How much does it cost to put on Wishes?

Thanks, Boo. I knew you'd be along at some point to set us straight.
As a theater tech (amateur), I like to try and find the tech locations for the various shows and venues in the parks, especially for the not-so-obvious places. (Has anyone ever noticed the tech booth in Cosmic Ray's, for example?)

I can`t believe I missed this discussion!

The booth in Cosmic Rays is kind of neat - you remember when the hydraulic stage was used for bands? Kind of an east coast version of the famous Anahiem Tland rising stage? There`s the booth! Odyssey has a similar setup.

Actually, the rising stage is still used once in a while. They'll use it as a performance location during after-hours parties or for Magic Music Days performances (usually singing groups). I keep wanting to catch one just so I can see it go up and down, but I keep missing them.
Sonny Eclipse even has an intro/exit speech for when he leaves/returns (I've got them as MP3s somewhere on my computer)

Right around the time Wishes first came out, my Grandma and I were driving home and stopped to get gas at the Hess station (on property) and we ran into a guy that helped with Wishes....he told us how much it cost but it was so long ago that I forget but I remember it was a crazy number.....I expected it to be a lot of money but not as much as he said....

You jogged my memory.... isn`t Sonny on the upper level of the lift, and his stage rises into the ceiling area to reveal the `band` stage underneath?

That is correct...when I was a freshman in High School we got to perform at Cosmic Rays...one of the coolest experiences in my life, and it was so strange being on that lift when we popped up and when we exited.

I'm confused: Sunny Eclipse shoots the fireworks for $6 million a year from the Hess Station? Wow.

Actually, I hear that some of the fireworks are loaded by off-duty municipal firefighters during the day. I saw this on one of the Disney shows on Travel channel or History channel. It makes me wonder how they do 2 shows of Illuminations in one night, like on New Years Eve.

Also, it would be fun to figure out how much each of the park visitors contributes to the price of the nightly shows by dividing the cost of the shows by the number of visitors. These numbers are probably incorrect, but if 15,000 people visit Magic Kingdom each day, and the show costs $30,000, that would mean we each pay $2 for the show. Does anybody have these numbers? And how much does Sunny Eclipse make from it after taxes?

Go to the stage in CR and look behind you - it`s up in the ceiling above the seating area.

You did read the whole thread didn`t you.... Wishes main tech is the north east gazebo in the hub, with a secondary one at the north launch site. The hub booth has quite a view. Apparently.

I had a great video taken from the gazebo. It showed one of the techs monitoring the roof top pyro on a screen (if I remember correctly). He was radioing to someone the status of the bunkers.
Unfortunately, the video was lost in cyberspace :(

They re-load out on the water. That must be some task and I applaud the crew.

Not quite the ceiling. If you're standing on the upper level facing the stage, it's to your right in the back corner of the room. There's a door in the wall, and two glass windows that normally have curtains drawn across them.

I thought I read that they can load the majority of two complete shows for RoE at the same time. There'd only be a limited number of shells that would have to be re-loaded for the second show.
Ones that come to mind are the seawall launchers, the water-level starbursts in Chaos (because of where they're placed) and the air-launch shells.

And going back to Wishes, I'm sure it's been discussed before, but I just stumbled across video of Wishes at Disneyland Paris. WHat the hell did they do to Wishes?!?!?! Apart from the lasers and projections on the castle, which are insanely cool, the pyro is almost nothing like the Magic Kingdom's. It's like they had to have everything be rooftop launchers with no high-altitude pyro. (EDIT: Just read that there are regulations now banning high-altitude fireworks at the park) And there's parts where the pyro is going crazy, where in Florida it's a quiet lull in the show. Plus, they cut three and a half minutes out of the show. (The end of the first section, the entire "love" section, and Jiminy singing the start of "When You Wish".)

Apart from the lasers and projections (when are THEY coming to Florida??? ;) ) it's kind of a let-down.

Am I confusing it with the lighting / followspot balcony? Only so much ceiling gazing you can do when a Disney burger and fries are awaiting!

Hmm. Well, a tech told me that they have to clean out the tubes and re-load the barges.

I never noticed that there was a followspot balcony. I actually never looked up there (which is odd for me). I didn't think there was enough room for anything but some hanging positions with no ctwalk access. But there may be more room up there than I'm remembering.

As for the stage itself, I did some searching and came across a few school bands playing Cosmic Rays that include the raising and lowering of the stage (you can see the tech operating the lift controls in the first video)

Well, I've seen both shows and yes you are right in saying that the Paris one is very dull, fireworks speaking. But remember that they have that law, not letting them use large shells during all the year at Disneyland Park. So they do what they can so people have a some fireworks. Here is a video of the show last year:

And Wishes is no longer showed there. Wishes came to Paris in 2005 for the Happiest Celebration on Earth and had its last run in 2007. Nowadays, they have the Enchanted Fireworks during summer nights to replace wishes.
