Pre-Trip How to celebrate a proper 20/40 in just 18 months...

Hello again…It seems only fitting that we invite you all along again since you were there for the first five surf n turf adventures. This time should be slightly more epic. I’ve been going back and forth about even doing a TR for this trip. After a few of these things you can start getting burned out and wonder if there is even value in it. I ebb and flow on it depending on the day and have even been putting this off for a while. I think I’ll go back to a traditional TR(not live) and see how that goes. Let us get some business out of the way first for those not in the know.

What: The 20/40 Surf n Turf trip of funtivities to celebrate things and stuff

When: May 3-13

Where: A Caribbean Fantasy sammy on Poly bread!

Why: Well, we’re kind of killing two birds with this endeavor. This year we each hit an individual milestone as well as a shared milestone, I’ll let you Nancy Drew that. Let’s just say one of us hits one milestone before the other by a few months and I may like to brag about it at times ;):D

We are just 11 days out and still have a ton of packing to do, if you followed our April trip this should be no surprise. So far we have received more Christmas garland links as well as our cruise documentation.

ONE…..DAY….LEFT!!!

So close! We have a small amount of packing left tonight. I had a legitimate dream/nightmare last night that we were at the airport and forgot our booze! Talk about scary. Anyhow, so the plan…yes the plan. Here is a Cliff's Notes version:

May 3:

Fly down to the bubble after work and chill at the Poly.

May 4:

Probably head over to EC in the AM/ early afternoon to pick up the second AP magnet for Spring and maybe bump into some Rocky Top WDWMagic members( this could change to a pool meet up but that’s still up in the air). Next, head over to AK for a late afternoon of FPS. We will probably close the day out with some pool time and ‘Ohana delivered to the room.

May 5:

We will probably rope drop MK for a few hours with a possible second meetup with some Volunteer friends. We will be back at the Poly around noon to catch our chariot to Port Canaveral for our Fantasy. Only plans for the boat on this day is the DVC M&G and the Beer exchange

May 6:

Day at sea. I envision a lot of pool and castaway cocktail this day. I’m fairly sure we will catch this evenings show and depending on the trivia rotation we may be defending our 80’s music trivia title.

May 7:

Day at sea. Same recipe as yesterday I’d imagine. Might mix in a run around the boat in the morning to justify the ridiculous amount of eating we will be doing.

May 8:

St. Maarteen. We have a Rhino Rider & Snorkeling excursion today that will probably take from 9-1:00. Might look around the island before we have to be back on board at 6:00. Its pirate night tonight which means Palo! We’ve got zero interest in the pirate mess outside of the fireworks so Palo is a nice escape.

May 9:

St. Thomas. We’ve got a kayak, hike, and snorkel excursion on this day that is scheduled from 9:15-1:45. On board is at 4:00 so we will probably look around the island after the excursion. Regular dining rotation tonight and probably a show.

May 10:

Day at Sea. We’ve got a bourbon tasting scheduled today. Other than the tasting I see a lot of relaxing at the pool.

May 11:

Castaway Cay! Still debating on the 5k but I know for sure we will be at Serenity Bay most all the day. Another WDWMagic friend recommended a special mixology class they have for 7-night cruises at one of the beach bars and if its offered we could probably be pulled away from SB for some mojito action.

May 12:

Back to Cape Carnaveral. We will ride our DCL chariot back to the Poly for one night and some MK FPs

May 13:

Head home….boo!

That is why I'm a bad mom and take my kids out of school to cruise ;)
I took my kids out in the first week(5 school days missed, in a 10 day trip, almost every year middle school and high school, not senior year) They always did work while we were there, made up anything needed and had good grades. The teachers probably thought I was a bad mom, but I don’t think I was. ;) Now that they are grown, I am so glad I, and they had the experiences and memories. Good Mom, I say! ;)

And touchdown! We had a fantastic flight that included a head attendant that has to moonlight as a jungle cruise skipper. He was hilarious the whole flight. As we descended we got to see the HEA fireworks. Additionally, it was a birthday for a crew member so all the lights went out, we turned on our flight attendants lights, sang happy birthday, then turned off the flight attendant lights as he “blew” them out. Here is me with the birthday boy and his crown.

We actually grabbed a Mickey selfie this go around.

We had a very short wait to pick up our luggage but had to haul across the airport to get on DME, not a big deal but i got us turned around once. Disney is pushing Pandora so hard at the airport that they now include a FOP queue simulation experience while you wait for DME!!!

We’re on the bus now with about half a dozen Poly guests and about 3 dozen PORS folks that got added to our bus as a overflow relief.

Wishing you the BEST time! Can’t wait to hear about it!
Thanks so much and thanks for the advice!

First and hopefully last item lost on this trip...my tervis water bottle. I left it at the airport.

Bummer. Hate losing stuff, but thank goodness it wasn't anything expensive. I recall years ago reading an article by a well-traveled journalist. His advice: never take anything with you on a trip that you absolutely can't live without, if you lost it. I take that literally--even a wedding ring. When I travel, I wear a cheapo ring I bought at Kohls--it looks authentic, but I only paid 6 bucks for it! :hilarious:
