6'3" dad and our large strides. Notice I said at the end, not the whole time.

I do think people are way too judgmental about children in strollers, and actually, strollers in general. I know that some people like to use them as battering rams (see prior thread), but geeze, it's Disney, there are kids there, so there will be strollers.

But back on point, it is a big increase, but my understanding is that there hasn't been an increase in 3 years. We didn't rent a stroller last time b/c of the cost, as it was cheaper and more convenient for us since we were flying to buy a used stroller at a consignment sale anyway.

Of course, the baby will be in a stroller the whole time, but one of my own.

Yeah that seems to be a bit high. This is something that should be offered on the cheap just to keep them off Disney Transportation.

But you'll still have the same people on these boards who complain about their ouchy shins saying that you're holding up the parking tram for them too.

Amen to that!!!:sohappy: I however bring strollers for my two kids so the price increase doesn't affect me but I feel for the parents who rent those strollers - that is quite the price increase! And yes, I will be bringing a stroller for my just turned 5 year old (and no he's not obese - quite skinny actually, nor is he lazy, etc...)! Children NEED strollers in WDW (even "older" children) - it's a fact, deal with it!!!

As for those of you who have been abused by strollers in the past, well, I can only speak for myself here but I have NEVER used my stroller to ram someone out of the way. But I have hit people with my stroller by accident. I cannot tell you how many times someone has pushed past me when I'm pushing a stroller. Let me tell you, people don't mind cutting in front of you if you're pushing a stroller. And then I'm the one that says sorry when I hit them yet they jumped out in front of me! So, it's not always our fault!!!

we are getting there on the 5th, if this is the case, wonder if I got a multiday rental if I will luck out and get it at the cheaper rate and beat this price increase. This is a must rental for my 3 year old.

It makes me laugh (in a bad way) when people cheer for the misfortune of others. I'd say that most people with strollers are considerate of others. It's not the strollers that are the problem -- it's the inconsiderate people pushing them.

Hey, lets charge $1000 for a wheelchair while we're at it ... that'll keep those darn handicapped miscreants away! *sigh*

Ridiculous. Back on topic though, that's a huge increase in price.

But they didn't seem to need them 10-20 years ago...I've been going to the parks my whole life and I've noticed a major increase in stroller use the past several years.

As parent of a 4-year-old, let me offer some perspective on the "Too old to need a stroller" stuff. My son is capable of walking around the parks -- we go on hikes of about 1.5 miles from time to time, and he's slow, but he makes it. But I still use a stroller when I go to WDW, and it's one of the very few places I do. I do it for two reasons.

1. Four year-olds wander, and my son is particularly susceptible to being distracted and veering off course, in part due to some developmental differences (hyperlexia). We have to watch him closely at a mall or in similar settings, as well as at Disney when he's walking. The stroller gives us a way to make it easier to make sure he doesn't wander off.

2. You know those screaming kids in the late afternoon at MK. Some of that is because they're hot and missed their naps. But my son doesn't take a nap anymore. If he's screaming at the end of the day, it's because he's overstimulated and/or tired from all the walking. If I use a stroller, he doesn't walk as much, and therefore isn't so tired from the walking. Plus, the stroller is a safe place for him to hide from the stimulation and calm down. Sure, there are plenty of places in WDW to do that, but the stroller is a constant -- it always looks and feels the same, whether we're in Tomorrowland, on Main Street, or in Adventureland.

Flame me if you want, but I'll still likely be using a stroller for my son for about the next 6-12 months at amusement parks.

Regarding the price increase, I do think it's insane, and $15 bucks a day is an incredible amout to charge to rent a stroller that likely doesn't cost more than $40 bucks for Disney to buy in the first place. That said, it's a profit center like everything else, and Disney has the right to charge what they want, and patrons have the right to adjust their behavior accordingly.

Stroller Price Increase......so that's where the parking fee is being hidden!

I am so glad our kids have moved out of that need! The last trip was our first attempt at no strollers! My girls were 7 and 10. It was very nice to use thou. It enabled us to stay longer in the park by not being exhausted from the walking and enjoy it more without any complaining, etc. This past trip was great in that we could just go and not worry about parking the stroller and then going and finding it later when the CM's reorganized the lot.

It is awfully high thou!
