With a trip to Disney. So, I've been watching the boards for months. Hoping to do a 10 day Disney trip in June when the kids get out of school. We have 8 year old triplet girls and finally got the "green light" to take them to Disney summer 2012. This will be part of their Christmas gift this year and we really want to surprise them. So I'm asking for your ideas on how to go about this. Thanks in advance for your input.

I've always liked the classic gift-wrapped mouse ears. That said, I personally wouldn't use a trip 6 months out as a Christmas gift for 8 year olds. Seems a ways off. 6 months was an eternity to me at age 8, but that's just my opinion. Not passing judgment in any way.

Disney also usually offers a way for Mickey to call your house on Christmas morning. Not sure how you hook that up.

Yeah, we've considered giving this at Christmas or not, but it's not like it's all they get, so we went ahead with the opportunity to surprise them with this Christmas morning, along with the other gifts they get. Last year they dealt with the anticipation of a summer cruise with a lot of excitement for the first half of the year, so I'm sure they will do very well with this.

So, I like this idea of Mickey calling on Christmas morning. Anybody know how to do this?

Last year we sent the kids out to take up the trash (14 and 11), once up there we went to the side of the house and put up signs that read: "When you wish upon a star", "makes no difference who you are", etc spaced out over the bottom of the driveway. They had to follow them and my wife and I were there with the last one telling them they were leaving for disney that night. Great video. Better memory.

Wow! I wish my parent's were that creative.

My mom did this for me and it was REALLY good. Instead of Christmas, use Easter to give them a shorter time to stay excited. We have 3 children, so my mom hid 3 golden eggs along with the rest. Every child gets a golden egg and they all contain puzzle pieces (get a cheapo, easy Easter puzzle from the Dollar Store). Beforehand, she wrote "We're going to DISNEY!" on the puzzle and after we completed it together, we could read the message! :D

Have a friend or neighbor dress in all black & wear a ski mask. In the middle of the night, have the friend/neighbor bust into kid's room screaming and waving a (fake ) pistol.

After yelling, waving his arms, etc for about half a minute, have him ask kids:
"Are you scared? I SAID ARE YOU SCARED???"

When kids nod yes..have him pull off ski mask and put on a pair of mouse ears and say: "Well not as scared as you're gonna be on Tower of Terror...'cause you're going to Disney World!!"

Parents proceed to enter room after this, one filming kid's reaction, the other throwing a few pieces of colored confetti into the air.

Every Christmas after dinner one of my relatives dresses up like Santa and comes in the front door with a bag full of the presents he got for everybody. The plan this year is start with the kids gifts, then hand out the bottles of liquor that are the gifts for the adults ("What did Santa bring you this year?" "A bottle of Kettle One vodka."), and then in the end Santa is going to pull out a present that is supposed to be for everyone. That will be some Disney memento that he will hand to the kids and announces that everyone gets to go to Disney World. We then all act surprised.

And the children will never ride Tower of Terror ever again.

Just an Idea...

To surprise your 3 girls, wrap one large box in Disney paper. Next, have smaller gifts that will be 'hints' as to what their last gift will be, on each small gifts write up a clue that directs them to the next. When they begin they each get 1 small HINT gift, and the first hint that would lead them on a scavenger hunt. Try to make they small gifts really hard to figure out! so the fun can continue until the very end! The final gift could be a huge refrigerator box filled with helium balloons in bright DISNEY colors and a large sign in an envelope that tells them they are going to Walt Disney World! Also, the small gifts can be letters that will spell out WALT DISNEY WORLD and then have them open the big box together!

Hope you figure it out! PLEASE let us know of what you are going to do! It could be used by someone else who is wondering the same thing!

:xmas: Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!:xmas:

Wow - that Tower of Terror idea made me giggle, but please don't use that one!

I like the idea of wrapping something - a disney book, etc. to tell them.

Also, maybe clues? Or a scavenger hunt type thing? Like a Mickey notebook (Dollar store style) that has a note to look for a package under the tree - that has another note to go check their rooms (for????? new luggage??? - just thinking here) and another note that leads them to the computer (or another package, etc.) that shows the dates of their trip? Just some ideas.

Hope it is a great surprise and an even better trip!!!

Disney Surprises!

Keep it a secret for as long as you can -- the payoff will be worth the stress...case in point:

Almost ten years ago, my wife and I decided to surprise our kids with a trip to Disney. We had planned it for 6 months, right down to the last detail. Thankfully, we only live 40 minutes from the parks, so my youngest (3 yrs old at the time) and I were dropped off at Pop Century early in the day to set up the tree and decorate our room. The two older kids (5 and 10) were in school on that last day before winter break. They also had tickets to a play that night after school.

After the play ended, my wife "took them out for ice cream". When she passed our usual ice cream place, they started getting suspicious. As they drove along Interstate 4 towards Orlando, they began asking questions. As they pulled onto Disney property, my wife mentioned going to Downtown Disney for ice cream to quell their suspicions. As they pulled into Pop Century, they started getting excited.

When they stepped into our decorated hotel room, my youngest and I shouted "Merry Christmas!" and we all got tears in our eyes. The excitement and emotion of the moment was almost too much, the room was filled with warmth and love. We surprised all of the kids with seasonal passes, and for the next four days we had one of the most amazing Christmas trips ever.

Well the secret of exactly WHEN was kept in every regard....waking up on a school day and telling them get dressed were leaving for Disney was always awesome......one time we left late afternoon and held youngest home all day, oldest unaware til he walked in door from school....it was funny because youngest assumed older sibling was hiding in home and refused to believe me...even with proof of tickets for airfare!!! They liked the surprise of not knowing when....This is the first year we actually told them when....teenagers seem to prefer that method....:animwink:

We are surprising our kids this Christmas as well, but we are leaving 5 days later on the 30th. Still don't know how we are going to tell them. I think they are too young (3 and 6) for a scavenger hunt but we do have some special Disney gifts for the trip that we will give them. We have been keeping it a secret since April! Man, was that hard to do but I think it will be worth it.

We're filling a box with some Disney things - Autograph books, a scrapbook, some coloring books, the DVD we got in the mail, etc and a Mickey Balloon (That's filled with helium so it will fly out when they open the box.)
